Question regarding Brodeur

How much longer do you think he'll play? I notice he's signed until 2011-2012. Do you think he'll play out his contract? At a high level still?

Has he ever hinted at retiring or, conversely, hinted at playing for 3 or 4 more years?

Thanks.

He will undoubtedly play out his contract. His skill level hasn't decreased at all, and his style does not put much wear and tear on his body. I think he may play another year or two after the current contract, but thats just my opinion.

Unfortunately, I disagree. I don't think that he is seeing the puck or reacting to lateral movement nearly as well as he used to, and I think that other teams recognize that too, and are throwing a lot of pucks through traffic. He might play out his contract, but I don't think he'll be playing nearly as many games.

As much as i hate to admit it, but last nite when he made the first move on one of the shootout goals made me realize he might be on the decline, either that or just a bad read by marty

So I'm guessing that Brodeur has no intention of retiring soon?

He's not gonna pull one of those "Oh, I've accomplished all I've wanted to in my career, I think it's time to hang 'em up" things in like 2 years?

Nope. Marty is a team first player and would never handcuff the Devils organization like that.

Marty will play until it's physically impossible.

he may not be the same Young Marty with the fast reflexes but what he now lacks in speed he makes up for in experience. If you look at Marty's stats he's actually gotten better over the years, not worse.

He's stated in his book that this will probably be his last contract and he intends to play it out.

i think he will play out his contract, maybe resign another year, hit 700 and call it quits....:yo:, Best goalie to play the game....hands down

Marty is still awesome, and will be. Crop circles are Marty's way of telling the world that sometimes corn needs to lie the F down. Also, one time a cobra bit Marty's glove hand. After 5 days of horrible pain, the cobra died

So I'm guessing that Brodeur has no intention of retiring soon?Chico Resch has said that he and Marty talked about the way Hasek is playing into his 40's. Marty did say that he wasn't planning beyond his current contract though.

Brodeur will turn 40 on May 6, 2012, which will be during the playoffs of the final year of his current contract.

700 wins or bust!Marty is on pace to finish this season with 537 career wins. He would need to average 41 over the final four years to reach 700. That's certainly difficult, but it is not impossible. If he were to play a year or two after this contract, which is still younger than Hasek is at the momment, Brodeur would have a decent chance to surpass the 700 Wins mark.

I've seen this argument before but it doesnt explain how he's a better goalie now than he ever was.
