I'm getting a new celphone, going Rogers. I decided to buy the Sony Ericsson because I didn't like the Blackberry look. Not to mention I hate the key layout.

The only negative on the Ericsson seems to be the buttons have cracked for some people. Anyone else have similar problems?

What model did you buy? I have the W810i and love every bit of it. Sony Ericsson has to be one of the best makes for cellphones IMO, not too mention the best software with the phone too.

I go the W580i ... I had read some reviews before i bought it but realized they were for the W810i... where the 580i isn't exactly getting great reviews. So i'll probably take it back.

I'll be getting a 3 year contract, I have no problem with Rogers, I don't exactly have too much choice in providers.

The curve is damn expensive. I rather get the pearl.

But I rather get the Ericsson over the pearl. I'm just trying to get some input on the 580i vs the 810.

What are you going to use the phone for ?

The Blackberry Curve and the Sony Ericssons in question cater to different demographics IMO.

The Pearl (8100) is a mixture of both, but it is a better email device than it is a multimedia consumer device.

The W810 and the W580 are essentially the same phone in different form factors. The music (WALKMAN) software on the W580 is better, but the W810 has a better camera (autofocus + flash).

From what I heard the W580 has pretty bad quality buttons that tend to crack.

Camera isn't exactly a big deal to me.

All I really want is MP3, good quality reception and fairly good battery life.

The early versions of the S500i("fashion" version) and the W580i had problems with the keys cracking.

SE rectified that problem and all the current Rogers stock has no issues with the buttons.

If you want MP3, good reception and good battery life, then it is the phone to get. Esp, since Rogers is giving away 8GB cards with the phone.

Do you work for Rogers? I admit the 8GB card is a great bonus, I just wanted to make sure everything was fine. Considering I heard W810 was better.

One thing I don't like is the fact the W580i buttons are so small.

I have the pearl and love it. I have no issues typing as the AI is pretty good and almost never makes a mistake. Sound quality is good along with the camera and other add ons.

i got a blackberry 8700 and love the phone. downside to my phone is no mp3 player or no camera but i can do without both those features. i dont like the camera on most phones ive seen and when i used it on my last phone i ended up deleting 2/3 of the pics i took because they didnt come out that great. i have a media player already so i have no need to load mp3s on my phone either. i browse the internet on it and it has a huge screen and a full keyboard.
