It looks like Brent will be the assistant coach of the All star game. Hopefully the Devils win the next 2 games to make sure of it. It goes to the coach of the team with the best winning percentage by this Friday.

That's awesome. Nice for a rookie NHL coach.

yeah that would really be amazing. Have we ever had a bench boss in the All-Star game before? At least while they were ON our team?

Awesome. That's a great honor for him. Maybe a Jack Adams is next in line.

While I don't think he'll like taking backseat to anyone, this may be a good experience for him. He'll get a chance to see the thinking process behind the Ottawa coach and why he's winning and maybe formulate a plan to beat them when we face them again.

yeah but how serious is the all-star game? you got the best names in the business out there...and everyone's just having a good time. I don't think he'll be doing too much brain picking, considering he has more overall success than does Ottawa's coach.

Plus, I think that as a rookie coach, he'll be honored to be even an assistant coach. I think it's gonna suck him into this league and make him want to stay for a long time.

Ya, he'll see that Ottawa has one line with 3 superstar players on it that can score at will. That's what we should do.

I think we had Larry Robinson at one point, maybe Pat Burns but we have.

Considering the number of times the team finished first or second in the eastern conference, especially in the late 90s, we must have.

Surprisingly I think the only other coach from the devils to coach an all star game while with the organization is Larry Robinson in 2001.

have you ever seen an all-star team ride the bike, if they lose?:sarcasm:

If thats true, then that means Sutter is the only coach since 2001 that has gotten us 2nd in the Eastern conference over the winter break. We must have always come from behind every year to catch up.

Sutter has been doing a pretty darn good job so far, he was a very good choice by Lou...

Smart move last night by calling the time out during that 5-3 PP...... it worked too!

Sutter is the primary season that we arent battling to stay above .500, hes been awesome, when most HF posters wrote the Devils off back in september. He has been a true enigma for an aging philosophy around these parts!!

I have no doubt that if Lou can make a big splash in the off season, Sutter can land as a 4th cup next year!

Well I did a quick calculation and neither the Rangers nor the Penguins can catch up to us by Friday at this point. So Sutter is definately going to be the assistant coach for the all star game.

Well, I think Marty is the primary reason, but Sutter's a big help as well obviously.

On ESPN news they had EJ hradek and Barry Melrose on and Hradek said that Sutter was his Jack Adams winner at this point in the season. He also said that when BM went to Newark Devils fans wanted him to suit up on D the blueline corps is so bad.

But Montreal can. I don't know if they use a 'wins tiebreaker' (if they do, the Devils have already clinched), all I've ever heard is that they use "percentage of possible points earned", and if the Devils emerge pointless tonight, their PoPPE will match the Canadiens' exactly (47 in 40, for a .5875 PoPPE).

In which case they will pick the Canadien coach, just because its a Canadian team.

I'm not sure how the calculations work, if it is all games played up to friday or all games played including friday. If it is the former then we are 2nd because the NHL breaks ties by the team with the lower amount of games played. If it is the latter then we better not lose this game tonight.

If we do have exact games played and points then I think they go by whoever has more wins. which would be us.
