What do you think the Devils would have to give up to land one of these defensemen?
Classic Devil 01-31-2008, 04:13 PM O'Brien isn't for sale unless we're going to massively overpay, which we're not. Boyle would come for a first and a prospect. Clark depends on Colorado and where they are at the deadline.
fIREnIcE 01-31-2008, 04:15 PM obrien its nbot going to happen....he has been great on the bolts and they got lucky...youve found this out already on the main board.
What we looking at....lou is going to pull deal thats going to fly under the raydar no cambell no boyle maybe a jackman but def a no risk high reward deal.....Obrien is a good example, comrie was a good example, lukowhich was a good example....sorry guys were not going after a number 1 dman here unless its stuart who has been underperforming(unless he signs or go deep/win playoffs im not willing to pay the asking price of a market thats overpriced
Colin Whites Eye 01-31-2008, 04:17 PM i would like boyle, but he'll cost a 1st +
fluffernutter mf 01-31-2008, 05:04 PM Wonder if we could get Boyle for maybe Gionta plus? If not, I'd rather wait until the off season to try to sign him.
DevsOwnYou 01-31-2008, 05:13 PM Rob Blake and Boyle in separate deals
Colin Whites Eye 01-31-2008, 05:18 PM screw Blake, we do not want anything to do with him
Das Uber 01-31-2008, 05:19 PM screw Blake, we do not want anything to do with him
Yea, he's the bag of a ******.

throw in a first round pick for the next 3 years and you got a deal.

Do we at least get a case of beer or something?

c'mon we're not THAT stingy, you can have some Newark Microbrews, and maybe we'll throw in a box of knishes.
Ronnie Bass 01-31-2008, 08:57 PM I said it once I'll say it again - Keith Ballard.
Hellsempire 01-31-2008, 09:11 PM Rob Blake period. Just won't happen though. He likes to play in the western Conference for some reason. Would he come east to a SC contender like the Devils? One only wishes here.
Or
Brad Stuart from Boston.
Adam Foote from Columbus.

Who you giving up? He will cost you big time. He has big-time game. BTW, I've heard he's very close with Martin. I believe they are neighbors, and they may share the same agent as well.
Brad Stuart from Boston.
You're one year and two teams late.
I don't want Rob Blake. Makes major defensive blunders, and seems to have an attitude.
Darius Dangleaitis 01-31-2008, 09:17 PM I said it once I'll say it again - Keith Ballard.
I think Phoenix would be a little too picky about who went the other way.
Clarkson Falls Down 01-31-2008, 09:21 PM Total pipe dream, but I'd love to see Dustin Byfuglien from Chicago. But they're not going to give him away.
Muttley 01-31-2008, 09:32 PM I said it once I'll say it again - Keith Ballard.
Hmmmm....Neal & Aaron Broten, Tom Chorske up to Paul Martin & Barry Tallackson.
I like it and Lou really likes those Golden Gophers. ;)
Devilsfanatic 01-31-2008, 11:12 PM Anaheim really made out well in the 03 draft, I mean ya, they traded O'Brien for a bag of pucks, but:
Getzlaf, Perry and O'Brien.....I actually shudder to think that Anaheim's defense could've been even more impressive with Shane O on the team.
Niedermayer-O'Brien
Pronger-Beauchemin
Schneider-O'Donnell
Like geez ****ing louise.

They wouldn't play Shane O'Brien as a real top pairing dman, Burke had defenseman who could play a ton of minutes and traded Shane O and a 3rd for a 1st round pick. Not a bag of pucks IMO.
But yeah, Anaheim had an awesome 03 draft. They got amazing value at 19 with Getzlaf, traded up to get Perry at 28, got a late round steal in Shane O'Brien in the 8th round. They even got a nice player in Drew Miller in the 6th round.
daveskirtun 01-31-2008, 11:23 PM Who's this Niedermayer guy I keep hearin about from Anaheim?

They got Gerald Coleman who is a bag of pucks, and that first was nothing good.

Gerald Coleman's nothin special, but I wouldn't have minded the 19th pick last year. Sure it looks like a weak draft, but it's certainly worth something. I think it was a very fair deal for Anaheim. Shane O'brien still needs a lot of rounding out, I don't think that highly of him myself.
Sorry for the semi-OT tangent.

He has a thing for guys who played college hockey in general. Parise, Zajac, Gionta, Madden, Pandolfo, Pelley, Greene, Martin, Mottau, not to mention the guys in the minors. I wonder how much "friendly" betting goes on in the Devils locker room when the NCAA tournament rolls around?
Speaking of former college players, I'd like to see former Sioux Matt Greene in a Devils jersey, although I doubt the Oilers would part with him lightly.
britdevil 02-01-2008, 04:14 AM Probably a pipedream, but with Phaneuf likely signed, Kipper and Iginla, Calgary are gunna need to clear cap after this season (win now mode), what would you guys think about getting Robyn Regehr... By trading him they can sign one more of their forwards.
Stud on the blue line, would be an automatic #1 dman on this team, in a similar mould to Scott Stevens. He can pass too, and is one of the best Pk'ers around...
Would he be had for Greene, Gionta and a 2nd???
Martin - Regehr
White - Oduya
Vishnevski - Rachunek

I'm not sure I'd want to give up that much for Regehr, as good as he is.

It does seem like overpayment, but with a stud like him back there, it would give Martin more space to work some of his offensive magic...
Hes being held back by Oduya's flawed offensive game IMO... Having to cover for his stupid mistakes.
We could probably get him for less, but couldnt think of anything they would want!
EDIT, when did you change ur username??? Pretty cool!!
BenIgnorant 02-01-2008, 09:17 AM I'd love Regehr and he'd be an awesome addition. I'd happily give up Gionta, Greene and a 2nd. That's not overpayment. He's one of the best defensive dman in the NHL and he puts up respectable though insignificant (averaged ~22 points per season last 3 years) offense.
We would still need an offensive dman though, and we would then need 2 more scorers. I'd still do it because it's an obvious upgrade.
Unfortunately, the Flames would not. Regehr signed a 5 year, 20.1 mil extension this summer. That's a great price and long term, too. He's a guy they keep, unless they can get multiple solid players who are cost controlled for several more years. Gionta is a UFA after next season and makes as much as Regehr will. Greene hasn't proven himself and wouldn't come close to replacing Regehr. So no dice from the Flames perspective.
