What are everyones impressions of Shawn Matthias? Has he exceeded expectations or underacheived? I can give my own opinion out but is very much biased considering Shawn is one of my favourite players out there. Now ive also not seen 2 games (Denmark and Finland). So any help with how he has played in those 2 games would be greatly appreciated.
From what ive seen he has played well both offensively and defensively. He has been unlucky with the fact that he has been robbed several million of times by the post or the goalie. He has 2 goals and an assist through 5 games but sometimes stats dont tell the whole story.
Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

He's a very good Pk'er and a good scorer.
Potential: Second line Center with about 60-70 points and great defensively in NHL.

He's met my expectations, which is something I can't say about too many other guys on the team. He hasn't been outstanding or spectacular by any stretch but IMO he's done his job. His play at both ends is solid and he's done well cycling the puck down low. I don't see him putting up more than 60-65 points in the NHL but I do think he'll be a solid #2/3 guy down the road. I'd like to see him be more physical though, that would be my only complaint. He's the biggest forward on the team and some added physicality would be nice IMO.

He's been a solid complementary guy - should be a quality bottom 6er in the bigs.

Always liked him as well. Was excited to see him available for our 2nd round pick....until he was picked 2 ranks before and we ended up picking Maxwell.
As for Detroit is concerned, great trade, even though I like Summers, that these swap picks ended up to be. They got Emmerton and Matthias out of that swap. Pretty interesting for them. As if they needed it....
I like what he brings to the net when he goes there, but he's been invisible at times.

He reminds me of a less physical, more skilled version of Milan Lucic.

I think he's been one of the top 4 Canadian forwards so far, along with Tavares, Turris, Stamkos. Although, I do think he's been a little behind those 3. He'd have to be the next guy, right ahead of Gilles, and then a bunch of guys like Giroux, Legein, who have been there, but disapointed somewhat so far.

Quietly he's been very effective.

He's the type of player that you can tell will be a NHL'er one day. He's got enough offensive upside to be a possible 2nd liner down the road, but from the way he skates and drives the puck to net, it's safe to say he'll at least be a 3rd line type.
One of the more impressive Canadians players so far.
