VIDAKER 03-24-2008, 07:04 PM OK,
With the playoffs just around the corner... Which team matches up best against the DUCKS across a 7 game series. Is there a team that can match them across the board (Goal tending, Defense, Physical Play, Scoring)?

The West is a very tough conference and I think there are a few teams that can beat them. Detroit, San Jose, Dallas and Calgary there is no easy road to the cup.
TeMoZ 03-24-2008, 09:39 PM The playoffs are a whole other animal so we won't know until they start. I think that is the best answer you can get but yea, hopefully no team can.

Agreed. I think anyone can beat anyone in a seven game series. I know, I have seen it happen.

since no one has really given you a straight up answer I will. The team I worry most about playing is the Sharks. I think we're a much more physcial team, but IMO they have the most talent on their roster.
Silver 03-24-2008, 11:25 PM Dallas has been trouble this year. That's my biggest worry. I wouldn't be surprised to see Detroit not make it out of the first round again.

More talent than a healthy ducks team?
the team they finally beat was without 3 star players, and it took them a 2nd 2 man advantage to win.
Having our 2 core intact will be huge vs teams that have multiple scoring lines. Hopefully we get Perry back because then we will have more than 1 line for once..
Joe Canada 03-25-2008, 08:31 AM Detroit always seems to get us off our game when we play them. They have scared me the most this season, although the west is pretty tight this year and many of the top 8 teams could easily advance or be knocked off by another.

I was talking about besides us. Imo, when healthy, they look the most dangerous to me. It would be a great matchup to see a healthy ducks team vs a healthy sharks team.
jrgom81 03-28-2008, 01:30 PM to me the team that beats the Ducks in a 7 game series, is the Ducks.... If they play the half-hearted effort that comes out once in a while, they will lose, but if they play Ducks hockey, they style and pounding and punishment is tough for a team to overcome..
Ignatius J Reilly 03-30-2008, 03:45 AM The team that would concern me most is San Jose who has had the Ducks' number and been hot as hell lately.
I see the Ducks outlasting teams like Minnesota and Calgary on depth alone. Dallas would need some hot play like they had a couple times earlier in the year to get by anybody respectable IMO.
I haven't been watching Detroit much lately but if they get their puck pursuit going like it was in the first half of the year, no one should look forward to playing them.

Yes, top to bottom, I think they have more talent than the Ducks. They do not have the defense Anaheim does but they have an effective one and every line they send over the boards is one that can score on you. Unlike past seasons, they are heading into the playoffs with guys performing at high levels instead of being overtalented underachievers. We'll see if it holds though.
heyfolks 03-30-2008, 06:44 AM IF the stripes make EVERY call against the Ducks, they are out. If Burke keeps tickling campbell in the ear with his tongue, they have a shot to repeat. They are not deep offensively, Gigg'y back may be hurt (no way Hiller can carry this team) and Pronger will have to get multiple games for any reviewed hit after that BS 8 gamer when simon got 20. The guy has been suspended 8 times. That said getting Teemu back was huge. He has been my favorite player for years, but I just can't stand ... well just look at my avatar. :)
CMacdonald 03-30-2008, 06:57 AM Anyone that can score 3 goals per game.

Lucky for us that Giguere's the only goalie in the league with a sub-2.00 GAA since January 1, eh?
jax00 03-30-2008, 12:48 PM If we play our best with a full roster, I can't see anyone beating us. But, the Ducks have yet to show much of the passion and desire from last year.
Nikko 03-30-2008, 01:23 PM Anyone that can score 3 goals per game.
Sometimes I wish I was an Oilers fan if nothing more than to just get to read this kind of hilarity on a daily basis. I mean, this is pure gold. I haven't seen a one liner that funny since "That's not what your mom said".
snarktacular 03-30-2008, 01:28 PM Related question: who would you prefer to face in round 1? The 3 candidates seem to be Calgary, Dallas, and Colorado. Who do we match up best against?

I actually think he's got a point though, sadly.

Anybody who can score 3 or more goals per game on a consistent basis is bound to win out.. based on the law of averages anyway. Unless you have a horrible goalie, 3 goals is usually enough to keep you in, if not win, most games in today's NHL.
As far as first round matchups, I don't even care at this point. We'll have to beat everybody in our path to get to the finals, and if we get an easy first round, we might be in tough for the second round.
Benny Lava 03-30-2008, 03:33 PM Gigg'y back may be hurt (no way Hiller can carry this team)
This sounds eerily similar to something I heard about 2 years ago. I can't remember what it was though...
iHATEbeauch23 03-30-2008, 03:55 PM 3 years in a row without Jiggy. This is pissing me off. What sucks now is that we don't have Bryz as our cushion.
snarktacular 03-30-2008, 04:00 PM Anyone that can score 3 goals per game.
Then I guess it's a good thing for us that there's only 1 such team in the West.

I would have to say that MYASS has a pretty good shot. :)
Who farted??

It's not the playoffs yet. There were plenty of questions surrounding this team's "passion and desire" at this point last season, as well.

You're right. (So we won't be giving up backbreakers at least once per game anymore. :sarcasm:) We'll be fine with Hiller as our backup. The idea is that the backup doesn't play, so I don't think it's the majority of teams who could have their backup step in and not miss a beat (think of teams like the Devils, Sharks and Rangers... same boat).
Arjun 03-30-2008, 08:39 PM Detroit, Dallas, San Jose in the West.
New York Rangers in the East.
On a side note, Philidelphia would have a fun series with Anaheim (wouldn't stand a change though),
MOENing 03-31-2008, 07:35 PM What is the most realistic Line Up for the Playoffs I have this.
Todd Bertuzzi|Ryan Getzlaf|Teemu Selanne
Chris Kunitz|Doug Weight|Bobby Ryan
Travis Moen|Samuel Pahlsson|Rob Niedermayer
Brad May|Todd Marchant|Geogre Parros
Chris Pronger||Sean O'Donnell
Scott Niedermayer||Francios Beauchemin
Mathieu Schnieder||Kent Huskins
|J.S. Giguere|
|Jonas Hiller|
Corey Perry eventually comes back.
MAB sits on the outside.
NerdAtTheCoolTable 03-31-2008, 08:09 PM In the East, New Jersey, in fact they match up well against anybody.
In the West, I'd say Calgary, they won't wont back down from the Ducks physical play.

Calgary would be a great series. Anything would be better than the Ducks Stars series everyone wants.

I edited what I'd like to see on your chart. I doubt it'll happen though.

Forgot about Brian he would be ahead of Geogre. Good Call.
hockeydemon05 03-31-2008, 08:32 PM hurray for capitalizing random words
Capitalization can be used for emphasis. As well it is often used in "random" unconventional ways (I take it you've never read Dickinson of course). I would consider Get and **** are emphasis words that would warrant so-called "random" capitalization.
Just saying...now back to who could be the Ducks in a 7 game playoff series.
Anyone can (playoff and non-playoff), I'm not very confident in the Ducks "grind" right now, they aren't doing it enough and when they do it's not very effective unfortunately. Hopefully when the playoffs come and the intensity rises the "grind" will get better too.
Benny Lava 04-01-2008, 12:21 AM hurray for capitalizing random words
Hooray for no capitalization or punctuation of any kind.
