Super Score-O (Rant Warning)

So this rant has been LONG in the making, but tonight while watching the Duck/Hawks game a 7 year old took aim and put one dead center in the net in their version of Super Score-O, and it set me off.

I have this theory that the powers that be at The Rock seek out the 3 most unathletic people that they can possibly find in the entire building. Middle-aged women and 300lb+ obese guys in XXXXXL Stevens jersey, etc... They must stalk the funnel cake and pizza counters for contestants. You can tell if they have a chance as soon as they are given the stick, because most of them hold the stick with their hands WAY too close together AND too high up on the stick. I dont get it. Even if I had never played hockey in my entire life, I would intuitively know that having your hands 5 inches apart and all the way at the top of the stick is not the most efficient way to shoot a puck. Where do they get these people? I've only seen 2 people put one home this year and they were BOTH completely lucky. The 1st was early in the season when this lady LOFTED a puck about 3 feet off the ice and amazingly after about 4 bounces it went staight in, and the last one 3 or 4 games ago when the puck just barely made it through with its last dying breath (like the end of Caddyshack). I sit in my seat and I want to scream half the time. These people have less chance of putting one on goal than the average Devils defenseman.

You missed the best one of the season. Clueless buffoon has his hands upside down, shoots a backhander with hands up top, like you said, first misses 15 feet wide.

Second one catches a bounce and goes right on in.

He's in the finals. Hopefully the finals are at the Rangers game at the end of the season.

The very very lame shot taking ability of the people this season has prompted me and my dad to sign me up every game we go to now. So hopefully i get picked friday night to show everybody how to actually shoot a puck!

There is this guy (I see him a lot so I think he is a STH somewhere on the 225-233 side of the Upper Level) who takes a Score-O pad and fills them out at home and then stuffs the ballott box full with his entries. I've seen him do this twice now, and he wasnt picked at either of the games I saw him do it. :biglaugh:

I dont think I could survive the finals. I'm going to have to get up and do a lap around the building for that Rags game or my heart might explode.

I still think I could have won that million dollar challenge easily.

Wow, if there's been only two winners, I think I've been to both ones.

And you're absolutely right. Some of these people are absolute STIFFS. What's with the backhanding? Have these people been watching hockey?

Ditto.

Back to the topic, I've been signing up for Score-O for every home game since last season and still haven't been picked. Maybe I should write Trautwig and Fischler

There's been 3 or 4 that I've seen. One of them was a ringer. He'll win the truck(s)/car(s)/whatever.

There's a sign-up box next to the two SUV's by the fire lounge.

There's also one on the upper concourse, by the escalator and the shooting area.

Not always true, The guy sitting next to me got it in and we were watching scoro the next few weeks later when they had 2 fat guys and a girl holding it like a broom miss horrible, then an athletic looking girl walks up and takes a snap shot puck sails inches above the ice and lands right before going in, She had already turned with her hands up and started walking before it went in.

Anyone remember her? :handclap:

This was pretty amazing; the good stuff begins around 3 minutes in (couldn't find a shorter clip).

15 pucks in 24 seconds from far blue line for a cool $Mill. :naughty:

There is no way that score-o could be completely random. Nearly every person who does it looks like they are about to row a damn boat. They obviously pick people they aren't going to win, do you think they want to keep giving expensive crap away?

I make it a point to boo people who miss the net completely or short shoot it mercilessly.

Way back it used to be you were a score-o contestant if you had an autograph in the game program you bought that game. I never understood people who would buy the program, find the autograph and then send their 7-year-old kid to take the shots. Didn't they realize that they were p***ing away their opportunity to play for a car at the end of the season? I mean, if you are one of three contestants each home game that get a chance to compete for a car - your odds of winning a free car are hardly ever going to be better than that!*

*By "free" I obviously am omitting the requirement to pay taxes on your "free" car as if it was an equivilant value of income.

Got to hate the government! Thats weird though because my friend's brother was given a car (maserati) from his company instead of a bonus so that he wouldn't have to pay tax...I guess a contest is different...:dunno:

Kind of on topic but I am an assistant coach on a Jr. B team in Canada and every home game we have a Shoot-to-win (from the red-line) for $100 and each week we go without a winner the money gets added to the next week. We've had a number of contestants and none of them seem to be able to put it in so the prize has grown to $1,600 and one night an 8 year old kid stepped up and fired it through. The place went absolutely crazy. Kind of ironic a guy/girl that has been playing all their life can't put it away but a kid that probably just learned how to skate won it all.

Ive had a chance to do it this season, and let me tell you.. its about 1000 times harder then it looks. The ice is sooo bad at then end of the 2nd- there is piles of ice shavings all over, and once the puck hits that it changes its direction.

I think that 6 people won it so far this year, and they are giving away 2 cars!

I remember at the last Leafs-Devils game at the Rock, they had this one guy shooting who put BOTH hands at the top of the stick and used a shooting motion similar to a golf swing.

Needless to say, the puck never got close to the net either time.

A lot of the time, people miss wide one way, then overcompensate and shoot wide the other way. Its very annoying to watch, at least get it on goal once!

I got picked for Score-O at the Devils-Flyers game back in December, and I hit the black trim around the hole :(

I actually play hockey, too (although I'm a goalie).

That was like the second time I even tried entering this season, and the PowerPlayers came and found me in my seat before the game even started to tell me I got picked.

The only thing I'm happy about is I was the only one to go that day that didn't get booed!

On the upper level concourse, right when you get off the escalator theres a table on your left where you can fill out your name and put it into a box.

There's a table where you can sign up for it on the lower level concourse, right by the two brand new cars you could win on April 6 if win at Super Score-O that night.

There's also a table on the upper level, by the shooting thing. The Devils Mastercard people and Fan Club have tables nearby.
