Rock the Ponda: The Plea for 110 dB

I'm a Ducks fan living up here in Edmonton, which can sometimes be tough because I hear about the Oilers 24-7. There is one thing I'm sure about for the Oilers, however.

Rexall Place during the playoffs was electric. As a fan who attended both Oilers playoff games and Ducks playoff games, the Oilers games were crazy; in fact, they were named as some of the loudest of the league, reaching levels of 110 dB, equivalent to standing next to a jet. And this is before the game, during the pregame show. Ducks fans are great, and we love to chant to our beloved cowbell, but I think we should bring it up a notch!

What I'm hoping is that the Ducks fans can match this intensity during its own pregame show; we've already proven that we can match Canadian fans by singing along with the anthem! Now's our chance to prove to the world and all the disbelievers that Southern California really does love its hockey team. Here's a little example of what Edmonton was like during the playoffs:

This was the Ducks during the playoffs in comparison... there are some chants at the beginning and end, but I know we're capable of kicking it up a notch like the Oilers did.

It's tough to get other fans on board with this, but I'm hoping there are enough Ducks fans here who attend games who want to do this. When the pregame video comes on, stand up, wave the fowl towel, and cheer until the anthems start; others will hopefully follow suit! Advertise it in front of the arena before the game: "Remember to stand up and cheer during the pregame". I'm hoping there are a lot of Ducks fans here to go to the games, so there are enough people to start cheering for others to follow.

The organization can do stuff for this too: turn off the slideshow on ice (which can make people sit and watch the slideshow instead of cheering), and keep it to a lightshow. And especially encourage fans to get really loud during the pregame (a slogan can help, Oilers had "Get Electric")... the Oilers had a countdown to live TV, which the Ducks organization could definitely do to inform the building they're on coast-to-coast, and to show the world what they're made of!

Spread the word around so that enough people know about this before the playoffs. And if this works, then hopefully, we can be recognized as the loudest and most passionate fans in the league; even better than the Oilers! Go Ducks!

Too many people who attend the game don't care about the Ducks. They are there to look at the girls and be apart of the crowd.

On that note - Hopefully this year will be a change.

I've only been at one Ducks playoff game, but it was game four of the Western Conference Finals against the Wild. It was very, very loud. It's tough to compare to the Winnipeg Jets playoff games I've witnessed first-hand because the Jets' rink was so old, small, and the acoustics were ridiculous. But, it was indeed up there.

I have been to many ducks playoff games and I went to every one last year.

The place was very loud.

Why does this thread exist?

Very loud for Anaheim... not loud compared to other hockey teams.

The 30 or so of us on here will be sure to make a difference in a building of 17,000+... ;)

While I am not going to argue what stadium is the loudest or has the loudest fans, I will say that Ponda is a quiet stadium compared to most (based upon design of the building and not counting their overly loud speaker system). Most indoor hockey rinks/arenas are horrible echo chambers that ramp up noise, compared to most arenas the Pond is not that bad for echo but it does make crowd noise quieter.

However, this also makes it one of the best hockey rinks/arenas for concerts around that I have heard (I have hear many better venues, just not better hockey rinks). The worst by far is across town at Staples Center, it is a bloody mess acoustically.

The pre-game video from Game 1 of last year's SCF gives me chills whenever I watch it. Such great atmosphere.

The Pond is as loud as any of them. The crowds at the Pond tend to not do sustained noise as well as some other cities, they seem content to sit and watch, which is kinda where I fall.

Kariya's Game 6 goal against new jersey is still the loudest noise I've ever heard in my life.

I should take this opportunity to remind everyone that db is not a linear scale, but a logarithmic scale. In brief, 3dB is basically a doubling in volume...

Ex. 110dB is TWICE as loud as 107dB.

Take it FWIW.

i went to Calgary for game 7 in the 05/06 series when they played us. the atmosphere was so so loud. I hate to say it but compared to the Dome the Honda is not very loud come playoff time :(

Yeah, thats the feeling I got. It's the sustained noise that separates some of the rinks. That was the case in Winnipeg, anyways.
