With the acquisition of Brian Campbell at the deadline for Steve Bernier and a 1st round pick in this years draft, Matt Carle has been a healthy scratch for the last 4 games. They have several RFA's (Pavelski, Clowe, Erhroffa and Goc) and I'm almost 99.9% certain that they'll try to resign Campbell, who is turning UFA this summer, so they need to drop some salaries and Carle seems to be the odd man out.
Carle is only 22 years of age, he's a offensive defensemen that could replace Brookbank on our PP (:help:) and has alot of potential if matched with the right coaches (big bird :naughty:). The only thing that bothers me is his contract. He got a extension from DW for 2.9M$, 3.5M$, 3.5m$ and 3.8M$ for the next 4 years. Drop Vishnevsky this summer and this can be a real boost for this organisation.
To San Jose
Nicklas Bergfors
3rd round pick
Vs
To New Jersey
Matt Carle
Yes or No ???

Didn't Carle just resign with the Sharks? Just saying I don't understand why they would look to move a young player they just resigned with them.

Because if they plan on re-signing Campbell in the summer (and keeping Marleau), they'll need to shed some salary. Carle has really underperformed this season and is scheduled to have a $3M+ cap hit next year.

Carle has a lot of talent but seems to have mental lapses now and then. I think we could turn him into a 1st pair d-man just by correcting a few things in his game.

Ouch, I dunno if I want that contract. Pass.

Imagine what Big Bird could do with someone who actually has talent. Seeing as he took this group to the best GAA in the East.
I am down for something like that.

I'd say with about 80% certainty that Erhoff will be the odd man out. Bergfors and a 3rd doesn't do too much for them. With that said, I'm not so sure you guys want his cap hit either.

yeah that's why getting him could be interesting..but that cap hit sure looks dangerous.

C'mon guys... Vitali Vishnevski will get 2M$ next year and he's 5 years older then Carle. VV has 0 offensive skills and he gets flamed on our board every time Sutter puts him in the lineup.
Carle at 3M$ >>>>>>>>>>>> Vishnevski and Rachunek at 3.5M$ !!!
P.S. The reason I'm mentionning Carle is because he's been a healthy scratch for the past 4 games and on the Sharks board they're willing to let him go for a late 1st round pick. Erhroff will defenatly resign with them and I don't think DW traded away Bernier and they're 1st rounder for a rental and that's why I think that Carle becomes expendable.

yes please...i'd do that deal for us in a heartbeat...
In 3 years from now everyone will see what all the hype was surrounding Carle coming out of college...
We're talking about a guy who numerous people have said has "Norris-caliber" potential...can you name any young defenceman on our current roster or in the entire organization with that type of potential?? I can't. Pair him up with Robinson for a couple seasons and you'd see a huge turnaround in his defensive zone coverage and physical play...thats really the only thing keeping him out of the Sharks lineup this year...his offensive game, skating and vision are second to none....
If you take a visit over to the Sharks board and do a little poking around there you will see alot of them seriously think Carle will turn out huge and apparently so does DW...so I highly doubt they'd take this offer....not to say they wouldn't trade Carle but I could see them wanting significantly more in return than Bergfors and a 3rd...i'm thinking they'd ask for Gionta....

I honestly don't think that Carle would be a good fit with the Devils, then again I'm pretty sure the Sharks could get a better offer than this one.
