Tradeoff: Perry vs. Zubov

We're playing the Stars in the playoffs and both Perry and Zubov appear to be returning after the 1st round is over. Which player do you think is more important to their respective club? What team has the advantage from these injuries?

The Ducks' achillies heal is that they have love scoring droughts. Perry is obviously their greasy goal scorer. Ryan or some other player (Carter) will really have to pick it up, more than we've seen.

The Stars seam to have good chemistry but their offense has been stinking it up as well. Zubov might be more important because he plays 25 minutes and control's their PP. Their 3 D rookies would have to step up offensively...

I wanted to make a poll, can the moderator edit this?

Good question. As important as Perry's goal scoring is for the Ducks, I think this has to go to Zubov. He was in Norris contention before he went down. He does it all for Dallas.

Zubov and I don't think it's even close. He is such a vital, dangerous component of their powerplay and such a calming influence on their D that I think his contribution to Dallas will be missed much more than Perry's to the Ducks.

Zubov being out really helps Anaheim since the Ducks are a team that takes a bunch of penalties. If Dallas cant capitalize on their pp opportunities, something Zubov has a huge hand in, then I like the Ducks' chances.

obviously Zubov is a huge part of their team, but wasn't he hurt when Dallas was on fire for a month or two?

Zubov is one the premiere d-men in the league. I'm surprised Dallas didn't fall apart without him. In fact I'm still baffled how they've managed to have the kind of seasons they've had the last two years with all the injuries to key players. But you need your big guns like Zubov in the playoffs and I think it will show.

Perry has been sorely missed but than again he had been sorely missed the previous 10-15 games before he got hurt. We can and have survived without Corey but we'll need him for later rounds for sure.

Zubov... While Perry is important Zubov is one of the best players in the league.

Normally I'd say Zubov and it isn't even close. But also consider that Dallas went 15-4 immediately after he was injured. Yes, they got cold after that, but it's still impressive enough to cast at least a little amount of doubt. 18-11-2 total since he was injured.

That said, it's still Zubov. It's just semi-close now. And by semi-close I mean by a only sizable margin but not a ginormous margin.

Normally I'd say Zubov and it isn't even close. But also consider that Dallas went 15-4 immediately after he was injured.

And then went 3-7-2 since they got Brad Richards. I think that trade messed up their chemistry bad and they aren't going to recover in time to beat the Ducks. Zubov may have righted the ship.

This matchup, especially considering Zubov will be out, is actually one of the best things that could of happened to the Ducks because I don't think they need Perry to beat them. Zubov means more to Dallas right now than Perry means to the Ducks right now.

Zubov for the points that have already been made.

Perry is a large piece of the Ducks puzzle, but nowhere near the size that Zubov is.

Evidently Zubov had sports hernia surgery so I'd rule out any possibility that he'd play against us in the playoffs.

i would be really disappointed if the ducks dont take this match up...for a couple of reasons
Although we've had trouble with them year round, this is a diff team now, and playoffs change everything....
1. Zubov out...i've watched this guy since the early 90's...amazing dman...would give prongs/neids a run for their money..with him out...this changes their pp drastically
2. they traded away jeff halpern..this guy is their 'GOD'..their sammy phallson...offcourse not as good as our GOD tho :sarcasm:;) basically..the C for their checking line, who can chip in some garbage goals here and there...a player which goes under the radar...without him, the stars have basically turned into a somewhat offensive team.....and its going to be time for our stacked D to prove their worth come playoff time

my prediction?

GOD shuts down ribiero/richards making them ineffective
our D clamps down
selanne and getz step it up
bertuzzi starts not being lazy since now games matter for something

Ducks in 5-6 <----only because of turco

I hope you're right about the checking line center, but many times our scorers shut themselves down. :handclap:

Perry will be very missed, as he is the guy who would drive Turco the most insane, however Zubov > Perry

And Zubov to Dallas > Perry to Ducks...

i'll take the tradeoff, though i'd rather see both players playing, personally.

Zubov is the Stars' version of Scott Niedermayer. He makes their offense go at times, is one of the best puck-moving defensemen in the league, and provides stability for their defense.

The thing about the Star's offense is that they're not like an Ottawa where our 'God" line would be able to match up against their top line (Spezza/Heatly/Alfie). Dallas gets a little bit of offense from their top 3 lines, so the matchup-making is a bit more different and we can't hone in on one or 2 lines.

I think the key is forcing the rookie defense into making mistakes/turnovers, but the ducks might have trouble because Dallas is a defensive team and it will be difficult to forecheck them. It would be hard to pressure the Dmen when Dallas dares other teams to dump the puck in. Turco handles too well and they push the puck out of their zone efficiently.

I just hope the ducks don't go on a 3 game dry-spell that happened so frequently during the regular season. I think that is why Perry would be more important to the ducks. Dallas has been showing that they can manage as long as Turco puck-handling helps the D.

I guess the moderator can't make this into a poll?

ya i got the update today that he just had surgery and is out indefinitely. I think Zubov is more important and it's not even close.
