Veela 03-03-2008, 03:31 PM Question from Czech fan : How would you assess Eliasīplay so far ? Is his lower production a matter of how this team is playing generally ? From the outside it seems like after he battled that strange virus from Russia, his play is not what it used to be. But i lack the insight of regular fan.
Thank you.

He's healthy, he's trying, but he lost that game breaking ability he used to have. He can still skate, shoot the puck hard and make some nice slick moves to get around defenders but it's all very inconsistent. His physical edge is almost obsolete now. I remember a time when he used to lay out some pretty nice hits out there.
It's also quite clear from his play that his confidence level is up and down.. some days he shoots the puck constantly and is leading the offense, some days he's scared to shoot it. He's been deadly in overtime this year though.
He's playing the best hockey since he first came back from illness (where he was dominant) but he's still only half the player he was then.
ILikeItVeryMuch 03-03-2008, 03:39 PM Off and on, flashes of brilliance from years past combined with flashes of absolute miscues.
The talent is there, we all have seen what Elias can do, he is a dynamic player, but sometimes he just overthinks, like what happened on some of the breakaways hes been given this year.
I dont think his illness effected him, because when he returned in 2006 he played some of the best hockey he has ever played. I still got faith in the guy, and I always want to see him playing for us.
vadvlfan 03-03-2008, 03:46 PM I think he was most affected by losing pos gomez. Lou still needs a playmaking cneterman. there's not many of them left i nthe real world. I'm sure he'll look into it this summer. There is nothing wrong with patty.

That honor would most definetly belong to Gio. He hasn't been the same player since.
As for Elias, he's mostly hot and cold. Beginning of the season he was ice cold, but his overall game has picked up from that point. He still shows flashes of that A-line briallance that we loved to see, but yet sometimes you forget he's out there on the ice. I also think he's been hurt by the constant shuffling of the lines that Sutter has done. Elias should stick with Parise--both were playing well together.
AfroThunder396 03-03-2008, 03:55 PM He's starting to pick up the pace now. He was horrible at the start of the year, but has been doing better since he changed to center. He's obviously a very streaky player. I believe has 21 points in his last 18 games, but 0 points in his last 3. That pretty much sums up his whole season, although he has played much better in the last two months.
fluffernutter mf 03-03-2008, 03:57 PM He's streaky, but looks a lot better then last season. He's just getting over his Julien-itis.

Haha I read that as Juilen-****
Game Breaker 03-03-2008, 04:08 PM He still definitely has the ability to be a game breaker, he just needs to play with some skilled players to utilize his talents, like Parise.

Not a game breaker? Then why does he rank 3rd in game winning goals? He has 7. I think winning 7 games (not counting SO winners) makes him a pretty good game breaker.

Ahhh Claude was always good for a post-loss suckle. *shivers* I'm gonna need a lot of therapy to get that image out of my mind.

Regarding those stats, whats the breakdown in terms of Regulation, OT, Shootout? Cause I don't think he has that many in regulation.
I consider a game breaker the guy you base your defence around for 60 minutes a game.. not the guy who scores in the extra 5/shootout. I did point out he was deadly after 60, but he's hardly a game breaker before.

He's definitely not the same player, but he's still my guy, even if he went to the Rangers and played like crap I'd hate him for going there. Glad he's still a Devil.

Same here, just wish he came about 3M cheaper :)
Veela 03-03-2008, 04:22 PM Great points, guys, thank you very much. Itīs apparent hockey culture in USA and Canada is at pretty high level and this is a great source of informations. Actually, Iīve been doing play-by-play of Avalanche-Devils final series in 2001 for Czech television, doing interviews with Stevens, Mogilny, Rafalski, Elias, Sykora and other guys. I still have pretty fond memories of East Rutherford and the whole Devils hockey.

Not for nothing, but I'm going on a Eurotrip next year and it would be awesome to meet up at some point and talk hockey. Sure, I'm the only one who is interested in hockey out of the 4 of us going, but hey, they will just have to wait for me since I am the one pulling the connection on a travel agent. ;)
StriderTB 03-03-2008, 04:46 PM Ahoj Veela! My wife is from the Czech Republic, nice to see another Czech Devils fan. :)

Elias was struggling in the early past of the season and was not doing all that much. Since Elias has been moved to the center position he has done a lot better. He has almost a point in every game since he has played center. Elias has 17 goals and most of them are from the center position.
None Shall Pass 03-03-2008, 04:52 PM He needs a veteran playmaker with him.

Is that you, Patrik ? :)

Sure, no problem, I was always big fan of meeting across hockey community, and share experience. I also want to travel across Canada ;) Iīm from Prague, itīs basically close to every hockey rink from here.

And yet your team is still in first place. It really just boggles my mind, and infuriates me as a Ranger fan. The Devils defy logic.
Darius Dangleaitis 03-03-2008, 06:17 PM If Patty stays at center next year and plays the same way, you will see a 70-80 point season from him. He's been playing extremely well.
Sutter NEEDS to keep him and Parise together though. I could care less if you signed Gionta's little sister to play on their right wing, they just need to be together.

Stefanie is already playing in Lowell.

Or better yet, Sutter's mom.
