Per TSN ice chips today, Paul Martin was a healthy scratch last night? WTF? Anything true? I was under the impression that he was your #1 defanceman.

No, not true. He was out because he was banged up and resting his injuries. And yes...he's our #1 defenseman. There's no doubt there.

Undisclosed injury. NOT a healthy scratch. Martin hurt his hip earlier in the season and keeps tweaking it, but Lou typically gives zero info on injuries -- partly to avoid the opposition hunting to re-injure -- so this went from the typically vague "lower body" injury to no info at all.

Paul Martin has been our most solid defender all season, and has even managed to make Johnny Oduya look good in the process, so this is not a punishment or some coaches decision. This is an injury.

Me too, on the Hockey Night in Canada, they said that the Devils had no changes to their line up and then Rachunek and Brookbank come out on the ice. You would think they would mention if our #1 defensemen was too hurt to play.

Martin was hurt because he got hit by Salvador during practice.
He then got crunched by Brashear during the Caps game.

Brashear put a dirty late hit on Paul late in the 3rd period Friday night.
I saw it and knew he would be banged up.
