Canadian Media Bias

Is anybody else here tired of the unapologetic bias the Canadian media constantly serves up? TSN led the pack in making it a crusade to get Pronger suspended for stepping on Kesler. That's seriously what it was, a 4 day crusade against Pronger to get him suspended and they got exactly what they wanted.

And if that's not enough, every year we make it to the playoffs we have to hear about how we as fans in a "non-traditional" market don't know anything about hockey and don't deserve to have our team win.

Seriously, this **** is ridiculous.

Soapninja,
in the same fashion, we in Canada have to deal with increasing compromises to our national sport in order for it to 'sell' in more lucrative (American) markets. When we see things like Bettman interjecting on Jim Balsille's amazing bid for the Predators, or things like the Heritage Classic being hosted in the US - it really makes us wonder. Even league wide initiatives like changing net sizes and implementing things like glowing posts are meant to captivate American audiences and pander to the almighty dollar. There are two sides to every story.

Also, last time I checked: HFboards was only 50% Canadian (a poll I recently conducted - http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=474794).

WHILE 92% of HFBOARDS MEMBERS AGREE THAT PRONGER SHOULD SERVE SOME KIND OF SUSPENSION. http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=491607

How do you explain that in terms of your media bias claims?

First off quit trolling. Go gloat in your own forum or on the main board.

Before there was even video on the internet over it people were already lynching Pronger. And it's not a claim that the Canadian media is biased it's a ****ing fact. Do a web search sometime of articles involving non-traditional hockey markets done by shameless news sources like TSN and see how they look at our teams.

If it's not Ottawa, Montreal or Toronto it doesn't deserve a team let alone a cup, and when a team like Anaheim does well the media never rallies behind them, they go for the most "Canadian" choice in a us against them mentality. So Anaheim does well, they are a threat to the beloved Canadian teams in the playoffs, so let's take every excuse we can to give Canadian teams an edge.

It's shameless.
Seriously, go back to your cave.

I dont think it was Canadian media alone...it was all hockey fans. I'm pretty sure everyone except for Duck fans felt Pronger deserved atleast 5 games.

Are you serious? Are you THAT insecure? Give Canadian teams an advantage? That's why since Bettman's been around, the Jets moved to Phoenix and the Nordiques moved to Denver, because the NHL tries SO hard to give Canadian teams any sort of advantage. Those advantages have worked out some well considering it's been 15 years since a Canadian team last won the cup. Pronger got suspended because he blatantly stomped on Kesler's leg. Maybe your homerism is blinding you, but look at the video again.

Interesting that a thread intended for Ducks fans has gotten responses from Edmonton, Ottawa and Montreal fans.

Nothing better to do than troll the Ducks board picking fights?

Stop crying about it, little *****.:yo:

And why does it matter anyway, now Pronger is rested for a few days and he can go back to being the cheap-shot giant for the play-offs and the Ducks win the Cup again in a market where no one ****ing cares. Everyone goes home happy.

This is textbook trolling, and I hate to be the one to point out the obvious... but this is a Ducks board, you shouldn't be over here disturbing the peace, no matter how valuable you think your two cents are.

By the way, I'm Canadian, I ardently support the Habs, I still live in Canada, but I agree with this thread. I guess that makes me a traitor.

Yep, in fact before sending the cup back to Canada our bandwagon of ignorant fans piss on it mistaking it for a urinal. After that we forget that hockey is a sport, and go back to fake tanning during the summertime.

Btw does Canadia still have any of them there hockey teams left? I'm thinking they should all be relocated somewhere in the US where teams actually win.

Where the hell did all these fans come from? This is the Ducks board. Trolling at its finest.

I agree with the OP, there is some bias evident. But not stuff that will make me go crazy. More like, eh they're at it again.

He gets back just in time for the playoffs, ofcourse they took this into consideration when deciding the ammount of games.

He's a canadian, and one of the bigger names of the NHL..

It's not like he's an indian or something..

If there's one thing everyone can agree on it's that there's a conspiracy somewhere there:sarcasm:

Why would the Canadian Press be against one of the top players on the Canadian Olympic team? I....I don't get it.

So what? I don't necessarily agree with everything that's been insinuated in the topic, but the fact that the "crime" was perpetrated by an American team against a Canadian team gives it a little more weight than looking at a player's nationality. If it was a foreign player on a Canadian team who did it against a Canadian player on an American team, I don't think this gets the same press coverage- speculation on my part, of course.

Because the Canadian Olympic Team doesn't play in the NHL?

But Pronger does, and not for any of the teams they support. Instead he plays on an American team that they know every Canadian NHL team would struggle against right now.

There is cup starvation in Canada right now.

Au contraire!

Chris Simon (Canadian player) on the New York Islanders (American team) "stomps" Jarko Ruutu (Finnish player) on the Pittsburgh Penguins (American team)

result = 30 games

Chris Pronger (Canadian player) on the Anaheim Ducks (American team) "stomps" Ryan Kesler (Canadian player) on the Vancouver Canucks (Canadian team)

result = 8 games

IF ANYTHING, there is a bias against Canadians based on these results. Either that, or a love for the Finns ;-).

I think it's funny that there is an Oilers fan arguing against canadian media bias. TSN only likes western canadian teams slightly more than american teams.
