swisdan 03-13-2008, 03:47 AM He deserves a thread.
I remember in the season beginning, some people asked who'll be the Giguere backup. I think with i have a pretty good idea that Hiller can do the job. Look at his stats: .920 .
And it's the first time he plays in Amerika, i would have thinking he must have sometime for adaptation but no way...
By now, we have two great goaltenders. After Bryz and Gerbs, we have a lot of chance with our backups!
bleuer 03-13-2008, 07:19 AM just came to my mind...is there a Ducks policy, that the backup has to be European to be successful...?
Stalenkov, Gerber and Bryzwere backups in our better seasons...oh, forgot Hiller...well...if this season turns out well :D
kerjo 03-13-2008, 11:37 AM While he's playing, he does look a lot like Giguere (which is a good thing). Their stats are pretty similar too. I watched the game last night and you'd just see a shot come in and the camera panning to Hiller in goal, with the puck stuck to him like velcro.
Next thing you know, people will be making threads about Hiller's pads doing the work for him, since he doesn't need to make any spectacular saves.
kducks 03-13-2008, 11:56 AM Hiller is defintely looking much more confident out there. He played a great game last night. I was worried when they got rid of Bryz to bring him in, but he is winning me over more and more.
kducks 03-13-2008, 11:56 AM Double post, board was being weird.
Bartcal 03-13-2008, 12:07 PM I was impressed by Hiller's play last night. He seemed to stay cool and just do his job. He deserved the 1st or 2nd star in my opinion.
anaheim ducks90 03-13-2008, 12:34 PM I hope that Burkey will resigned him in the next time. He did a good job.
Lyons71 03-13-2008, 12:52 PM I'll say it since someone eventually will... Hiller uses illegal pads.
Spankatola Jamnuts 03-13-2008, 02:36 PM He stuffs his chest protector with JS Giguere.

It was a battle of the illegal pads last night,:pout:
Joe Canada 03-13-2008, 02:44 PM He stuffs his chest protector with JS Giguere.
It's only fair since Giguere stuffs Hiller into his pads.

Joe Canada 03-13-2008, 02:50 PM Isn't Lindt chocolate from Switzerland? That stuff is godly (but not a capital G, that would imply it's as good as Pahlsson, which it isn't).
Ducksforcup 03-13-2008, 04:28 PM I am very confident with Hiller in net now. The only goal the Canucks scored was just a great shot. Caryle has handled his situation really well. He has given him quite a few games and that has risen Hiller's confidence up.
There is a reason why he was named the best goaltender not in the NHL. I knew that there would be a little transition period, but the potential was always there.
HellasLEAF 03-19-2008, 06:31 PM Hiller has been great. I picked him up to complete my tandem with him and Giguere and he has given me solid starts for months now.
One question though. Does he get another start? It's almost the end of the season, do you see him getting one last start in net or will they ride Giggy now.
dkhockey 03-19-2008, 06:48 PM He was great in Superbad....and did you see him on SNL......very funny.....:)

The only reason not to start Giguere at this point is if he's either injured, or we're playing in a back-to-back situation. Every point matters at this time of the season, so you go with your best guys.
cmcdmania 03-19-2008, 11:56 PM I was on the GSBB and I saw this link for Hiller's mask. Pretty cool video of the making of and stuff!!

Pretty cool. Thanks u...
sammyp 03-23-2008, 08:12 PM Hiller seems to be much more confident in net as of late. From the first time I saw him I noticed one glaring weakness, which is his rebound control. He still gives up more rebounds than he should, but he's so quick in net and his positioning is very sound. He's usually in perfect position to make a stop. He's a lot like Giguere in that aspect. You really can't say enough about how amazing of a goaltending coach Francois Allaire really is.

the whole time i was reading that i was thinking that we gotta credit Allaire, but you did it at the end. He seems to be very good with at least positional goalies. My only problem with hiller is that he scares the **** out of me, cuz with every like other shot he looks behind him.
Sojourn 03-24-2008, 01:09 AM And those stripey uniforms the guards at the Vatican wear.
Hey, wait a minute. Those were designed by Michelangelo (not his best work, clearly) and are owned by the Vatican.

I know I know...but they are the Swiss Guards....
Diggy 03-24-2008, 06:25 PM If Giguere still had back problems I would see no problems playing Hiller in the playoffs. In his last dozen or so performances he has looked really good to me. He still gives a few too many rebounds but he is better then when he first started. I am impressed with this kid.
Joe Canada 03-24-2008, 08:49 PM He's been playing well, but I would still have reservations in having to play him over Giguere in the playoffs (assuming it came to that, that Giguere was injured). Many a good goalie has flourished in the regular season and floundered in the playoffs. I'm not saying that's what will become of Hiller, but anytime you go into the playoffs with a proven commodity in net versus a rookie (to the NHL) backup, you have to go with the percentages.
If we play like we did last year in the first round, it may not matter again. But I wouldn't go as far to say that I would have "no problem playing Hiller in the playoffs".. not yet anyway.

I totally agree with you that the Ducks should go with Giguere if he is healthy. Giguere is still > Hiller...that said, I think Hiller would do well also if Jiggy is injured.

Of course, all I meant by my comments was that I wouldn't want to put the pressure of expectations to perform like Bryz in 2006 onto Hiller. If he can see some game action in the odd game where we're getting beaten by a few (as Gerber did in 2003), that's great.. not that we're losing, but even a little experience helps.
swisdan 03-26-2008, 02:25 PM Hiller has had already some experiences in PO. For example, in the last season, he won swiss championship with Davos, 1-0 in game seven. And in the season 2005/06, he was in final.

All my remarks refer to the NHL playoffs. He has no experience in them, so we can't qualify him as a good or bad NHL playoff goalie until he does.
