I'm considering buying a new monitor for my computer, but I'm not overly sure what to get.

I'm looking at spenidng maybe 250 max, (I'm in Canada btw)

The monitor I have now is a 17 (I think), how much difference would a new 20 or bigger monitor make? would it be worth it?

Thanks

it depends how much time you spend on it. I personally bought a 19" acer from staples a few years ago for like 197 with taxes; and i cant see myself needing anything bigger

Look into Samsung monitors, they're awesome. I have a 20" now and I love it.

Get a 22" or a 20", where are you from in Canada? Yes, it's worth it.

Canada Computers will be your best deal if you live in SW Ontario...

I'd recommend either the Samsung or LG's at that price range. I know Future Shop has this one for sale as well:

I own two of them and love them.

I think I prefer a regular 19 or 20 inch monitor to a 20 inch widescreen. I don't know if it is an optical illusion but the 20 inch widescreen lacks enough height that it bothers me. I have a 19 inch regular at work and a 24 inch wide at home, and I've gotten used to both; put me in front of a 20 inch widescreen, and it takes some time adjusting for some reason.

If you go widescreen, I'd suggest going for the 22 inch, they are $265 to 350, depending on the model. The jump from 20 to 22 is not bad, the price difference is greater for the extra 2 inches from 22 to 24.

The 22 inch widescreens are at a good price point right now.

I found once you go widescreen, it's weird to go back (and forth). I use widescreen monitors at work, and my laptop is widescreen as well, whereas my monitors at home are 5:4 and 4:3 - I wouldn't mind a nice 22" widescreen myself, in addition to the added resolution bump.

I don't what to make of Westinghouse, but I like their specs on this 24":

Acer monitors get good ratings on newegg as well.

I have this LCD and I can't complain (it was around $280 when I got it like 3 years ago, and I've also had the power inverter die, but their warranty support is good), but I would probably get an LG, Samsung, or Acer next to replace my 17" CRT):
