peace out Rachunek

So maybe it's true Karel Rachunek has been recently sidelined by a neck injury he sustained last week at practice.

It's probably only a coincidence that the defenseman has been a scratch since Lou Lamoriello learned that impending-free-agent Rachunek already signed a contract to play in Russia next season for Dynamo, as a well-placed source informed Slap Shots.

There's no transfer agreement, and I think even if there was, there's nothing wrong with this.

Couldn't see that coming a mile away. Honestly, if there was another league going right now that wanted to offer him a contract, he could sign and leave without cleaning out his locker.

He came here to try and get another NHL contract. Since he can't crack our lineup, you could figure out that he was going back to Europe. Why stay here for no reason?

I am with you on this. He did some good things for us. I was hoping he would get more playing time.

I'm not a big fan of his but most of the time he played better than I had expected. With the team in an offensive slump I'm surprised he didn't get more ice time once the injuries started happening. Don't mind him being off the books next year though.. not worth the money right now when they actually have room to sign a better player in the offseason.

With Lou's mob boss aura around him, I wonder if that neck injury was for betraying the family

Completely agree. He was one of the only defenseman providing offense for us. He actually had some pretty nice goals. I can remember a shorthander vs buffalo, and a couple where he crept down from the point and put it in. I was hoping for a Salvador-Rachunek pairing in the playoffs.

I have that pairing in 2K8, and for what it's worth it's my best pairing.

Hey, this is Jersey and Lou is Italian. Isn't it obvious?
I wonder if the noose broke? :biglaugh:

I was hoping Rachunek would get more of a shot, too. Still, I didn't see him in our plans for next season. The Devs were hoping to get a little offense out of him to replace the offense they lost in Rafalski. But Rachunek has limitations. Who knows, we could still see a Rachunek - Salvador pairing in the playoffs at some point. A lot depends on Andy Greene and how healthy Salvador is.

LIke everyone else, I hope to see a Rachunek-Salvador pairing in the playoffs. I guess it's shady if he already signed to a Russian team for next year, but really, if he gives the Devils the best chance to win in the playoffs, they should play him.

I think Brent Sutter will do whatever he has to win. I don't think he gives a damn. If he has to bench Elias to win, he will do it. He knows what he is doing. Have a little faith, there's magic in the night... ;) Now what Springsteen song is that from? :D

I feel like it's a bit disrespectful that he would do that now, in such an important time in the season, but oh well. Now we know what he was doing in the press box while he was sitting for all those games.

Shame, he looked good at times. But also was terrible at others (due to bad partners??).

The western swing recently, with the Salvador - Rachunek pairing was probably the best he played all season. Knowing Lou, Karel wont play another game in Devils red if this is true.

We're not gonna see Rachunek back in the playoffs in my opinion. Too bad, he was pretty good.

He's a player getting scratched heading into UFA status, making plans for his future. He didn't have plans of continuing in the NHL, but that doesn't mean he's not honoring his current obligations or trying 100% for his current team...

Bad choice in timing - yes. Bad ethics - no.

Shoulda just made a verbal agreement and held up on the signature until playoffs are over. People make mistakes, but I think Karel's a good egg overall and I had hoped to see more of him in the lineup. (just not with Vish or Greene).
