There's an article about Jim Dowd in USA Today (today March 6th). Obviously he's with the Flyers now, but he talks about growing up in Jersey and being a Devils fan. I always felt good about him being on the 95 team and coming back for another round recently.

Glad to see USA Today print something positive about New Jersey and hockey.

"Jersey Jim" always had great attitude.

Wish some of it could have rubbed off on David Emma.

"Let's face it, this is a kid's game, and I'm still playing. You'll have to tear the jersey off me."

- That's Devils Hockey right there. :thumbu:

Why are people lining up to rip us, as Devil fans? Even one of our ex-players who is from here is now doing it. I am getting sick of this **** and screw him. Just put him on the list with Trautpig.

"I've played in great hockey cities and the worst one, Jersey, I'm from there and we win a Cup," he said. "I could not ask for anything better."

Until NJ wins the Stanley Cup by playing flat out run and gun hockey, selling out every game of the season and playoffs, all the while leading the league in GF's, penalties and fighting majors, its going to be considered the bum-state of hockey.

AND ITS AN ABSOLUTE TRAVESTY!!!

Dowd said he and his high school buddies would buy the cheapest seats at the Meadowlands and move down to the front row, "because there was nobody there."

A time honored Devils tradition I'm proud to be a part of. ;)

There was also an Article in USA Hockey Magazine (march) about Dowd, and an Article about the Devils and Drafting Collegiate players, then one about Gomer and Breakaways...

Wasn't a similar article in the NHL.com Atlantic Notebook?....Sounds very Similar...

Well, it is a Flyers beat writer and there's commas involved.

We're not the worst, though, we're close. The worst is about 25 miles as the crow flies East of the Rock. Honestly, it's really only been a good market here maybe for a few years after the '95 Cup. We probably have more janitors in the press room than beat writers, and one of our three beat writer uses us as a running gag.

It's one of those things that the organization should look at and say "Why do people keep saying that? Are we doing something wrong?"

As for Dowd, he was here last year. It would be hard to say anything positive about the market last year. At all.

As a Brick resident I am shocked that Dowd would say that. Ill give him the benefit of the doubt that it was a misinterpretation.

Yeah, I'm going to give him the benifit of the doubt about that one quote as well, especially as he seems to talk about the Devils and Jersey in a positive light in the rest of the article.
