The Mad Crapper 01-01-2008, 03:13 PM The commercials play out sorta-like they did for Jurassic Park years ago. They get you hooked, but don't tell you much about it.
The monster appears to be Cthulhu. But my guess is as good as anyone else.
feerlessleadr 01-01-2008, 03:15 PM Both my girlfriend and I are very excited to see this movie even though neither of us really have any idea what it if going to be about
Darius Dangleaitis 01-01-2008, 03:19 PM I'm pumped to see this movie. These kind of movies are always cool and it seems like they put an interesting spin on it.
What the hell is the monster called? I've never heard of it.
Colin Whites Eye 01-01-2008, 04:17 PM im definitely going to see it...especially since its by JJ abrams
ive heard that its godzilla, but thats just a rumor and i dont think so
ClaudeLemieux4HOF 01-01-2008, 07:18 PM Im actually a bit pumped for the movie too - i was lookin around and apparently brooks was motivated to make a monster movie cause his kid would ask him for godzilla toys when he went to japan so he got the inspiration to come up with his own monster for the movie
Devils9789 01-01-2008, 08:27 PM The marketing teams for cloverfield are geniuses
fortheloveof666 01-01-2008, 09:14 PM I just saw the previews, it doesn't seem too good, so I guess I'm the only one uninterested. :shakehead
TomLaidlaw 01-01-2008, 09:36 PM I will most likely go see this movie just because I am a huge oldschool Godzilla fan (not the Matthew Broderick Godizilla, that isn't godzilla). However, movies that are hyped like this almost never live up to expectations. There have been so many rumors about what the monster could be, ranging from a giant Lion to Voltron..lol. I almost hope the monster is something just ridiculous that annoys the viewer. Like a giant ill tempered Panda Bear or a rabid Kitten.
Das Uber 01-01-2008, 10:51 PM I will see it. JJ Abarams kicks ass. I can't wait until Lost comes back on.
ILikeItVeryMuch 01-02-2008, 08:12 AM Cant wait, its obviously going to be an alien of some sort since the movie was once named "The Parasite" in its rough draft stage.
MoonDragn 01-02-2008, 09:50 AM Dunno what monster it is going to be but the monster sounds a little like Godzilla. I would have loved a Gozilla movie with more suspense like this instead of the pathetic disaster that Matthew Broderick got stuck with.
Richer's Ghost 01-02-2008, 11:37 AM ... instead of the pathetic disaster that Matthew Broderick got stuck with.
LOL
He said yes to the project. Scripts weren't exactly dropping in his lap back then either...
I want to see it just because the entire movie is filmed first person and to pull that off in this genre is going to be interesting. I wonder how many cuts from the camera getting 'paused' there will be...
JimmyDevil 01-02-2008, 12:06 PM yea im totally pumped to see this...apparently the thing sheds its scales and those things come alive as well....i just hope the ending isnt cheesey...
TB Sheets 01-02-2008, 12:19 PM They've kept the monster's identity/origin/purpose pretty tightly under wraps.
I think this movie could go hard in either direction (good or bad). Unfortunately I 'm reminded of the Matthew Broderick Godzilla movie when I see the previews - and that isn't a good thing.
fortheloveof666 01-02-2008, 12:32 PM yea im totally pumped to see this...apparently the thing sheds its scales and those things come alive as well....i just hope the ending isnt cheesey...
so basically it's going to be a giant one of these:

The Cloverfield "monster" that has been circulating the net, which sheds killer "whale lice" not scales, is apparently a well drawn "fake" done for an internet contest... But I have attached the image none the less, although odds are 100% this ain't the monster...
You can read more about this guy's drawings, as well as watch the longer Russian trailer and more at the below link:

Enjoy, nerds! Enjoy!
MoonDragn 01-02-2008, 12:47 PM Wouldn't it be funny if at the end you find out that it was all due to a terrorist gas attack that caused mass hallucinations in the city. There was no monster, it was all in their minds.
The Jersey Devil 01-02-2008, 01:43 PM I like the whole monster within a monster idea. That's actually an original idea.
Devils9789 01-02-2008, 01:49 PM Some of the background of the movie is about a drink slusho and the people who have drank it
MoonDragn 01-02-2008, 02:13 PM Some of the background of the movie is about a drink slusho and the people who have drank it
There we go... Maybe its the slusho causing the halucinations.
JimmyDevil 01-02-2008, 03:30 PM its really Georges Laraque

def with!
Brodeur4Vezina 01-02-2008, 04:13 PM I heard the monster was Chris Simon, but thats just a rumor.
åboriginal 01-02-2008, 05:28 PM so basically it's going to be a giant one of these:

hahaha.....awesome
The Mad Crapper 01-15-2008, 08:31 PM Leave it to an accomplished artist who attended an early screening of the movie, to go ahead & create artwork of the creature off a snapshot from his camera phone.
Friggin' D-bag.
Nonetheless, for those who want to see the monster, here it is:

horrible. I'm not big on monster movies so I shouldn't talk, but I mean it CAN be interesting if done right. That thing looks ****ing stupid.
I would have enjoyed a giant gremlin. That would have been great.
Richer's Ghost 01-15-2008, 09:54 PM it's a giant tick?
lightsout 01-15-2008, 10:00 PM Wasn't that thing already in the movie The Relic?
britdevil 01-16-2008, 04:06 AM Should of been a giant Chico, terrorising the local walmarts and such!!
"Hotdogs, hotdogssssssss"
But seriously, that thing looks terrible, :shakehead
SilverSeven 01-16-2008, 05:36 AM The "whale" one looks pretty cool.
I wouldnt put much stock in any of the rumours going around though.

The Mad Crapper 01-16-2008, 09:34 AM saw this movie last night, it was awesome
So was this the creature?
JimmyDevil 01-16-2008, 09:52 AM So was this the creature?
eh, somewhat i guess...its not really spiny and some features are slightly different like the tail looks more like a tadpole/fish in the movie and theres not that many teeth and the ones that are there are bigger, the head is more compact than that and the sacs on its face are higher up.....

So, not exact, but close enough. Good enough.
As long as the movie was good, that's all that matters!

my opinion the actual monster is cooler than the pic.... oh if you get motion sickness, idk if this movie is for you the entire thing is through a handheld camera of a guy documenting the night so theres a lot of moving around

See I cant buy this, sure its written as being filmed through a handheld camera, but they would of used an amazing high spec new camera, with latest steadying technology. Obivously thats not gonna kick in if the guys running along, but just filming, it would be no different than any generic modern action film (see Miami Vice).
Im sure its fine, people just assume its gunna be really shaky like the BWP. Sorry if you think i flamed you too, I didnt, I just dont buy the motion sickness thing.
JimmyDevil 01-16-2008, 10:29 AM no its cool, and your totally right...to get the quality and perfect lighting all throughout its not "realistic"....but it is as shaky as BWP, the entire film, and they even throw in the camera auto-focusing from time to time

In that case, it sounds like it could be a problem. Ive heard that the best thing about this film is the score, apparently the sound of the monsters, is absolutely amazing.
How was the sound??
JimmyDevil 01-16-2008, 10:41 AM monster sounds like godzilla meets t-rex
britdevil 01-16-2008, 10:44 AM monster sounds like godzilla meets t-rex
Yuck, you would of thought they would make something original. Im guessing its like the generic "scream-roar"???
I loved the sound in War of the Worlds, the sound the tripods make, made hairs stand on the back of my neck.
That actually really sucks if its just that generic crap again.

yea i was expecting some cool off the wall bad ass sound....even a high pitch deffening sound would have fit better
scalan15 01-17-2008, 06:00 AM Hey guys, you should be warning people of SPOILERS before you post, don't ruin the movie for others.
Niedermayer21 01-17-2008, 07:24 AM I hear the monster attacks Manhattan. Hasn't NYC suffered enough?
First the terrorists destroy the City. Now a movie attacks it.
Go after Peoria. Or Newark. ;) Just leave The Rock alone!!!! :)

I was thinking more like Paterson, Camden, Irvington or the Oranges. ;)
I just read the plot spoilers and it sounds like the retarded stepchild of the Godzilla movie with Matthew Broderrick.
goin2hell 01-17-2008, 11:23 AM Any chance this thing crushes MSG while the Rangers and Islanders are playing??
Game Breaker 01-19-2008, 11:39 PM I think I may have seen a preview for this movie when I went to recent movies with my friends, but nothing on tv. I saw it tonight without really knowing anything at all what it was supposed to be about.
***SPOILERS***
It was weird, no real ending. The very last scene of the two of them on the ferris wheel, one of my buddies noticed the alien falling into the ocean, and he told us right after he saw it and since no one else did, we thought he was crazy. Well, went right back to his house and saw that the alien actually did fall from the sky that day a few weeks prior. The way it was filmed actually did keep my interest. Overall, I didn't think it was terrible, but I like closure, not a fan of movies just ending like that. I mean, I did realize about 30 minutes into the movie that they all died since in the very beginning, it said that the tape was property of the us government and all.
Devils Mike 01-19-2008, 11:47 PM In essence, it was exactly what I expected.
-Unoriginal storyline
-Special effects are pretty good
-Unique viewing experience.
-Characters are completely dumb, plot makes no sense (an army helicopter evacuates one girl, but leaves three of her friends behind including one who is seriously injured)
Definitely not worth watching a second time.
Also, the shaking camera pissed the hell out of me in the first five minutes. By the 30 minute mark, expect to feel really sick, 2 people threw up after watching the movie because of motion sickness.
Game Breaker 01-19-2008, 11:50 PM Haha, well, if anyone can find the final scene online, please post it. I've been looking for a very long time, and so have tons of other people. Everyone wants to see the "thing" falling.
Devils Pride 26 01-20-2008, 12:03 AM It seems as if something did fall according to wikipediaCloverfield (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloverfield)
At the end of the plot summary it says it.
scalan15 01-20-2008, 12:06 AM I've heard the thing that fell at the end is part of a satelite, but I think that it's the monster, to show that it's alien, why else would they show that?
Game Breaker 01-20-2008, 12:10 AM It has to be the alien, it was the past of when it came down. Think about it, the alien came out of the water and smacked down the statue of liberty. There were so many parts that were confusing though. (SPOILERS) Riddle me this- how do 3 civilians, one severely injured, survive a helicopter crash, but 2 trained military professionals do not live? What is that about? Why did Lily go on the first chopper and then completely disappear? Why were there three different videos on that tape...what did the video of Rob and Lily have to do with anything that was dated later in May?
Brodeur4Vezina 01-20-2008, 12:11 AM I watched this movie the other day. I have to say it was really good. It was different. Alot of people who watched the movie said they had motion sickness? I don't know what they were doing in thier chairs, but nobody in the packed theater I was in had motion sickness. Secondly, people didn't like the ending, however, what can you expect, you have to accept the situation they are in. I would definatly watch it again.
scalan15 01-20-2008, 12:33 AM The other video was on the camcorder because the guy HUD stated that he didn't know that he was taping over something that Rob had already filmed, If you had a hard time understanding the movie or want answers, the viral marketing campaign before the movie provided the answers, here is the viral marketing explained;
First off, Slusho, a drink based on deep sea nectar and discovered by Taragato, the company Rob is going to Japan to work for as a VP in research (his Myspace profile said he got a degree in bio from MIT) plays a big role in this film. People at the party were wearing Slusho shirts and DRINKING the product. Now, Abrams has stated this creature is from the ocean, direct quote from Abrams.
"The concept for the monster (affectionately known simply as “Clover” in-house) is simple, says Abrams. “He’s a baby. He’s brand-new. He’s confused, disoriented and irritable. And he’s been down there in the water for thousands and thousands of years.”
And where is he from? “We don’t say – deliberately,” notes Goddard. “Our movie doesn’t have the scientist in the white lab coat who shows up and explains things like that. We don’t have that scene.”
The concept is that this creature has a parasitic spider like army with saliva that reacts with the deep sea nectar in the bloodstream of those who have had the drink (also, Taragato makes numerous other products with the deep sea nectar as stated on the Taragato web site). This reaction causes the formation of a zygote that gestates in the lungs of its victims within minutes. Notice before Marlena dies there is a man on a gurney with an outwardly exploded lung and stomach cavity, and the Doctors states in the background "another bite" as he is wheeled past them (as well as one of the parasites being carried away in a glass box for study as it seems well persevered). When Marlena states she feels funny and throws up, they shout "We have a bite!" and drag her away in hazmat suits as they expect this creature to come out. Surely it's smaller than the others and most likely they know how to kill it (Rob used an axe on one while rescuing beth so they aren't hard to kill if you expect them, the problem is expecting them to attack). So the hazmat guys either
A) Took the creature out of her for study as they did with the previous bite victim (again, remember that guy on the gurney and the creature from the bite they had under glass? The military wants to determine how it infects people)
B) They kill it as it comes out of her.
I find it silly that people say she explodes with air or more blood being rapidly produced. There is no basis for that assumption and it doesn't follow the story line.
Abrams has created this whole alternate world based around Lost, Alias and Heroes that Cloverfield takes place in. Why would Abrams, Bad Robot and Paramount pictures create Slusho.jp, Taragato's website, numerous anti-Taragato site against their deep sea drilling, all those Japan references and Rob moving to Japan to work for a Japanese company, people wearing Slusho shirts and consuming the beverage at the party, and everything else? JUST for viral marketing? No. It's all part of the concept Abrams discusses which was what initially started this movie. The concept wasn't about a monster attack. Abrams and Paramount want to start a new movie idea of bridging the internet world and movies to further the concepts along. Think about how much isn't solved in the movie and then think about how much information they have put out there for viewers to research and either make their own conclusions or find the definitive answer (assuming there is one). Look at this IMDB board, it's been buzzing since the Transformers trailer premiere and is buzzing even more. What about the Myspace profiles and the Jamie and Teddy video's? So much of this movie is marketed toward the younger cyber generation, so many people get online to find out things about movies, before and after they have watched them, that it's genius to have created this online world within a movie world. Disregarding all the information: Slusho, Taragato, the anti-Taragato organizations would be dismissing what half the concept is about.
The movie is carried over into the minds of the audience, who experience it as though they are right there, meaning they know as much as the characters do at the time. The Cloverfield refers to the field in the area formerly known as Central Park where the video tape is discovered months later. All the background information is given to the viewers via the web, it's literally laid out in front of us. Abrams would not have gone through all the detail about Slusho, placing that product in the movie, and all the hints about what happens if it meant nothing to the general concept. Everything is tied together. In some sense there is a very anti-consumer message in the film. Think about the company Taragato and how many products they sell with this deep sea nectar that is obtained by drilling deep into many parts of the ocean, including their newest location right outside NYC. Taragato uses this newly discovered and unknown substance in drinks, beauty products, glues, etc. without knowing what this substance actually does. This is an interesting concept on how much we are marketed with products we barely know anything about. Look at Red Bull, what the hell is Taurine? It's in all those energy drinks and yet ask anyone off the street what's in it and they'll most likely give you a blank stare. Think about that concept.
Everything is there for a reason, it just takes some time and thought into researching it to get it. :)
theking72 01-20-2008, 12:41 AM I enjoyed the film. Nuff said.
I can't believe I read this thread. :shakehead
Das Uber 01-20-2008, 01:47 AM I saw it tonight. It was a good movie, but people in the theater were complaining about how the ending sucked. What the **** did they expect? It was supposed to look like amateur footage, they couldn't wrap up the story and answer all our questions or it would have ruined the movie. People are so stupid.
