jkrdevil 04-05-2008, 12:00 AM “It’s frustrating to play like that,” Brodeur said. “You come in here and the atmosphere was unbelievable the way that people were going crazy. This is what the playoffs will be and we had a hard time handling it.”
Is that a concern at this time of year?
“It is” Brodeur admitted. “If you can’t get up with the excitement of that game when the playoffs come, you know you’re going get behind the eight ball quickly, especially if we don’t start at home. You’re going to get into a building that’s real loud.”
You can tell just by reading the quote that Marty is frustrated.
And a quote from Sutter:
“Tonight was a lack of professionalism on our hockey team’s part. If anybody wants to tell you different, they’re liars. That's about all. Thanks guys.”
On whether the Devils matched the Flyers' desperation:
“Not even close. Outside of our goaltender, we had a lot of bad players here tonight. They had no passion in their performance at all. It was just a total lack of commitment. If it wasn’t for Marty it would have been 10-0. What more do you have to say than that. It’s disappointing as far as I’m concerned.”
All of this of course is from Gulitti's blog. http://njmg.typepad.com/devilsblog/2008/04/a-lack-of-profe.html
ILikeItVeryMuch 04-05-2008, 12:14 AM Again, we played about 10 minutes of hockey. Horrible showing tonight
Scoot 04-05-2008, 12:18 AM You know what, at least this was recognized, I mean, if we had played well and both Sutter and Marty had said, "well I don't know really" THAT would have sent alarm bells ringing, but they know what it was, a bad game.
You can bet your boots we'll come out flying on Sunday.
Richer's Ghost 04-05-2008, 12:26 AM If anyone has a right to be mad at the team this year - it's Marty.
sattar18 04-05-2008, 12:42 AM i was thinking the exact same thing to myself, this was like a playoff game ( crowd noise, importance of the game) but they just couldnt handle it, the only people that showed up to the game was marty and madden.
guyincognito 04-05-2008, 12:43 AM Marty's obviously got a point, and he did a good job not losing his mind on the ice, but when Sutter says the team isn't prepared, well, you know, that kinda is the coaches' job and they kinda did get off to a really bad start the last time out.
You could see this coming. I didn't really expect "that", but a jumping and a loss were definately a possibility.
Gunnar Stahl 30 04-05-2008, 12:43 AM i wish we had an average goalie in net when we play like this. this way maybe it will show some of the players how bad they really are playing when we lose 10-0 and that its not ok just to lean on marty
Darius Dangleaitis 04-05-2008, 12:47 AM I have no idea how anyone can have any confidence in this team beyond Marty.

negative thoughts lead to the dark side young padiwan....:darth:
Meatwad 04-05-2008, 05:09 AM Having Marty between the pipes should give the rest of the team confidence in the long run. The players know what hes capable of, they just have to show up.
Blitz113 04-05-2008, 09:40 AM These defencemen will be so shaky in the playoffs. Mottau and Greene looked like they were pissing their pants last night with the way that they played.
It's pretty amazing that with a roster full of mostly playoff veterans, they weren't ready to play last night. And this isn't a one night thing, it's been like this on a lot of nights. Brodeur has just plain out stole games. Without him, we're looking at Stamkos.

He needs to start scoring some goals.

marty has every right to be frustrated, he is the WHOLE team, the offense sucks and the defense sucks too............
i just dont understand why they dont forecheck hard like the flyers did last night. ive said it before, the system is a joke and that is why the offense is so bad. if they forechecked the offense could prolly be in the middle of the pack in the league (barring line combos that arent retarded like now). i mean the defense doesnt give marty any help as it is so why not push for more offense b/c if the offense doesnt wake up they could easily get swept by the rangers imo. its like hasek told the sabres in the 99 playoffs when they made it to the finals against dallas, "take chances get in there hard to score goals, ill take care of the defensive side". i mean honestly does anyone agree, b/c like i said marty gets no help anyways.

Its no secret the way to beat the Devils is to get the puck deep and pound your defense. Gotta a feeling your going to see the rangers try this for the next 8 games

I dont understand why NJ isnt trying this on you guys as well, you dont exactly have Stevens/Zubov/Lidstrom on your blue line either.

This is true. A heavy forecheck is essential if the devs want to make this a good series...
I know im on the Devs board so i wont say much more than that...but its going to come down to good transition/outlet passes and some heavy forechecking for sure...

We see it in spurts but when they do it's usually when the Devils produce their best offense..
I'll be more confident in the Devs offense this series if the forecheck is heavy and guys like Martin and Oduya are set free in the offense

Agreed....i think a lot has to do with the rangers d being pretty mobile and moving the puck quickly. Either way, i think these teams are sooo similiar we are looking at a 7 game series that we all secretly want to see. Good luck.
