AgentM 02-04-2008, 08:56 AM That is fantastic! Karma finally caught up with the Pats and I love it :)
Devilsfanatic 02-04-2008, 08:57 AM They had two books made, and put them on pre-order. I never saw the beef here really......you know there was a Ducks Stanley Cup Champs hat made in 2003 don't you? Or a Devils back-to-back champs hat made in 01. I've seen both.

yeah, it's funny, but I'm just saying, it's not like they did it to be cocky.

But I always thought stuff like the hats and t-shirts were done by the league. They need to have one for each team, otherwise they wouldn't be ready in time for the presentations etc.

Yeah, they are, but this "perfect season" book was made as an idea, it wasn't published, written, or anything. SI was probably planning one too to be honest.

'03 was the year they made a Conn Smythe Trophy with Martin Brodeur on it, wasn't it?

Actually, from the Devils side we had a lot of candidates. Brodeur, Niedermayer, Langenbrunner, and Friesen. It doesn't matter however....who won the Stanley Cup that year?

They should have, considering he had better cup final stats than Giguere.
Didnt Eisner set up the plates and napkins for the Ducks 03 cup parade?
JLHockeyKnight 02-04-2008, 10:59 AM I'm personally glad the Giants won. Even though they're a rival of the Eagles and I HAVE to hate them, I hate them less.
Now that the Pats blew it, ESPN can shut up about the Pats. That, and the NE area as the Pats, BoSox, and Celtics all doing exceptionally well. It's about time someone shut down their arrogance.

Leagues make hats and stuff like that all the time. My friend's mom worked for a company that manufactured those hats and t-shirts for pretty much every major sport, so he had a bunch of losing teams championship apparel lying around his house. But we're talking about a book from the Boston Globe, it's not even from the NFL. They were just that cocky.

This is a great moment for the NFC as a whole. It gets so disrespected in comparing to the AFC in recent years...and yeah, it's justified, but the fact that an NFC team could do this opens up the gates a little bit more.
If any of the teams I hate (Eagles, Cowboys, Redskins) played the Pats, I would root for them any day of the week.
DANCIN'WITHJANSSEN 02-04-2008, 12:11 PM What a game! I'm not even a Giants fan(was rooting for them yesterday even though they "had no chance") One of the best Super Bowls ever!

Actually, that was one of the WORST Super Bowls I have ever seen. Crappy half time show, crappy game until the last 3 minutes. I still can't believe Eli shook off 3 guys tugging his jersey, heaved a pass into double coverage and completed the pass thanks to an amazing catch.

I could rattle off a dozen Super Bowls that were far worse than that I can remember. I'm just glad we didn't see a blowout like we did in so many superbowls from the 80s and early 90s.

What does the half time show have to do with the game?

Well I think you guys are about to get Steve Spagnuolo, so you're welcome ;)

We can't let Spagnuolo go. Fire Coughlin and promote him.

youve seen more than the past two correct?
how about the 2000 giants superbowl where ineptitude was the name of the game?
while not the best, it was a tightly fought tense game that isnt shown in the score. and tom petty was much better than the music of past years.

I'm gonna put it this way...his defense certainly was the biggest reason we won. So you gotta ask yourself, is it about winning or about notoriety? Sure he could get promoted to HC but that's not going to make him worth a good god damn. He now has the task of repeating it with his defense...does he leave that behind for more money and a bigger position?
(Redundancy), which might be off, but might not be....if Strahan comes back for another season, he stays on board. Strahan retires, like I think he will, Spags leaves for a HC position if it's offered.

Spagnuolo waited a pretty long time (8 years) to get his shot at being a defensive coordinator and he has shown what he can do. Also, it is not as if the Washington is an awful team (in fact they have a pretty good D of their own). Why does becoming their head coach mean he isn't interested in winning. The Giants weren't exactly world-beaters last year.
Maybe he stays, but he is as hot as he will ever be.If a good team with an improving QB asks you to be their HC for a ton of money, you would be silly not to take it, especially after waiting 8 years to be a coordinator.
Strahan won't have any effect on Spagnuolo will do as Strahan isn't making any decision until the end of training camp. Spagnuolo will need to make a decision in the next day or two if he gets offered the job.

I think you slightly misconstrued what I was getting at. Quite frankly, Washington has a lot of assets defensively (sans the dead guy now) and most years Washington puts out a very stout defense that's always hard to play against. Of course that usually entails stealing ex-giants over the years like Armstead, Banks, Griffin....you get the picture. haha.
Honestly, just like the start of this season, I don't think the Giants are going to be a powerhouse team next season either. I think they might be better, but we often get completely paralyzed by injuries and the fact we had so many young guys step up and take charge is really what helped us the most.
We had a dream season as the underdogs and that dream pretty much ends after the Pro-Bowl is over.
My point about Strahan is that, he's a coaches player. I know there were quarrels in the past with Coughlin and whatnot, but beyond that he's a guy coaches love having. I understand the whole waiting thing for Spags but the truth is, not every DC or OC translates into a good head coach. That's also something to think about, does he want to jump the wagon after a highly successful season to a HC position when he's just in the infancy of really being in charge of something important?
I just think that Strahan might be at the point in his career where, he's now got it all...he's done mostly everything a DE can possibly do, he's easily a HOF'er and if not...well as it was said on Sportcenter last night, the voters don't deserve to have that kind of a job. I think he might only want to play for Spags now defensively, and I could see that impacting both of their decisions possibly.
Overall, I think Strahan is just going to call it quits now as he's dealt with the pain and hardships enough to this point. But I think that could be the decision-making process as well.
But I'm not saying it isn't about winning, I'm just saying...theres a lot more to it than that (in a very incoherent manner).

Apparently someone hasn't been watching ANY of the half time shows. Rolling Stones sucked all hell. The Janet Jackson incident season, the performance was horrible, Paul McCartney was boring as hell. At least Tom Petty did a spectacular performance. I was hoping they'd finish off with a 5th song, they seemed to shorten Running Down a Dream a lot just to fit it in though.
