Round robin wrapping up as I post this. So, let's see some predictions for the medal round.

Well, this Canadian team doesn't really deserve to win, but my gut tells me that they will anyway.

Interesting, but Canada rarely wins Bronze. Gold or Silver or nothing would be a more realistic prediction.

I'm going with Canada vs. Russia in the Gold medal game, and I'll predict a fourth straight gold for the CDN. It'll be a close shave, though...

I don't see either Russia, nor Canada winning their Semi. My originial prediction (pre-tourney) was Can-USA-SWE, i would now change that to USA-SWE-CAN. I give Russia less chance to pull the upset though, than I do Canada. Canada needs to get it going next game, and although I see them still medaling, FIN goalies (either of them) can steal a game. Helenius and Bernier had that Double SO at the U18's a few years ago, and if either gets hot, who knows.

Canada vs Finland: Canada will win,but not easily. No wins have come easy for us so far...its not going to change in the quarter final round.

Czechs vs Russia: Czech's will finally have some success. They are too good to slip out of this tournament without impacting. Czech's will advance.

Semi finals: Canada vs USA: Canada will stifle the Americans. Bernier will shine as we go to the Golden game,again.

Sweden vs Czech's: Sweden's aggresive but simple approach gets the nod.

Sweden vs Canada in the Golden game...Just what I think Canada will want...a re-match with the team that stopped their epic streak...and the Canadians will serve up another flawless effort. Our best games in the past 3 tournaments have been the final.

This is how I see it playing out. The top three teams clearly appear to be the US, Sweden and Canada. After that there is a drop off.

The top three can easily interchange, but I see those teams winning medals.

I agree with this assessment. The US, while appearing to be a really good team, will fail to win a medal, since that seems to be what the US junior team does best. Underacheive. I can't count how many times I expected the US to win a medal, and they end up with nothing. No bronze, no silver, no nothing. They have what, 1 gold in all these years? Pathetic.

one thing about this years schedule... is the bye to the semi's is not really an advantage... in fact it could be a disadvantage,
this is the first year since, they changed the playoff format for the 2003 tourney (from 8 playoff teams to 6), that there has been a day off in between the qf's and sf's. if this had been any other year i would of been much more worried about the semi final game (should they beat finland), because of the fatigue factor

Out of the people who have predicted so far:

Canada leads with 11 votes for gold
US is second with 6 votes
Sweden is third with 5 votes
and Russia gets 1 vote and then 6 people decided to not vote for anybody

Interesting results and I hope the majority is right on this one

Finland over Canada. I said at the start of the tournmanet that this is the year Canada's nine straight years with a medal is over. Finland always gives Canada a hard time and this time they will win.

Russia over Czechs.

I want to say Canada but it's pretty obvious it ain't going to happen again this year unless Bernier or Mason does it themselves. No flow. No chemistry. Too many non-contributors like Marchand, Legein and Boychuk. It's not something you can magically turn on when you have to.

U.S. will beat Sweden for the gold.

I reserve the right to be wrong like I usually am. :)

I think this team has more talent than the team that won Gold in Vancouver, but I don't think they're as much of a team as that one was. I could see Canada winning, but I don't have a whole lot of faith in Steve Mason, if Bernier was between the pipes, I could see him carrying us to a gold medal, now, I'm unsure. I'll say it'll be Canada vs. Sweden in the Gold Medal Game but won't make a prediction beyond that.

USA takes Bronze over Russia.
