Nordic 01-01-2008, 11:11 AM How would you rank the nations at this point?
Is Canada still the team to beat?
Is Sweden still number two?
I think itīs up to Canada, Sweden and Usa.

Canada still the favorite but they need to keep the scores low in their games here on out.
Sweden is very close second.
USA is third but if they can get on a roll, they will be tough to stop. Lets go Jordan Schroeder :yo:
tony d 01-01-2008, 01:39 PM Canada, the Swedes, and the Americans are my 3 favourites at this point.
Canada will lose to Finland tomorrow with Mason in the nets.
deano 01-01-2008, 01:50 PM USA
Sweden
Canada
It's Van Riemsdyk's tournament so far, maybe Swedens big defensemen can shut him down?
Bucky Ducky 01-01-2008, 07:08 PM To me Canada is still the team to beat. Just so much talent, but USA also has alot of talent. Don't think for a second they won't make a push for a gold medal. Canada though, is still the favorite in my opinion.
brownman* 01-01-2008, 07:11 PM Ummm, have any of you ever heard of Russia? They have a tough draw with those Czechs but suffice to say if they get by there, it's a toss-up against Sweden.

Big Phil 01-01-2008, 11:34 PM You got to love Tavares confidence with predicting Canada will win gold. A guy like that with his abundance of skill you get the feeling he wont let you down. But still win or lose they have to get rid of Craig Hartsburg. I just dont have a lot of confidence in him, never have. And win or lose I think we need to stop making the same old mistakes that we do year after year and stop picking offensively starved teams. Gagner not being there has hurt us, but still this team needs to score goals.
sbtatter 01-01-2008, 11:45 PM Sweden, USA, Canada, Russia....If Canada and Russia make it to the SF's they should be can't miss games!!
Caged Wisdom 01-01-2008, 11:49 PM I would have to think that at this point, Sweden, and the USA are the favourites to win the tournament.
1. USA
2. Canada
3. Sweden
4. take your pick

so for thinking a team that beat canada a few days ago is the favorite makes us dumb, hmm thats weird, care to explain?
cupcrazyman 01-02-2008, 12:45 AM Canada will own all. :teach::handclap:
stop making the same old mistakes that we do year after year
Yeah. The way that Hockey Canada has been doing things has really not worked out very well.

3 time defending champs? 1 loss in 4 years? Every game they've had full control and held there own destiny.
There will be no more 3rd period collapses from this team, the Finns wont stop us, the US wont stop us, and if we get the Swedes in the gold we won't shake when pulling the trigger this time.
onice 01-02-2008, 01:22 AM I don't know. Sweden is a big team. If Canada meets Sweden again, I think Sweden will win. They look bigger than Canada.
Turd Ferguson 01-02-2008, 01:29 AM USA all the way!!!

Past team's results have nothing to do with THIS team. If anything, it can become a burden for a team.
therealdeal 01-02-2008, 02:37 AM Canada definetly is not the strongest team, I would go with Sweden or the USA.

Sweden played better then Canada the whole game, not just the 3rd period
Caged Wisdom 01-02-2008, 08:04 AM Sweden played better then Canada the whole game, not just the 3rd period
um....no, they had a fantastic third period. Canada was better in the first, and I would say it was equal in the 2nd.

Totally agree, Sweden looked weak in the first half of the game, had big problems getting the puck out of their own zone. I believe Sweden is really overrated after the win against the canadians and I would be surprised if they took a medal but extremely happy.

Sweden overated????? No, Canada is overated! Sweden was good in whole game against Canada. But in the third perod, they was GREAT!!!!!! USA and Sweden are the favorites right now!

I disagree, I think Sweden deserves all the praise they are getting, you gotta be joking if you don't think they will medal.

I think yarre is slightly too pessimistic, Canada are still the favourites but we showed they're beatable at their "own" tournament.

I don't think I am being pessimistic, just fair, and I think we already knew our team was beatable. I am not sure if we are the favourites, based on the reaction of alot of posters.
yarre 01-02-2008, 02:33 PM Maybe I am too pessimistic, I think that this swedish team is good but I just don't trust them when having the puck in their own zone. I think that it can be exploited.
We shall see, I am going to be very happy if we can grab a medal... And someone has to be somewhat modest amongst the swedes, I can't go into a thread about canada where there isn't a whole bunch of swedes shooving that one game in their face...
HotPie 01-02-2008, 02:39 PM It's a toss up between Canada, USA, and Sweden, really. I think Sweden has a slight edge, and that comeback win against Canada will have undoubtedly given them a huge boost of confidence.
Of those three teams, I think Canada will have the toughest time. Here's hoping we take it though :).

If this is a one sentence together, then I don't get it!!!
Fish on The Sand 01-03-2008, 12:18 AM Canada as 3 time defending champions are definatly still the team to beat, but the Americans imo have been the most impressive thus far. I think the USA/Can semi-final is the defacto gold medal game once again.
Ice Poutine 01-03-2008, 12:52 AM Sweden

Good call! But this year i think Sweden will win it all, USA in 2ND, and Canada in 3RD.
I mean we DO need to be kind to inferior hockey nations so that they win from time to time and dont lose interest to the point of fielding an Olympic Tiddly-Wink team and abandoning hockey altogether.:sarcasm:

But the question is if it was Russia who was very great or if it was the Czechs who was very bad? Sweden should have won with more goals if not the refering was terrible!

I agree with most of that...worst refereeing I've seen thus far..
Being a Canadian the Russian offence just scared me..
v-man 01-03-2008, 11:49 AM At this point I have to give it to the Swedes, followed by the States. Anyone who thinks Canada is still the favourite obviously hasn't been paying attention.
Buffalo87 01-03-2008, 12:08 PM Canada has to be the favorite. Sure, they're not playing as well as they could, but what's scary about that is they're still winning games fairly easily other than the one game they lost that took an amazing 3rd period comeback.
Right now I'd say:
Canada
US/Sweden
Russia
CraigC 01-03-2008, 12:22 PM Betting odds to win:
Canada 2.25
Russia 4.00
USA 4.00
Sweden 4.50
romelson 01-03-2008, 12:44 PM If Sweden beats Russia, Team Sweden will hear lots of "Reaching the final is the greatest performance in a very long time" from media and get overly pleased with their performance. Sweden could possibly make another "Canada-game" against the russians, but I doubt they will do two such games in a row. So if Sweden reaches the final, it's doesnt matter what country they face, they will underperform. At least thats my biggest worry :)
