fter going through a bit of a funk last week, the Vancouver Canucks are once again looking like a playoff contender. The Anaheim Ducks are well aware of the Canucks' potency.
Vancouver looks to win its fourth straight game Wednesday and complete its first season sweep of the Ducks, who are trying to win a franchise-record eighth straight home game.
With a 2-1 loss to Colorado on March 4, the Canucks (35-24-10) dropped their fourth straight game to fall two points behind Colorado and Nashville for the Western Conference's final playoff spot.

Outscored 12-6 during its skid, Vancouver has bounced back to win its last three games by a combined score of 12-5. The Canucks have moved into eighth place in the West, one point in back of Minnesota and two points ahead of the ninth-place Predators.
Vancouver is coming off Monday's 2-1 overtime victory over Los Angeles, as Ryan Kesler netted the game winner 46 seconds into the extra period after scoring the tying goal with 2:41 left in regulation.
"We knew we were playing a solid game and we knew we were throwing pucks on the net," Kesler said. "They played us hard, but we just found a way to win."
Roberto Luongo turned aside 17 shots in the win and is expected to make his 16th consecutive start Wednesday for the Canucks.
Luongo has a 1.67 goals-against average during Vancouver's three-game winning streak after going 0-2-2 with a 2.82 GAA in his previous four starts. He has been in net for two games against the Ducks this season, making 26 saves in the Canucks' 4-0 win on Nov. 27 and stopping 21 shots in a 2-1 victory on Dec. 30.
Vancouver has outscored Anaheim 9-3 in winning the first three games of the season series. The Canucks, who had lost six of seven to the Ducks (39-25-8) before this season, have never swept a season series from Anaheim in the Ducks' 14-year history.
Daniel Sedin leads the Canucks with 26 goals, but has not scored in a season-high nine straight games. Sedin, though, has scored in each of his last two games against the Ducks, giving him three goals and three assists during a five-game point streak versus them.

Anaheim fell to Phoenix 3-2 in a shootout on Tuesday, its third loss in four games following an 11-1-0 stretch.
The Ducks blew a 2-0 second-period lead against the Coyotes, but picked up a point that drew them within four of Pacific Division-leading San Jose.
"We didn't accomplish what we wanted," coach Randy Carlyle said. "Sure, we picked up a point, but also lost a point. On the road, you get what you can, but the puck did not bounce our way."
The Ducks look to get things turned around at Honda Center, where they have won 14 of their last 16.
Anaheim has won seven straight at home, matching the franchise record set Dec. 19-Jan. 15. The Ducks have outscored opponents 24-11 during the home streak, killing off 28 of 30 opposing power plays during that span.
Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who stopped 37 shots Tuesday, is 10-2-2 with a 1.34 GAA and two shutouts since Feb. 1. He has lost each of his last two starts against the Canucks, though, posting a 3.97 GAA in those contests.
Center Ryan Getzlaf scored his 22nd goal Tuesday, just his third in his last 21 games. He has one goal in three games against Vancouver this season.

Spankatola Jamnuts 03-12-2008, 11:24 PM Told you Marchant was hot :p
cmcdmania 03-12-2008, 11:24 PM Cool! Hiller got an assist.

Duckstudd269 03-12-2008, 11:27 PM Haha Marchant decided to make up for that SO attempt.
Joe Canada 03-12-2008, 11:30 PM Marchant is undoubtedly the new king of weird opening goals. Hope he can manage one in every game from here on in.. haha
Also, did Rob Niedermayer give him some empty net shooting pointers or what? Maybe Marchant can repay him and show Rob how it's done when there's a goalie still there.
Joe Canada 03-12-2008, 11:31 PM OMG Marchant take two
Moen with the goal though
McDonald19 03-12-2008, 11:31 PM beautiful short handed goal by Moen.
2-0
and another nice play by Marchant
Benny Lava 03-12-2008, 11:31 PM I thought that was Marchant at first. Oh well, Moen's good too.
Spankatola Jamnuts 03-12-2008, 11:32 PM Bingo bango bongo, beware the positioning of Luongo.
Joe Canada 03-12-2008, 11:32 PM More PKs like that, guys. :D
Mules 03-12-2008, 11:32 PM Hey guys, as an Avs fans, please hold the lead this time, OK??
Joe Canada 03-12-2008, 11:37 PM Hey guys, as an Avs fans, please hold the lead this time, OK??
If you promise to stop injuring our players... :help: (Actually, a Ducks win is a double boon for me since I'm an Avalanche fan too. :))
Given last night's result and how it transpired, it's especially important for the Ducks to keep the pressure on Vancouver right now.
Benny Lava 03-12-2008, 11:37 PM Hey guys, as an Avs fans, please hold the lead this time, OK??
Pfft, only if you beat Edmonton tomorrow.
Joe Canada 03-12-2008, 11:38 PM Rob! Marchant HAS been giving him lessons! haha
Static 03-12-2008, 11:38 PM Damn, the goal scorers are out tonight.
McDonald19 03-12-2008, 11:38 PM 3-0
Rob scores...
cmcdmania 03-12-2008, 11:38 PM Special Nieds scores? Woah!!
Joe Canada 03-12-2008, 11:39 PM Nice play by Beauch digging in front on that play, too.
Ugh, another penalty coming up.. jesus...
Hockey Duckie 03-12-2008, 11:39 PM Wow! 3-0 game already! Two goals by the shutdown line.
Benny Lava 03-12-2008, 11:39 PM Haha, okay. What is this 1995? Marchant and Rob scoring?
Special Nieds scores? Woah!!
And it wasn't in the last minute of the 3rd period, with the Ducks leading. My head is going to explode.
Static 03-12-2008, 11:40 PM Wow, great call.
Static 03-12-2008, 11:40 PM And they score off of that ********.
McDonald19 03-12-2008, 11:41 PM Refs help the Canucks get back in the game.
3-1
marginal penalty call on Getz to say the least.
Benny Lava 03-12-2008, 11:41 PM Way to go refs.
Joe Canada 03-12-2008, 11:41 PM Bah, soft call leads to a Canucks goal. I suppose that's why the refs try to even these games up (not just the Ducks games, but you see it all the time).
We'll be in trouble if they decide to pull this crap in the playoffs this year. And by "they" I refer to both the refs for the soft calls and the Ducks for their undisciplined (at times) play.
190Octane 03-12-2008, 11:41 PM is anyone else getting basketball on what is supposed to be the hd feed and getting garbled sound on the regular feed?

The FUCCK was that pass about, Bertuzzi.
Joe Canada 03-12-2008, 11:44 PM Ugh, Kunitz is too impatient in front of Luongo and shoots it over the net, then gets it back and is too patient, letting time basically run out.
Oh well, good period. Sketchy calls, but we've come out of it fine thus far.
hockeydemon05 03-12-2008, 11:44 PM Kesler is a *****. He better watch it the next 2 periods.
McDonald19 03-12-2008, 11:45 PM Burrows and Kesler trying to start some crap...May and Sutherby need to police that.
Spankatola Jamnuts 03-12-2008, 11:45 PM The FUCCK was that pass about, Bertuzzi.
Ya know, pads and everything, and this game notwithstanding, Luongo's amazing. Vancouver is a crap team with no coherent system and little grit. It's mind-boggling that they have a winning record.
Static 03-12-2008, 11:46 PM Im still trying to figure out how pushing a guy is considered holding....

What? I really did mean the Ducks.
:sarcasm:
Besides, there's a handful of good ones who can take a joke once in a while. :)
Duckstudd269 03-13-2008, 12:05 AM I guess the Ducks want Vancover to get back in this game. We've already given them 50 powerplays.:help:
Edit: Nevermind, it said on the scoresheet that Teemu just took a penalty, but now it's gone.
Static 03-13-2008, 12:05 AM Teemu tried that fake shot slide between the legs move that he scored on against Colorado two years ago in the playoffs.
I think that only works like twice in someone's life.
cmcdmania 03-13-2008, 12:06 AM Are the Canucks missing anyone important tonight?
Joe Canada 03-13-2008, 12:07 AM Weight! About time for him. :)
Static 03-13-2008, 12:07 AM Doug Weight scores a goal...most shocking event of the night?
Benny Lava 03-13-2008, 12:07 AM Doug, what the hell are you doing scoring a goal?
Hockey Duckie 03-13-2008, 12:07 AM is anyone else getting basketball on what is supposed to be the hd feed and getting garbled sound on the regular feed?
Sad... Fox can't support two HD channels. I dunno how, but why if FSPT isn't the lesser of the two fox sports channels by changing names, then shouldn't FSPT have HD?
Weight actually scored?! On the PP even!
Benny Lava 03-13-2008, 12:08 AM Haha, we chase Luongo.
Duckstudd269 03-13-2008, 12:10 AM Wow goal scorers tonight: Marchant, Moen, R.Niedermayer, and Weight... Who'da thought?:yo:
Joe Canada 03-13-2008, 12:13 AM Next game you'll see Selanne, Huskins, Pahlsson and Scotty with fighting majors. ;)
snarktacular 03-13-2008, 12:16 AM What the hell is going on? Goals by Nieds, Marchant, Weight, and Moen?! Luongo chased? We scored more than twice? Did I miss some kind of Twilight zone?
Next thing you're going to tell me Bertuzzi shot the puck and hit somebody. Or that Beauchemin hit the net.
LaCarriere 03-13-2008, 12:17 AM As an Avalanche fan, I applaud your effort and thank you for this win.

Joe Canada 03-13-2008, 12:23 AM Ahlers is officially on the Giguere-for-Vezina bandwagon... if he wasn't already.
lijay55 03-13-2008, 12:50 AM just got back from the gym..gotta head off to work now :( but awesome that we're up like this....our guys better keep up the tempo!
Prediction: Due to a case of simultaneous supernatural events...king beauch will HIT the net :D
Sandlak 03-13-2008, 12:53 AM Any mention on your broadcast of Pronger stomping on Kesler's leg? Our broadcast mentioned it, but no replay.
Theridion 03-13-2008, 01:05 AM Any mention on your broadcast of Pronger stomping on Kesler's leg? Our broadcast mentioned it, but no replay.
I did not notice it, therefor it did not happen. Although, I am sure if you analyze any hockey game, you can find some situation to debate in terms of its officiating.
Static 03-13-2008, 01:09 AM Ryan is hitting and rubbing guys out....give the kid some more ice time.
Spankatola Jamnuts 03-13-2008, 01:12 AM Any mention on your broadcast of Pronger stomping on Kesler's leg? Our broadcast mentioned it, but no replay.
Wouldn't we have noticed a spurting stump on the ice?
Benny Lava 03-13-2008, 01:13 AM Why does it always seem that Hazy says stuff just as I think the same exact thing. I swear it happens at least once a game. I was just thinking to myself, "Hey, the crowd seems to really like Ryan", and literally 2 seconds later Hayward starts talking about how the fans are cheering every time Ryan makes a good play.
mrmyheadhurts 03-13-2008, 01:16 AM Good game for you guys. I see no reason for your team to not repeat as champs as long as they get a consistent effort like they're giving tonight.
Getzlaf is ridiculous.:handclap:
cmcdmania 03-13-2008, 01:16 AM I really hope nothing happens, but I wonder if we can give up 3 goals in 5 minutes.
Especially with our defense and the way we've been playing tonight, I meant originally.
Benny Lava 03-13-2008, 01:19 AM I don't know how Getzlaf holds on to the puck like that. It's just insane. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but he's gotta be one of the best puck possesion guys in the game.
Hockey Duckie 03-13-2008, 01:27 AM The three stars were all from the shutdown line: 3. Rob 2. God 1. Moen
Hockey Duckie 03-13-2008, 01:31 AM I hope with three days until the next game that something positive occurs to the PP. I wonder what's wrong. The team controls the puck, digs the pucks out of the corner. Are they just too fancy on the PP?
snarktacular 03-13-2008, 01:34 AM Did Billy Mac just say "owned"? "Ducks beat Vancouver, who had owned them thus far in the season."
Ha.

When Hazy was talking about the crowd being sophisticated and blah blah blah cheering for Ryan making a simple defensive play, my thoughts were "Sophisticated and realizing that it's important for the future that he does so? Or a case of lowered expectations?"
SLake 03-13-2008, 01:37 AM Thanks from Nashville!
Benny Lava 03-13-2008, 01:41 AM When Hazy was talking about the crowd being sophisticated and blah blah blah cheering for Ryan making a simple defensive play, my thoughts were "Sophisticated and realizing that it's important for the future that he does so? Or a case of lowered expectations?"
I was thinking about that and came to the conclusion that they probably just showed some really hot chick in the crowd flashing the camera when Ryan made that play. Hence the cheering. And the sophistication.
Well, it was a good game. It was nice to see my friends pay for my food and drinks tonight for the first time this season. The best part might have been watching Luongo go to the bench.
Static 03-13-2008, 01:47 AM I wonder if Carlyle is grooming Ryan for this role so that he stays up when Perry is back...

You might be right.
Randall Graves* 03-13-2008, 02:55 AM I wonder if Carlyle is grooming Ryan for this role so that he stays up when Perry is back...
I would ask...why.
His offensive talent is being wasted so far, seems like the ducks are intent on him not reaching his rookie bonuses :sarcasm:
Seriously, I know Marchant has scored some goals, but have you ever looked at our 2nd line and said 'wow, they look dangerous'. It hasn't really at all, I think it would be a mistake confusing some fluky goals as good second line play.
I think Ryan needs to be given a chance to atleast chip in, he's shown a good amount of growth in the defensive end, so when is that rewarded with more ice time? His skills I think would mesh better with Getzlaf than Selanne at this point.
karacter 03-13-2008, 03:02 AM IMO i agree that his offensive talent is being wasted, but playing against a less physical time like say detroit, is anyone opposed to a line consister of ryan and then carter/sutherby/marchant (i added marchant for when perry gets back) playing the other wing and center? Decent speed with carter, plenty of defensive responsibility with sutherby and carter and gets ryan some playoff experiance? Assuming carlyle doesn't use carter on the 2nd line when he gets back.
Good game though, we still fell asleep in the 2nd period, as always. Carlyle really needs to work on his 1st intermission speeches...
snarktacular 03-13-2008, 03:29 AM I was thinking about that and came to the conclusion that they probably just showed some really hot chick in the crowd flashing the camera when Ryan made that play. Hence the cheering. And the sophistication.

Ryan, the team's top prospect, got 9:42 TOI today, on the 4th line. He's averaging 11:11 this year. In a year where he wasn't good enough the entire year to stick on the big club. Getzlaf aad Perry, the team's last 2 top offensive prospects, averaged 12:30 and 11:30, respectively, in 05-06, the year where they weren't good enough to spend the entire year on the big club. Also on the 4th line. Penner got 11:58 in his 19 games in 05-06.
Seems pretty much what I"d expect from Carlyle. It certainly didn't hurt the other kids' development.
His reward is PP ice time, of which he got 2:00 today. Compared to 0:56 yesterday.
Dolemite 03-13-2008, 03:32 AM I think I briefly summarize the Canucks and their effort tonight:

The only difference is Getzlaf and Perry had each other to feed off of, knowing the other was a capable offensive talent. I don't mind easing him in but essentially he's got no shot in hell of creating anything at ES with this line.

Why does it matter if he creates anything at ES? We're not counting on him to produce. His being up is just us helping our future. He's getting acclimated to the NHL, working on learning the defense and systems. It's not like his hands are going to go away. He's getting offensive practice on the PP. Let him learn his way and pay his dues without the pressure. Since he was hardly dominating the AHL, he's going to get sent back down when Perry returns anyways.
We're not counting on the 2nd line to produce offense either. It was clear when Carlyle moved both Kunitz and Selanne to Getzlaf's line that the team's strategy is to make do with only 1 line of scoring, and hope all 3 other lines can contribute some sporadically.
Pepper 03-13-2008, 04:19 AM So if Ryan plays every remaining game of the season, he will pass the 25gp mark and thus won't be a rookie next season (and more importantly can't get the rookie bonuses).
Smart thinking.

i gotta agree, i like the idea of ryan on the 4th line. It gives him time to work on the things he needs the most work on which is defense. i know its probably his skating too but Perry still needs work on his skating and he was producing at a good pace this season. I also like the idea of him being rewarded with some time on the PP, it's great for a player that is trying to learn how to play at the NHL level to be rewarded when he is playing very well on the 4th line.
Just imagine if Perry and Ryan could both skate...WOW those two would be amazing. I think it was hazzy who pointed out that his skating does seem much improved, literally right after i said it as hayward is honestly always 10 seconds behind everyone else in the world.

Yeah. I wondered all along if they'd do something like that. He got sent down to be ineligible for some bonuses so Selanne could get money this year.
Then I figured he'd get called up for another 12 games. But maybe they weren't, at least until Perry got hurt. Now that Perry's hurt they're probably using the rookie thing as a nice bonus. It is some lucky timing though that Perry got hurt with exactly 12 games left.
Some cap wizardry there.
hockeydemon05 03-13-2008, 04:57 AM That was a good game, good pressure by the first line (Bertuzzi looked good), But Selanne has got to start nailing those chances. Ryan was decent. Great day, and to top it off I got into UCDavis!

Given how horrible the powerplay is, we cannot go into the playoffs with 1 scoring line. We could maybe live with it if the PP actually lived up to it's potential, and it better or this team could easily be 1 and done.
Pwnasaurus 03-13-2008, 10:14 AM Hey Roberto! When the puck's gliding to the corner, Marchant has an angle and he's a lot faster than you...he's gonna shoot....HE'S GONNA SHOOT....Got it?

The leagues gotta be fair.

Theridion 03-13-2008, 03:00 PM Pronger undoubtedly stepped on Kessler. Question is only did he do it on purpose.
I think this topic is making more noise than it deserves.

Duckstudd269 03-13-2008, 04:08 PM Like Lyons said, no suspension.

Since 2000, he's had 5. Somtimes, it's quantity over quality.

If by "tea" you mean "intercourse", then yes, she is.

If by "intercourse" you mean "making banana-orange smoothies," then yes, she is.

Honestly, I don't give a **** how many times he's been suspended.

Well the league, outside of this convient exception, does.

For some reason your little caption reminds me of this.

Of course that's not what I meant. "Maybe his wife is having making banana-orange smoothies with nhl brass" obviously makes negative sense. If you couldn't read between the lines, this is what I meant:
Maybe his wife will not un-make banana brass intercourse with the NHL's tea.
lux_interior 03-14-2008, 03:32 AM Well the league, outside of this convient exception, does.
Doesn't bother me at all.
190Octane 03-14-2008, 03:38 AM What do you think would've happened had Kesler stepped on Pronger? I'm thinking world war 3 and it would've been awesome.
lux_interior 03-14-2008, 03:54 AM A big to do about a nothing play, really.

Yeah, the ducks players would've beat up kesler. pronger probably would've used his chin guard as a handle and beat kesler with his helmet.
