Being in the freaking U.S., I am only getting to watch the playoff games of the WJC. So I just want to get a better idea of who is playing well for each team. So for those of you who have watched more than a few games, I'd love to hear your top 5 players+goalie(so really 6:3F,2D,1G) from the teams you have seen. If you can mention the games you saw in reference to your list...that would be great too!

I'll give this a try:

Russia Top 5(from watching Russia vs Czech Quarterfinal):
Tikhonov-Filatov-Korolev
Voinov-Alexandrov
Bobrovsky

Czech Top 5(same Russia vs Czech Quarterfinal):
Frolik-Voracek-Meidl
Boruta-Jordan
Neuvirth

Canada Top 5(from Canada vs Finland Quarterfinal):
Mathias-Stamkos-Tavares
Doughty-Godfrey
Mason

Finland Top 5(same Canada vs Finland Quarterfinal):
Aaltonen-Puustinen-Lucenius
Kousa-Jalvanti
Sateri

Sorry if I got their positions wrong...the WJC site doesnt list forward positions, just says "F".

Otherwise not so bad, but remove Kousa and add Lehtivuori. Kousa was not even top three D in my papers.

Säteri and Helenius were quite even, but maybe it is fair to say that Säteri won by a nod due to his 7,5/8- performance against Canada. Helenius was, however, excellent against Switzerland and got a shutout against Kazakhstan. In general neither of them were able to be the savior of the team and both let some softies against "big countries", but were suffering from the lack of support from the bad D.

BTW, Coach Rautakorpi and team management chose Lehtivuori, Puustinen and Lucenius as the team´s best players.

He played well against the Fins, but on the whole, Doughty hasn't been that good.

Although Korolev is a tad too useless with the puck for consideration as far as my tastes are concerned, it is Alexandrov's inclusion that I must adamantly disagree with. He has been absolutely awful; the worst Russian defenceman. His grievances include being a turnover machine, an incapablility of holding the zone, rather poor defensive zone coverage, and directing every single shot from the blueline at the shins of an opposing player for a rush the other way (to the point of one cringing when he winds up).

well, this brings up a good question then...who is the 2nd best Dman on the Russian team? i think Voinov is clearly the best...but then when I look at the rest of their D, no one really stands out.

also, who would you add over Korolev to the top 3 Forwards?

I actually really think its between Kurbatov and Seleznev for the title of best Russian defenceman this tournament with Voinov in third. As for the three forwards, I personally gave preference to Tikhonov, Filatov, and Bodrov in the top five I posted. Cherepanov I see as the next most deserving candidate.

Haven't seen much of the tournament in general, but would the forwards for team USA be something like:

Van Riemsdyk - Ruegsegger - Okposo ???
