Rapid eye movemenT 03-26-2008, 04:05 PM Hello fellow Californian's, some friends and I will be in town for Friday's game. We're gonna get to the Ponda kind of early, and I'm wondering if there any really good places to get some grubb and a few beers within walking distance to the Pond.
Thanks in advance! :yo:

If you want walking distance, JT Schmidt's across the street, Hooters on the other side of the 57, or Chili's across the Santa Ana river bridge.
USC Trojans 03-26-2008, 04:16 PM *cough* Hooters *cough*

Have you ever been to that Hooters? I doubt it. The girls are hideous, the service is horrific, and the food is nasty.
I guess I lost my man card...
Michael Scofield 03-26-2008, 05:27 PM Hooters sucks after the first time you go in. go to JT Schmidt's

Nope I haven't, I just ate at that huge mall when I was in the area near Irvine. It can't be THAT bad.
Service? Food? What do these have to do with Hooters :D

yeh but after a while it loses its edge... if it ever had one
kducks 03-26-2008, 05:40 PM If your interested in saving money on parking as well as finding a place to eat, a few of the resturants do shuttle services to and from the Ponda. I used to go to El Torito on Ball at St. College. They have a shuttle service that picks you up(you have to show a receipt from the resturant), drops you at the Ponda and then comes back and gets you after the game. You get to save money on parking and not have to worry about driving after a few drinks. National's on St. College used to have a shuttle too.

Okay fine, what happened to California Girls? Was David Lee Roth and the Beach Boys screwing with me? I had Sonoma girls where I lived and they didn't shave their legs but I though you guys had standards.

Rapid eye movemenT 03-26-2008, 05:45 PM Cool guys, thanks for the responses so far. We have hooters up here too, although not in San Jose (yet), so I've been there and done that. In fact a friend of mine works at one.
JT Schmidts looks pretty tempting, hows the beer there?
I'll keep that parking tip in mind. A friend of mine lives a short drive from the Ponda, but not short enough to walk.
Can't wait 'till Friday!

I've been to just about every place around the Honda Center except for JT Schmidts and all are great places to eat except for Mcdonalds.

Actually, there is better looking woman at TJ Schmits then there is at the Anaheim Hooters. They are not in Hooters outfits but they are better looking.
The Newport Beach Hooters on the other hand has much nicer scenery.

Benny Lava 03-26-2008, 07:21 PM Oh man, King's Fish House is damn good. I don't eat there enough.

Yeah, the food is good but expensive. And the service has been really poor (slow) the last couple of times I've been there. JT Schmidt's has the best beer for sure. Love their Amber... Closest to the Ponda as well.
Rapid eye movemenT 03-27-2008, 01:33 PM Someone mentioned the ESPN Bar or something down there, whats that all about?
Plus, how close is the Ponda to nearby bars for after the game?
Diggy 03-27-2008, 01:44 PM Someone mentioned the ESPN Bar or something down there, whats that all about?
ESPN Zone is in Downtown Disney near Disney land. It is a long walk from the pond but an easy little drive.
Plus, how close is the Ponda to nearby bars for after the game?
JT Schmitts is literally across the street. Hooters is a block west down Katella. Kings Fish House, Acapulco, Chili's is about 2.5 blocks east down Katella.

Not sure it's actually a girlfriend when you're just eating there three days a week, specifically requesting her section. I mean, I know they're awful friendly and will come over and even sit at your table, but I think it's part of the gig.

sadly this is real the girl dropped out of college "to pursue modeling"
and ended up working at Hooters

I bet they do. ;)
The girl who was at Hooters last time I was there was pretty cute, but yeah, there are some there who aren't what you'd associate with "Hooters Girl". JT Schmidt's is...ok.
I'll second (or third?) King's Fish House. Really good there.
Ignatius J Reilly 03-30-2008, 03:43 AM JT Schmidt's is across the way, better food than Hooters (go to a brothel or strip joint and save your body the anguish, guys). It's OK.
If you like Mexican cruise down past the Honda Center a ways (West of it) and you'll see some good places. They are mostly holes in the wall, take a flyer on one. At the game they have Ruby's Diner but the food is pretty overpriced as you might expect and not as fresh either. Rubio's is probably the best buy, only about a 30% markup on most stuff.
High Glove 03-30-2008, 12:21 PM The last time I was in that Hooters, my waitress was a 250-pound hag with a tattoo on her neck and a face that made her look like she could eat an apple through a chain-link fence.
I second the recommendation of King's Fish House.

Bump. My first game at the Pond since 2003. 2nd live game since 03. It's been awhile. Stupid interconference schedule.
Anyways I got a couple questions for the regulars. Where can I find out more about which restaurants let you park if you eat there? I guess that either is within walking distance or that has a shuttle.
And all I got is an old eggplant jersey. Do people still wear those?
Spankatola Jamnuts 04-18-2008, 04:44 PM People still wear those jerseys. My father has one he bought for himself in 93. I got him a '06-'07 Giguere jersey with the stanley cup patch on it and it decorates his closet whenever we go to the games.
There really aren't that many restaurants in walking distance. Unless you're interested in a hell of a walk.

Officially you are not allowed to park at the Acapulco's/Chili's/King's Fish/Theater place but I always do and have been OK so far (knock on wood). I do eat there before every game so that's how I justify it for myself ;-) It's about a 10-15 minute walk from there to the Pond. They no longer have the shuttle and I'm not sure if there are any restaurants that still do that. At one point in time they had a shuttle running from Angel Stadium (probably had to pay to park there). JT Schmidt's charges a huge amount to park even if you eat there. There's Hooters on the other side of the freeway but I've never been there (no, really!) Don't know about any other restaurants in that area but I'm sure others can help you out with that.
Not many people still wear the eggplant jersey but I always see some (or the white one with the old logo). Mostly the new jersey (last year and this year's versions) and also quite a few of the 3rd jersey from a few years back (black with the scripted Anaheim).
snarktacular 04-18-2008, 04:55 PM Damn, they stopped the shuttle from the theater center? That's exactly the one that I had heard about and was planning on using. ********.
Cool, I'll wear the jersey then. It seems mildly weird because they're not the Mighty Ducks anymore. I bought a Stanley Cup patch replica, but the numbers were falling off so I returned it. This year's replica's are even cheapier and crappier, and the authentics are just too damn expensive. So I'm stuck with eggplant.
Edit: Are you kidding me? That's censored? "Hey you killed Kenny. You *******!" That might be the lamest censored word ever.
Hollander 04-18-2008, 04:58 PM Damn, they stopped the shuttle from the theater center? That's exactly the one that I had heard about and was planning on using. ********.
The walk is not that bad; I do it every game. Hell, even my buddy who is in a wheelchair does it every game :sarcasm:
Worst part is walking back after a loss; for some reason it always seems a lot longer than after a win.
cottonking 04-18-2008, 05:19 PM So is it the Ponda or is it the Hond?
I heard Hond during the telecast the other day and it gets my vote.

You can call the resturants in the area like El Torito, Nationals, etc. and ask about the shuttles, they would know if they are still running them. I just saw the lady that used to drive the El Torito shuttle going by the last game I was at, so I think she is still running it. There is alos parking on the other side of the 57 off of Cerritos. They have lots you can pay 5 bucks at or you can park off a street named Harris for free. I park in the businesses off that street all the time if the street is full. They put up cones that say no event parking just so you will go around to the other side of the building and pay them 5 bucks to park there. I've never been towed and have never seen anyone getting towed out of there so it's safe.

I like to call it the Ponda since it will forever be the Pond to me. Never heard the Hond so far.
