“I’ve got a couple questions for all the wiseacres and hockey geniuses out there who believe they can do my job better than I can: You think the game moves in slow motion when you’re down at ice level, the way it does on your fancy high-definition TV? You think it’s fun to show up for work every night knowing there’s thousands of voices in the stands ready to go shrill on you for the slightest perceived error?

Well, it doesn’t, and it isn’t. And until you work hundreds of hockey games at the minor league level to hone your craft, do my colleagues and I a big favor and leave the moaning to porn stars and politicians. Your co-operation in this matter is greatly appreciated.”

That guy is a complete tool. Yeah you know what pal, I can't ref an NHL game. You know why? I'm not a ref and I don't get paid to do so! I get paid to be a network engineer, and you know what? When I mess something up and bring down a client's network with 10 minutes left in the trading day, I have to answer for it, it's called being a professional.

These guys get paid to call these games, bottom line, when they F up, there should be some accountability. Yeah, missed calls happen like what happened in the Flyers game he alludes to, but I hate when leagues try to shield the refs from criticism as if they're infallible.

There's a line between whining and holding people accountable, a point that is completely lost on this guy, but it's not surprising as he writes for THN.

I could have sworn some minor league refs or maybe even NHL refs were calling up The War Room the other day. Very touchy on the subject

Individiaul Call are NEVER a problem....It's the inconsistancy in how calls are made that is the problem in the NHL today.

You see games where players are mugged and no call forthcoming...You see other games where players are barely touched and two refs have their arms in the air...Its almost to the point of commical.

The NHL is the most incosistant officiating in all of professional sports.

thats part of the job, it goes with the territory. do you think cops like getting shot at? no but they realize it could happen. you have to be tough mentally to be an NHL ref, and ot all of them are. some of them are pushovers will give the home team the benefit of the doubt because they dont want thousands of fans yelling at them and i think thats ********. thats when i get really angry with refs. i can understand missing a call here or there but to make calls so you dont get *****ed at is dumb.

so who ever wrote this....get over it. nobodys making them be a refs.

The worst thing possible would be if an official reacted the way that article described... and fortunately, the officials know it.

Just like a poor attempt to quell a heckler in a comedy club - you gotta either either ignore them or absolutely bury them. The refs cannot bury the entire fanbase.

You nailed it my friend. You should post this on the comment section of the article.

The NBA is far, far worse than the NHL in this. Most consistent is probably NFL.
