SalvadorBleedBlue44 03-09-2008, 04:23 AM how are you guys liking him so far? we definitely miss him down here in St. Louis Gunnar Stahl 30 03-09-2008, 04:28 AM he was shaky at first but now hes been doing great. Easton 03-09-2008, 04:52 AM He said he was nervous so I expect him to take a little while to get adjusted. fIREnIcE 03-09-2008, 05:05 AM i liked the frit he brought tonight despite the penalty....white was out, and I have a feeling if we didnt have bryce no one would be that pressance on the backline that delivers punishment along the boars, our ther d men although they have stepped it up, do not bring that to the table, as they are primarly puck movers, but I agree wit the other poster maybe an adjustment or acclimation to the team which makes sense. I see him just getter better and better each game, he can learn a lot from big bird and he can help us out a lot...its win win good deal from lou and im sure cam will do hi s job for you...has he played yet work has been hectic so i havent wtached on the fly recently ro ched stats or your board? daveskirtun 03-09-2008, 05:19 AM I love his play so far. Saved a couple goals. Devilswede 03-09-2008, 06:45 AM Obviously he needed some time to adjust and did struggle a bit in his first couple of games, but has played really well in the last couple. He's solid defensively, he's physical and he's also pretty good with the puck, which actually surprised me. Considering that our two best d-men in White and Martin are injured, the acquisition of Salvador looks huge right now. Brooklyndevil 03-09-2008, 08:29 AM He get's better with every game. britdevil 03-09-2008, 09:22 AM Probably our best positional dman at the moment as Paul Martin is injured. Solid hits, nice stickwork, good shotblocking. With our current injuries the trade is looking damn good, hes also made Karel Rachunek look like a solid #4 dman the last couple of games. Salvador is dynamite and I hope he re-signs. Especially with White out, picking up Sal was a great move by Lou in hindsight. Das Uber 03-09-2008, 11:46 AM He's been playing well so far. However, I think Larry Robinson has been out with that sinus infection since he was acquired. Once big bird spends some time with him, he should get adjusted pretty well. Richer's Ghost 03-09-2008, 01:36 PM You can't have him back... :D He's solid and a man of few words - just how I like my D-men. (*see #4) On the flipside of that - how are you liking Cam? I watched a bit of the game last night vs. Vancouver and saw him out there doing his thing - wrecking ball on skates. DevilsFan38 03-09-2008, 01:49 PM I like him a lot. It always takes new defensemen some time to get adjusted to the Devils system, but he's looked pretty solid in the last few games. And with our top two defensemen (White and Martin) currently out with injuries Lou is looking like a freaking genius. GentlemanOfLeisure 03-09-2008, 03:07 PM Salvador is the most. He's dreamy. Richer's Ghost 03-09-2008, 03:09 PM At least he hasn't scored in our own net... :sarcasm: yakitate304 03-09-2008, 03:11 PM Love him, especially with Whitey and Martin gone. He's VERY tidy with the puck in our own end, whether it's clearing the puck efficiently or moving the puck out of pressure along the boards. I don't recall seeing him give the puck away in our zone at all. Also, coupling him with Marty's puck-moving skills, he makes it tough for teams to get into our zone for high quality chances. He knows when to step up and when to collapse and that's perhaps the first important decision for a defenseman to make every time it comes in our zone. He definitely makes our defense look better. Rachunek has looked awesome lately and I have been somewhat impressed with Mottau and Brookbank as well. I feared that without White and Martin we might be lost, but the boys didn't panic and they made sure Marty didn't have to stop rebounds. GentlemanOfLeisure 03-09-2008, 03:11 PM At least he hasn't scored in our own net... :sarcasm: Memo to the Penguins: That won't happen against us. I can't wait till we get in that ass against those ********ers. I hate the Penguins. I just wish Murray would insert him into the lineup everyday. wrecking ball out there for sure. rocketpop 03-10-2008, 09:38 AM NJ ***** St. Louis. Now you guys are seeing why we were so pissed off. Yes, Salvador is quiet, but he's vastly underrated. As far as how I like Janssen? He is the most useless player I've ever seen offensively, and gets out of position defensively. Even Tony Twist had better "O" than this guy. He doesn't even need a stick, because I don't think it ever touches the ice, unless it is for balance. Its no wonder he only has 1 point in 100 games. Its truly sad when DJ King makes someone look like a scrub on offense. He also makes a lot of "hits" that land about 2 feet in front of or behind the person they are meant for. Oooooohhh... You make that glass pay for what it did, Cam. He isn't even playing, and for good reason--he's a hack. This move is even more rediculous because he is the type of guy that Murray just doesn't play. He keeps all of his players on a short leash, and even King has been in the doghouse for fighting when he wasn't explicitly told to. In the games that he DOES play in, the whole 2 minutes of ice time he gets adds nothing to the team. Oh yeah--but he's from St. Louis, "So he'll be an instant fan favorite". britdevil 03-10-2008, 09:45 AM Oh yeah--but he's from St. Louis, "So he'll be an instant fan favorite". You guys, got absolutely burned. Janssen's a punk, and for us to get a good dman for him, is unbelievable. MoonDragn 03-10-2008, 10:22 AM NJ ***** St. Louis. I really think if somebody teaches Cam how to play hockey that he would actually do very well. I don't think anyone expects him to do anything but fight and thats the problem. I think he has some hockey skills there somewhere waiting to be used. Game Breaker 03-10-2008, 10:44 AM I really think if somebody teaches Cam how to play hockey that he would actually do very well. I don't think anyone expects him to do anything but fight and thats the problem. I think he has some hockey skills there somewhere waiting to be used. I'm sure Lou's main selling point of Cam was that he supposedly had a great training camp. I would try to harp on that myself if I were trading him. The best thing is that Lou trades a player and wants them to succeed and is classy about it. I'm happy that Cam was happy and I'm glad he will get a chance to play. We just didn't have room for him, thats all. fluffernutter mf 03-10-2008, 11:42 AM I really think if somebody teaches Cam how to play hockey that he would actually do very well. I really think Cam would have played well under Sutter. But I guess we'll never know. Clarkson Falls Down 03-10-2008, 11:49 AM I love Salvie so far. He's silently steady. I hope we can keep him around long term, but I see him maybe going back to STL next year. It's not like we gave up anything to get him anyway. Polaris 03-11-2008, 02:30 AM I love Salvie so far. He's silently steady. I hope we can keep him around long term, but I see him maybe going back to STL next year. It's not like we gave up anything to get him anyway. I think there's a better chance of him re-signing with the Devils than coming back to the Blues if your management throws a decent contract his way. The Blues have a small logjam on defense at the moment and really can't afford to sink anymore money into their defense anyway with the extension Jackman recently received. I think the Blues would rather give a guy like Roman Polak (who plays a similar game to Sal) a look than bring back Salvador. cmccallum 03-11-2008, 02:46 AM You guys, got absolutely burned. Janssen's a punk, and for us to get a good dman for him, is unbelievable. Yeah Lou won big time with this deal. MadDevil 03-11-2008, 05:59 AM Salvador reminds me a lot of Lukowich actually. He doesn't do anything great, but he gets the job done without making many mistakes. MoonDragn 03-11-2008, 10:25 AM I really think Cam would have played well under Sutter. But I guess we'll never know. Cam would have been better defensively under Sutter. However I think our main problem is we don't have a really good offensive coach. I don't have much confidence in Johnny Mac teaching our guys the offensive game. Usually people that are really good natural offensive guys have a hard time passing that skill to others. Devilsfanatic 03-11-2008, 10:57 AM Salvador reminds me a lot of Lukowich actually. He doesn't do anything great, but he gets the job done without making many mistakes. Except that Lukowich got better the next year for the Devils, he wasn't solid when he first got here and cost us that Carolina series by not shoving Staal out of the way. Salvador is better than Lukowich because it didn't take him a year to be as good as Lukowich was the next year. Buzz Killington 03-11-2008, 11:16 AM Except that Lukowich got better the next year for the Devils, he wasn't solid when he first got here and cost us that Carolina series by not shoving Staal out of the way. Salvador is better than Lukowich because it didn't take him a year to be as good as Lukowich was the next year. Yes, I have a lot more trust in Salvador than Lukowich. He looks like he has a clue when to play the puck and when to play the man. Salvador was scary the first couple games, but I was tying the noose for Lukowich after the Staal fiasco. He redeemed himself the next season. Let's hope that Sal doesn't take as long as Luko to adjust. He's off to a good start. Devils9789 03-11-2008, 11:23 AM Is Sal a UFA after this season? If so, lets hope Lou re-signs him before we start talking about his next season with us. Dialamo 03-11-2008, 04:48 PM You guys, got absolutely burned. Janssen's a punk, and for us to get a good dman for him, is unbelievable. I wonder if Lou was grinning like when he stole Parise in the 2003 draft when this deal went through. c-carp 03-11-2008, 04:51 PM You can't have him back... :D He's solid and a man of few words - just how I like my D-men. I am glad to see Salvador doing well. Speaking for myself I like Cam when he plays he forchecks very hard hits everything that moves and got an assist last night. I hope he forms bookend wingers on our 4th line with DJ King next year. ILikeItVeryMuch 03-11-2008, 04:52 PM I still miss Lukoil The Jersey Devil 03-12-2008, 08:59 AM Just FYI Blues fans, you were going to lose Salvador either way so Janssen is just a bonus. At the end of the season he is a free agent and the Blues weren't going to re-sign him so stop complaining about how Lou screwed you again. If anything, we lost a fan favorite for a rental that won't help us where we really need it, offense. Having 9 D won't do ***** if the team can't score a goal. Game Breaker 03-13-2008, 12:00 PM It was a very good deal by Lou...similiar to the deal I made the other day with a buddy of mine. I had a stupid yogurt bar that I bought that I wasn't going to eat, and I was able to get him to trade me his chocolate muffin. I did a good job of selling that bar, and after class, the professor commented on my bargaining skills. I think we all know what this mean...you can trade a yogurt bar, you can trade players! I think I will be next in line for Lou's job...:sarcasm: MoonDragn 03-13-2008, 01:13 PM It was a very good deal by Lou...similiar to the deal I made the other day with a buddy of mine. And although Cam is exactly the kind of player we needed, he was not when we have ten other grinders playing too. I didn't realize his checks were so sloppy...I mean seriously football would have been a better sport for him. Glad you all seem to like Salvy..he was a good player and great person to the community. Definatly earned points with me! P.S. I will be cheering for you all in the playoffs! rocketpop 03-13-2008, 08:49 PM Just FYI Blues fans, you were going to lose Salvador either way so Janssen is just a bonus. If anything, we lost a fan favorite for a rental that won't help us where we really need it, offense. Having 9 D won't do ***** if the team can't score a goal. Cam is not a bonus anything. He now takes a roster spot (for multiple years) to play very poorly for approximately 3 minutes a game, if he plays at all. As previously mentioned, when he does play, his hits are rediculously sloppy and it seems that almost all of them miss their target by two feet. Of course, that doesn't stop the announcers from screaming how amazing the "hit" was. On the bright side--he did have a point the other night, meaning he has already equaled his total for his first 100 games. Hopefully I'll grow to like him, and maybe he'll be able to contribute SOMETHING other than a poor fight and missed checks, but right now, he looks more useless than Rich Pylon. Only time will tell. | ||
