Ti-girl 01-04-2008, 03:58 PM The weak passes along the boards are KILLING the US. 3 foot passes NEED to be made. UBCsalmonslayer 01-04-2008, 03:58 PM Mason = big game goaltender. brownman* 01-04-2008, 03:58 PM McGuire: Eat me, Mason was good enough etc Yeah just good enough to not let a goal in through the first 52 minutes lol Klaus* 01-04-2008, 03:58 PM Good for Canada. Tavares, Turris, Stamkos and Marchand have all played well. weezman 01-04-2008, 03:58 PM and the meltdown is complete. Bravo Canada. Best of luck in the gold medal game. Team USA disappoints yet again. :shakehead Ground And Pound 01-04-2008, 03:59 PM Mason almost lost his shutout there LazyD 01-04-2008, 03:59 PM lets go Canada! Shut em out! Spawn 01-04-2008, 03:59 PM I agree with whoever said it last thread, Marchand has been really good this game. Its about time. Ronald Pagan 01-04-2008, 03:59 PM Mason's been a wall. That should shut Bernier's tantrum up. HitByWitt 01-04-2008, 03:59 PM there you go Kyle.. why the hell couldn't they do that all game. Ti-girl 01-04-2008, 03:59 PM Wow Great work by Mason. Charlie_Girl 01-04-2008, 03:59 PM The 3rd Canadian goal looked like it was offside, when they showed the picture of Sutter's skate and Legein. If it was onside, it was very, VERY close. ***... JVR is on the bench??? Why? UBCsalmonslayer 01-04-2008, 03:59 PM I wonder where this Canada has been the entire tournament. We always save our best for the Americans. Vic Rattlehead 01-04-2008, 03:59 PM I must say, kudos to the Canadian team in shutting down the top two US lines. I thought the US offense might have been too good for Canada. Great to see Mason having an excellent game. OHLArenaGuide 01-04-2008, 03:59 PM The different today, Mason was good ENOUGH, Smith wasn't I suppose that's as close to an "I was wrong about Mason and made myself look foolish" as we're going to get from you... so I'll take it. /hat tip Jimmi Jenkins 01-04-2008, 03:59 PM Mason = big game goaltender. Yeah, lets not go nuts, alot of credit go to the Canadian defensecore. Specifically, Subban, Godfrey and Pyett not playing much. FLYLine24 01-04-2008, 04:00 PM JVR and Okposo have been MIA Agree. Both have been terrible. And Okposo thinks he's ready for the big league? Hopefully they at least show up for the Bronze medal game. chaosrevolver 01-04-2008, 04:00 PM Im happy they actually showed up today. I was scared after the first 30 seconds. But really, why isnt McDonagh there? EDIT: 4-1 JVR. Uhoh! Fish on The Sand 01-04-2008, 04:00 PM Oh, I was planning on watching the 3rd period, I suppose there's no need to? HitByWitt 01-04-2008, 04:01 PM there are some signs of life.. this is the best they played all game. (and it started with the Okposo shift thank you very much) at least make Canada sweat a bit that's all i ask for at this point. Riddarn 01-04-2008, 04:01 PM Hooray, USA scores! Not that it matters for the outcome of this game though.. FlyHigh 01-04-2008, 04:01 PM van Riemsdyk's best shift of the game and he scores, where was that earlier? Hopefully the Sweedes will bring a good game to the table. edit: US scored, if they get another one real quick, they may just make it interesting. #1KaberleFan 01-04-2008, 04:02 PM You're soooo funny. I'm pretty sure you're an uneducated redneck as well. He has been sticking up for the americans the whole game. He is being sarcastic. Golden 01-04-2008, 04:02 PM Lets shut them out Canada! Zim 01-04-2008, 04:02 PM The decision to pick Palmer over Unice seems to be getting worse. Unice would have at least offered a legitimate alternative to Smith. Ground And Pound 01-04-2008, 04:02 PM Good for JVR, but come on Mason, you have to be better then that. I wish someone would teach him to get the **** off the ice. Maybe Ray Emery could do that :sarcasm: Buffalo87 01-04-2008, 04:02 PM exactly. It's people like you that make the rest of the world hate Canadians and their cockiness when it comes to hockey. I thought they were the prohibitive favorites going into this game, at least according to the vast majority of Americans on this board. Huh!Alright come on Canada showed up. The American team hasnt played even close to what they have showed they could play. Every team has their good games and bad games. How bout Canada's meltdown vs Sweden? Were they not favourites in that game? Teams have their good games and bad games. Canada is finally showing their stuff and the US was due for a bad one. Unfortuenatly for them it came in a very important game. SENSational 01-04-2008, 04:03 PM Good for JVR, but come on Mason, you have to be better then that. Canadian defense has done an incredible job against them and the weaknesses of the US defense and Smith were exposed. Reemer has good speed and great hands for a man his size, he's a really good passer. PatTraverse 01-04-2008, 04:04 PM I want Canada to let the US tie se we can have an exciting finish like last year. whatthef 01-04-2008, 04:04 PM at least the shutout was ruined. brownman* 01-04-2008, 04:05 PM It's people like you that make the rest of the world hate Canadians and their cockiness when it comes to hockey. lol kids macondo 01-04-2008, 04:05 PM Four minutes... Seriously, if you think he played great today, then you don't remember what great at this tournament is. Mason has been good enough. He's made the saves he's had to and has made some good saves as well. However, he's going down too early and too often, his rebound control has been aweful and he doesn't track the puck well. Again, he has played well enough, but more credit should go to Schenn, Alzner, Doughty and Hickey for being excellent today, expecially Schenn. Buffalo87 01-04-2008, 04:06 PM I'm still waiting for this one softie a game.:sarcasm: macondo 01-04-2008, 04:06 PM Three minutes... PuckGuy0218 01-04-2008, 04:07 PM I want Canada to let the US tie se we can have an exciting finish like last year. Seriously? Josie Grossie 01-04-2008, 04:07 PM A minute and a half to go! I wish someone would teach him to get the **** off the ice. Jesus dude what is your problem? Did Mason run over your dog? Not call your sister after or something? You've ripped on him in what is probably 100 posts in 3 days and can't even say hey, he played a great game (You're the only one by the way). Accept it. Irving was cut. Mason was a smart choice by Hartsburg. Just give the kid even a slight amount of credit. gorrillaunit18 01-04-2008, 04:07 PM No, stop *****in about the game. I think Mason picked on him when he was a kid. BenIgnorant 01-04-2008, 04:09 PM Bah, USA has shrunk like a violet and their poor d and goaltending have been exposed. Has the US ever done well at the WJC when favored? Good game Canada, wish it could have been a classic like last year. Again, he has played well enough, but more credit should go to Schenn, Alzner, Doughty and Hickey for being excellent today, expecially Schenn. The D should definitely get a ton of credit. Mason has been ok but as you said, he's been tossing out weird rebounds and has looked very scrambly at times for no reason. But at the end of the day, he got the win again. At least this time it wasn't in spite of him :) BigE7 01-04-2008, 04:09 PM An American talking about the world hating another country? What comes around goes around, chump. This makes absolutely no sense at all. Hennessy 01-04-2008, 04:09 PM Mods, do the rest of us a favor and hand out some 24-hour bans. PatTraverse 01-04-2008, 04:09 PM Seriously? Yes.I was expecting much more from the big bad US this year but it all turned out to be just hype once again. Last year they weren't that good during the round robin but managed to survive and played a hell of a game against Canada. Charlie_Girl 01-04-2008, 04:09 PM Atta boy Mason! Keep it up! I'm actually cheering for the US in this tournament. Canada thoroughly dominated the first two periods and being the defensive juggernaught that they were there was no way the Americans were coming back from a 2 goal defecit. That being said I was certainly not expecting the US to totally fall apart at the start of the 3rd. Ground And Pound 01-04-2008, 04:14 PM Mason , MVP of the game. Whitesnake 01-04-2008, 04:15 PM Takes some pretty big nerves for Mason to pull a performance like he did today. Lots of critics about the starting job, traded from your junior team, while he wasn't extremely put to the test, he did a great job. Thought Bernier should have get the game, doesn't mean that I thought Mason is a slouch. Always said he would be a steal of his draft year. Sweden will be much tougher to beat boys, but you bring it like you did today, and it should be just fine. Telecaster Fanatic 01-04-2008, 04:15 PM Im looking forward to a good game tomorrow. It was entertaining and disappointing at the same time. Perhaps because the first minute of play was so very good and then the US just went downhill. Oh well.. I hope Sweden can make a game out of it tomorrow but regardless of Swedens effort I'm pretty sure Canada will win if they play like they did today. YogiCanucks 01-04-2008, 04:15 PM coaughwaacckkkkscooohwaakkkk What's that? The sound of the American Junior team choking yet again =p GG USA! It was exciting. thomasincanada 01-04-2008, 04:15 PM <jimmi jenkings mode on> Mason was terrible ! If Irving were in net the score would have been 5 - 0 as Irving has never let a goal in at the World Junior Championship and he also would have scored one in an end to end rush during a delayed penalty !! I tell you Canada will never beat Sweden with Mason in net ! </jj off> Seriously, though.. Great game and Mason proved himself today. Can we please lay off the US / Canada bashing. There are dumb people in both countries folks. SkipToMyLucic 01-04-2008, 04:15 PM Guess ya learn something new everyday. Never knew there was a New York north of Kingston, Ontario. There is, part of NY is northwest of Kingston. But neither your or my post was completely necessary then was it? Le Golie 01-04-2008, 04:15 PM Completely different Canadian team today. This game was one-sided. Jarret Stoll 01-04-2008, 04:15 PM ''one more baby, one more!'' team canda player during anthem.:handclap: OHLArenaGuide 01-04-2008, 04:16 PM Canadians - and I speak as one myself - can be real jerks about hockey. Sorry to all the Yanks here about some of the posters here, they don't seem to realize that Canada isn't the Mayor of Hockey. Our arrogance is pretty annoying. That said, I'm thrilled we won, and thrilled Mason proved his doubters wrong. Like I've said all along - he's a great goalie and he'll lead us to gold. jk421* 01-04-2008, 04:16 PM The BEST part of this tourney has been the Player of the Game awards. My. God. :amazed: Winston Wolf 01-04-2008, 04:16 PM Okposo would've had a great game if the object of hockey was to shoot as many weak, unscreened shots from the top of the circle that have absolutely no chance of going in. It seemed like the American game plan was to shoot from anywhere, even when they had opportunities to try and advance it to the front of the net for a real scoring chance. Mason was good, but he never had to be great. The Americans had plenty of useless long range shots, but very few actual dangerous scoring opportunities. Credit to the Canadian defense for that. UBCsalmonslayer 01-04-2008, 04:16 PM O Canada!! Is it just me or did the Canadian flag look like it was strung up on an oversized coat hanger? :shakehead nyrfan444 01-04-2008, 04:16 PM great game Canada, you proved why you've won this thing so many times good luck against Sweden BigE7 01-04-2008, 04:16 PM ....why sing the anthem after a non-medal winning game.... Checker* 01-04-2008, 04:16 PM no it wasnt, not from the replays I saw anyway. It was technically but 1. It was offside by so slight of a margin that only seeing a frame by frame slow-mo replay picked it up. 2. The shot that the play resulted in was very saveable for a decent goaltender 3. It really didn't matter. The US weren't going to win today regardless. dru 01-04-2008, 04:16 PM Good game Canada.... Great job Steve Mason. :handclap: benji 01-04-2008, 04:17 PM Agreed, the girls are the best part about this tournament. Who knows, maybe the winning team gets a girl each as a prize?. Till next time..... Fish on The Sand 01-04-2008, 04:18 PM Yes.I was expecting much more from the big bad US this year but it all turned out to be just hype once again. Last year they weren't that good during the round robin but managed to survive and played a hell of a game against Canada. I honestly think the schedule hurt them. They hadn't played since Monday and I think the rust really showed in this game. dmacgreg37 01-04-2008, 04:18 PM ....why sing the anthem after a non-medal winning game.... Technically, Canada did win a medal today (10th year in a row btw)...just not sure which yet. madbox 01-04-2008, 04:18 PM Big fan of Bernier- though disappointed with his recent attitude... the team winning is more important. The love for Schenn seems to be even higher than the Helm/Russell love of a year ago. Maybe on a Toews level come to think of it. Nothing will ever top Pierre's love for Dion and Sid the kid. BigE7 01-04-2008, 04:21 PM Are you serious? Completely. In pretty much every international competition (and I only say 'pretty much every' because I don't know of any instance besides what just happened), the champions get their banner raised and anthem played. Not the team that just guaranteed themselves at least 2nd place. Fish on The Sand 01-04-2008, 04:21 PM Nice win boys! Now maybe all the Hartsburg haters can take a step back...(I know they will just find something else to focus on....) like imminent gold. Josie Grossie 01-04-2008, 04:22 PM Guess your a product of the American school system. You're. Guess you're a product of the Canadian one. Such an entertaining game, the Americans got a bit unlucky a few times and it cost them, there is nothing to be ashamed of. If both teams played each other 10 times, it would probably be a 5-5 outcome. They do it in EVERY game...even the prelims. It's actually awesome. I was at the tourney in Vancouver, and it's great for the fans. Teams like Slovakia (whose fans travelled really well to Vancouver), get to give their fans a chance to hear their anthem with pride, and everyone can snap pictures, etc. It's a great show of respect.
