WHEN?: Saturday, January 5th, 2007...6:00 PM PT.
WHY?: I don't know.
WHAT?: Duck's Regular Season Record: 21-17-5...47 Points/Coyote's Regular Season Record: 20-18-1...41 Points.
Previous Matchups Between These Teams: The Ducks lost 4-3 last time to the Coyotes in the SO. The Ducks are 1-1-2 against the Coyotes this season. :(
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Duckies are coming off two wins (of the lackluster affair) and look to continue this streak against a streaking Coyote team. Ever since the Yotes acquired Bryzgalov, they have been playing very well. Can the Ducks beat their former netminder? We will find out TONIGHT!!! :) :yo:
BTW, for those betting folks out there that aren't in Las Vegas, please click this thread to bet your vbux on tonight's game http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=461667 .

I just recalled it (probably the only trivia I have ever gotten), because they were both on a fantasy team of mine, and I didn't understand the trade.
Theridion 01-05-2008, 06:15 PM Important game tonight...maybe Bryz will let in a patented softie for old times sake tonight.
The only thing worse than playing against Bryz, is starting Hiller against bryz...
Ducksforcup 01-05-2008, 06:16 PM The only thing worse than playing against Bryz, is starting Hiller against bryz...
I think that Hiller is starting to adjust more to the North American ice surface. His last few games, he has looked very good. (Except that one goal against Vancouver...otherwise solid).
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 01-05-2008, 06:26 PM I'm kinda hopin Bochenski will get a shot tonight. Maybe throw Marchant on the checking line, have Sutherby center the fourth line and throw Bochenski on there for some potential scoring depth.
Static 01-05-2008, 06:30 PM Sit Sutherby for one game....he really doesnt contribute anything. At least Carter can win faceoffs and Marchant can play the PK.
karacter 01-05-2008, 06:39 PM ya but that is like saying sit parros cuz if he doesn't fight he is useles...which isn't really the case cuz atleast sutherby hits someone every shift and plays with some damn energy the team is lacking. he is playing like he wants to stay in the starting lineup.
snarktacular 01-05-2008, 06:39 PM It's also possible Hiller will be in net. Who knows if Jiggy's flu-like symptoms are gone or not. I'm thinking Bochenski will get a go. Fresh legs for the back-to-back kind of thing.

Hiller played a really solid game against Chicago though, so I am hoping he carries that confidence to tonight's game. I miss the days where we could be playing against Phoenix and it'd almost be a given 2 points, its a different story this season though :(.

Parros is in for 'protection'....his being in the lineup actually has implications. Sutherby, not so much.
MOENing 01-05-2008, 08:13 PM Go Ducks I'll be watching.
Static 01-05-2008, 09:14 PM Great deflection by Getzlaf.
Bochenski getting his chance at the expense of Bobby Ryan....
Mooseduck 01-05-2008, 09:22 PM Didn't Crosby beat Great One to 200 points?
snarktacular 01-05-2008, 09:28 PM Radio for me today. Severyn talking about how the Ducks have been better at not taking penalties. Halfway through this, Carroll interrupts and says "And now Huskins takes a penalty."
byungshin34 01-05-2008, 09:57 PM How has the team been playing in the 1st? I notice that the Coyotes have quite a few shots against us? Do we actually have our legs moving this game? Also, how has Bochenski been doing?
Static 01-05-2008, 10:04 PM Terrible breakout leads to the tying goal.
Static 01-05-2008, 10:05 PM And then Phoenix does the same thing.
Static 01-05-2008, 10:07 PM Niedermayer looked bad right there.
Static 01-05-2008, 10:11 PM what the hell is going on?
Static 01-05-2008, 10:15 PM And here comes the even up. Wow. Maybe if the refs didnt **** up the first time they wouldnt have to do this.
iHATEbeauch23 01-05-2008, 10:16 PM god even though we have two goals our offense seams to be a non-factor
Static 01-05-2008, 10:17 PM Is KDOC really, really choppy for anyone else?
iHATEbeauch23 01-05-2008, 10:19 PM kdoc has always been horrible. i can't stand watching their games
Static 01-05-2008, 10:28 PM Stupid penalty leads to a goal.
Fighter 01-05-2008, 10:28 PM And they tie it again.
Static 01-05-2008, 10:29 PM Nice shift by Bert.
Static 01-05-2008, 10:30 PM Nice shift by Perry as well. Bobby Ryan can learn a thing or two from him about puck possession and recovery.
snarktacular 01-05-2008, 10:32 PM Is this the quietest GDT ever?
The radio was talking about what "illegal substitution" is. It's basically too many men on the ice, but when there is no player coming off within 5 feet of the bench.
Ducksforcup 01-05-2008, 10:32 PM Just got home in time to see Phoenix's tying goal. :shakehead How has the game looked?
Ducksforcup 01-05-2008, 10:39 PM Perry is awesome. I just wanted to say that. :)
Theridion 01-05-2008, 10:40 PM Perry/Getz have looked good... not a very exciting game though.
snarktacular 01-05-2008, 10:53 PM Beauchemin has been on ice for the last 6 goals against. This includes this game, and the 3 prior games. Niedermayer was also on for 5 of those 6 goals, all except that last PP goal.
How's Bochenski looked? Weight scored a goal, that's good that the 2nd line did something.

Invisible. Niedermayer isnt right....he doesnt look good when he is out there, I think he holds back until the very end of the game because he doesnt have much strength/energy right now, or is just plain hurting.
Static 01-05-2008, 11:05 PM The Ducks are still trying to win this game 2-1...

It's sort of expected. Everyone's in midseason form while he's just starting. Which should be a rebuttal to all the "Burke planned this the whole time" conspiracy theorists. Same would go for Selanne if he comes back.
I guess the question is, is Bochenski's invisible better or worse than Ryan's visible, but mostly because he's easily stripped of the puck?
Duckstudd269 01-05-2008, 11:07 PM What are the lines?

Ryan at least makes some stuff happen on occasion. Bochenski so far reminds me of Mark Mowers.

Theridion 01-05-2008, 11:14 PM The first 12 minutes of this period might have been the most boring hockey of the year.
snarktacular 01-05-2008, 11:16 PM Will this team ever score a 3rd goal?
Static 01-05-2008, 11:18 PM Great play by Kunitz.
Theridion 01-05-2008, 11:21 PM Will this team ever score a 3rd goal?
3rd period passing has been horrible. Don't know if its the ice or what.
Joe Canada 01-05-2008, 11:22 PM Will this team ever score a 3rd goal?
I somewhat prefer these types of games to the 6-5 shoot out the lights type we've played against the Coyotes before.
snarktacular 01-05-2008, 11:27 PM I somewhat prefer these types of games to the 6-5 shoot out the lights type we've played against the Coyotes before.
Well this is the type of game we have to play, we simply cannot count on scoring 6 goals. It would have to be some kind of fluke game. But we can't count on being able to only score 2 goals and win either. It's getting to the point that I'm not expecting them to score again. If we win it'll have to be the shootout.
byungshin34 01-05-2008, 11:29 PM We keep turning over the puck and can't seem to generate offense these last few minutes.
Duckstudd269 01-05-2008, 11:30 PM Bert-Getzlaf-Perry

thanks..
wow we bench Ryan after one of his best games of the year.
Duckstudd269 01-05-2008, 11:32 PM how's Bert looking on the twins line? I'm glad to see him on that line.
Static 01-05-2008, 11:40 PM Kunitz has been the best Anaheim player tonight...
Theridion 01-05-2008, 11:42 PM yay shootouts...
byungshin34 01-05-2008, 11:43 PM Shootout...
Joe Canada 01-05-2008, 11:43 PM Wow, Ducks are .500 in the SO this season?
snarktacular 01-05-2008, 11:44 PM thanks..
wow we bench Ryan after one of his best games of the year.
Actually I think Ryan had a subpar game last game. All I can remember is him getting stripped of the puck like 3 times, and a pass play that I missed but I heard the announcers liked. It was the Columbus game where Ryan was good.
Interesting note: when we thought Giguere sucked at shootouts (early in this season), I had looked up the numbers and Giguere was actually better than Bryzgalov at the shootout. Although Bryz hardly had any attempts. So this may be a good thing.
Static 01-05-2008, 11:44 PM Bochenski is going to shoot.....interesting. Bleh, Bert misses.
Static 01-05-2008, 11:45 PM Horray for not moving!
Joe Canada 01-05-2008, 11:46 PM Horray for not moving!
You know what? It doesn't matter one bit if the Ducks shooters are this inept.
Static 01-05-2008, 11:46 PM thats the game...I dont think Giguere stops this next one.
Static 01-05-2008, 11:46 PM thats the game...I dont think Giguere stops this next one.
and Im wrong...come on new guy.
Static 01-05-2008, 11:47 PM And he shoots right into the goalie.
byungshin34 01-05-2008, 11:47 PM Lame.
Joe Canada 01-05-2008, 11:47 PM So... we gotta stop going to shootouts against the Coyotes now that we've forgotten how to beat our ex-backup.
ivan09 01-05-2008, 11:48 PM Hmm sorry guys. I really thought bochenski would score.. I guess not.
Fighter 01-05-2008, 11:48 PM SO loss, pathetic.
I miss Bryz...
iHATEbeauch23 01-05-2008, 11:48 PM i already hate bochenski with that piece of **** shot
bryz is going to be the new ducks killer
byungshin34 01-05-2008, 11:50 PM Brian Hayward says as a plus that we only let in 2 goals. That's all well and fine until you realize that we haven't scored more than 2 goals in the past 4 games.
snarktacular 01-05-2008, 11:51 PM Bah. Getzlaf is so money in a shootout-like situation when he skates in from the blueline in a normal game. But for some reason he can't do it in shootouts (1/8). Hurtfloozy just plain sucks, why was he even in the shootout? I guess Bochenski was put in because Bryz doesn't know him, but that wasn't a particularly impressive try.
It seems like the team can only score 2. That's all they've done recently. 3 is this magical plateau, only reachable if we're letting Calgary score 5.
Theridion 01-05-2008, 11:52 PM We're good enough to almost beat pheonix... not a good sign if we end up against Detroit round 1 of the playoffs.
iHATEbeauch23 01-05-2008, 11:53 PM im going to go out on a limb here and say we are going to score 2 goals against nashville. That or get shutout.
It's taking scotty a while to get back to speed. Considering he was a better player than teemu it makes me think that teemu's return won't benefit us at all. I guess he could stand on the ice and draw defenders away from other players.
Mooseduck 01-05-2008, 11:53 PM Berlousy and Bo? - wasn't Hiller available to take a shot? :sarcasm:
snarktacular 01-05-2008, 11:55 PM We're good enough to almost beat pheonix... not a good sign if we end up against Detroit round 1 of the playoffs.
Well that's actually consistent. They're good enough to beat a decimated Chicago 2-1. Phoenix is probably a slightly stronger team, so we lost 3-2 in the shootout. Nashville is ever so slightly worse than Phoenix (Phoenix is 7-2-1 in the last 10! They seriously owe us for Bryz), so we'll probably win 3-2 in a shootout.
Yay 4 (loser) point!
sammyp 01-06-2008, 12:24 AM Seriously, Bochenski is awful. Ryan better be in the lineup on Monday. Without him, that second line just can't seem to create any kind of offense.
And what's with ALL the hate for Bertuzzi? He played a good game and actually showed a lot of intensity and emotion.
Roshole 01-06-2008, 12:29 AM [QUOTE=bryz30;11911893]im going to go out on a limb here and say we are going to score 2 goals against nashville.
That's pretty funny... we should have a thread guessing when we will score more than 2.
McDonald19 01-06-2008, 12:29 AM Bochenski is definetly not the top 6 forward we are looking for. He will be waived soon.
Get Ryan back in there until Teemu comes back.
I can't see this team having any success in the playoffs, let alone making them, with all these 2 goal efforts and this caliber of talent in the lineup. But hey, at least we aren't giving up more than 2 goals per game!
But I suppose we can hope for some offensive explosion if Selanne comes back. Also, the past two games have severely lacking a fight.
Le sigh.
Ducksforcup 01-06-2008, 12:53 AM A point on a back-to-back situation is pretty good I suppose.
I am not too disappointed.
BraveSirRobin 01-06-2008, 01:01 AM I'm getting a bit tired of losing these one goal games (even if they're sometimes in the shootout). Seriously, when are they finally going to wake up and start playing to the team's ability? It really doesn't have to do with the other team playing well as it does this team not clicking. I don't know, I just think this team should be doing a hell of a lot better than what they're doing right now. They need a fire lit under them, and they need it NOW.
Bochenski, we hardly knew ye.
Theridion 01-06-2008, 01:27 AM Only thing we're really missing from last year is our 29 goal and 48 goal guys (i think that was their total)
Face it, we lost a lot of goal scoring.
Yes, Perry/getz have been doing great this season, but production everywhere else on this team has dropped to zero.
I vote they sit Perry/Getz for a couple games. Let em go to the bar or something else.
Ducks 01-06-2008, 01:56 AM We are definately one of the most under achieving teams in the league considering our line up this season.
Chone 01-06-2008, 04:35 AM At least Perry and Getzlaf are awesome. I wouldn't worry about our defense. I would worry about every other forward though. Rob Niedermayer and Ryan Carter are the only other forwards showing consistant effort as of late, but they aren't the most talented players.
Is it just me or is Moen not playing half as good as he was during last years Stanley Cup run?
I think taking Ryan out of the line-up is a bad idea, unless it was just so he doesn't have to play back to back games and maybe put some doubt in his head that his job is safe.
5minsforfighting 01-06-2008, 06:09 AM Didnt see the game, but how did Sutherby looked out there?
Pwnasaurus 01-06-2008, 11:41 AM Didnt see the game, but how did Sutherby looked out there?
He prolly had his best game of the year, though that's not really saying much. 4th line has looked good of late.
5minsforfighting 01-06-2008, 12:32 PM He prolly had his best game of the year, though that's not really saying much. 4th line has looked good of late.
Its good to hear that. I think he needs just a little more ice time to prove himself completely. I feel there is some potential in him, just needs to shake off that injury bug.
karacter 01-06-2008, 03:34 PM carlyle had him out there killing penalties too, just on a side note.
McDonald19 01-06-2008, 04:12 PM Is it just me or is Moen not playing half as good as he was during last years Stanley Cup run?
Agreed. I used to be a big fan of his game but now I'm thinking he would be a good player to trade in the offseason (maybe even this season's trade deadline) for a draft pick to get his 925,000 off the books for 08-09 and make room for Carter.
Lyons71 01-06-2008, 06:25 PM Well, if you took mcdonald's abilities to score away, you get Bochenski. YAY!!!
This team plays like a bunch of old ladies. They get pushed around.
caliamad 01-07-2008, 01:40 PM I agree we need another top 6 forward and we should stop trying to go the cheap route (Bolcheski, that other dude off Boston, Sutherby)...
but our defense is a lot better last year, our 4th line is better than last year... we're 1 top 6 forward away from really breakign through...
1 point in 2nd game in 2 nights is not so bad, I thought we did well against Phoenix.
SOs are the bane of our existance so a loss there is not too suprising.
Bolcheski looked awful... AWFUL!!!
