Hey:) I live in Sweden and wonder a little bit about the the CHL(WHL, QMJHL, OHL)
What is the difference between these leagues? And is any league better then the others?
And I also wonder whats typical for each league...speed, physical play, defence, offence etc.
If anyone know I would also be interested to know how good these leagues are and if you can compare anyone to some Swedish league..also what the difference is between the juniorhockey in Canada and the hockey in Sweden, example in Allsvenskan(Sweden Tier 2).
I would be really thankful if you would help me and answer these questions:D
Thanks

Ok, partly anyway...
Hey:) I live in Sweden and wonder a little bit about the the CHL(WHL, QMJHL, OHL)
What is the difference between these leagues? And is any league better then the others? If you look on the Prospects board, there are probably periodic threads debating the relative strengths of the leagues. It's a common debate, which is probably why nobody jumped in to re-start it here. :) Nominally, the leagues are all supposed to be equal, and are at least pretty darn close anyway.
And I also wonder whats typical for each league...speed, physical play, defence, offence etc.
"Typically", the WHL is known more for physical play, for strong defense and coaching systems, a more "pro style" game. Whereas the QMJHL and increasingly the OHL are thought of as more offense-oriented leagues where things are a bit looser and the penalties are called a bit tighter. But really, you can pick teams or players from any of the leagues who excel in areas that fall wide of the overall league-stereotype. Almost to the point of invalidating the stereotypes entirely IMHO.
My own impression is that the WHL is indeed a bit above the others on average - at least as a breeding ground for NHL prospects - just because of the more pro-style play. Then the OHL would be a teensy bit above the QMJHL just because I tend to feel the depth players in the OHL are a shade better than in the Q. But it's all totally subjective once you get down to comparing these leagues that are so close. A good player or good team from one league would succeed in any of the others. The QMJHL teams have fared well recently in the Memorial Cup which annually pits the league champions against eachother for an overall CHL champion, and some will point to that as a sign that it's not fair to try to rank them below the other leagues. Etc.
It tends to become a prickly issue, which is another reason probably why nobody was keen to risk opening the debate again in response to your question. :)
If anyone know I would also be interested to know how good these leagues are and if you can compare anyone to some Swedish league..also what the difference is between the juniorhockey in Canada and the hockey in Sweden, example in Allsvenskan(Sweden Tier 2).

Can't help you with any comparisons to the Swedish leagues, alas. Although potentially some CHL fans could come along and compare and contrast how some of the Swedish import players in the CHL have fared as some sort of attempt at it. :dunno:

The Western Hockey League, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and the Ontario Hockey League make up the Canadian Hockey League. They are three separate leagues. Players from Western canada (BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Alberta) play in the WHL, players from Ontario play in the OHL, and, for the most part, players from eastern Canada play in the QMJHL. This isn't set in stone, as you'll sometimes see a player from one part of Canada play in another part of Canada.
