Death of a Martian 12-31-2007, 11:56 AM doesn't this one start in like 5 minutes?
weezman 12-31-2007, 11:56 AM Come on everyone where is your spirit? U.S. or Finn. :yo:
weezman 12-31-2007, 11:57 AM doesn't this one start in like 5 minutes?
Yes, it does.
Death of a Martian 12-31-2007, 11:59 AM I have money on the finns.
:p:
Speatley 12-31-2007, 12:01 PM How has j. smith been for the US?

Sorry, but that's the best I can do for you. I only can follow via the box scores online. I'd say he's been doing fairly well.
Joretus 12-31-2007, 12:05 PM Not too good PP by finns, but still close to score in the end. Have to say Lehtivuori is looking good with the puck.
gorrillaunit18 12-31-2007, 12:07 PM My prediction.
USA- 4
FIN- 2
GO USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Death of a Martian 12-31-2007, 12:07 PM The odds for the Finns to win are 3-1.
weezman 12-31-2007, 12:07 PM It doesn't bode well for us if we head to the box straight away.:help:
Death of a Martian 12-31-2007, 12:10 PM My prediction....
Finland - 6
U.S.A. - 2
weezman 12-31-2007, 12:11 PM It would appear both sides are playing defensively.
Joretus 12-31-2007, 12:11 PM Finland controlling first 5mins, then USA took some control. One really weird icing call now. How can that be icing, USA guy trying to control puck but doesn't hit it---> icing.
It would appear both sides are playing defensively.
Finland doesn't have too much skilled forwards. So only way. Of, cheap goal by USA. Cheap D that's by finns and lucky bounce trough legs as well.
So it's 1-0 now
LAPPY13 12-31-2007, 12:13 PM is there a way I can watch this game on the internet
does anyone have a link ? thanks in advance.
inferno98 12-31-2007, 12:14 PM 1-0 Wilson (JVR, Schroeder)
weezman 12-31-2007, 12:15 PM GOAL!
1 - 0 U.S.
33. WILSON, Colin

Cheap? please explain??
Death of a Martian 12-31-2007, 12:16 PM JVR gets another point!
weezman 12-31-2007, 12:17 PM JVR gets another point!
Why do you care? :sarcasm:
It would also seem that this kid Schroeder is indeed someone to watch.
Joretus 12-31-2007, 12:19 PM Cheap? please explain??
Well I ment Finland D played it bad. Not too hard shot, trough Helenius legs and USA guy just pushed it over line with empty net while finnish D was lost. Didn't mean anything bad about USA in that play. Just that Finland "gave" it easily to USA.
2-0 with Rebound in PP. Seems like it will be quite one sided. Again lack of D in the front of net. Guy all alone putting it in the bag from rebound.
inferno98 12-31-2007, 12:20 PM 2-0 Wilson (Fairchild, Schroeder)
gorrillaunit18 12-31-2007, 12:20 PM Yyyaaayyy!!! We Score Again!
Death of a Martian 12-31-2007, 12:20 PM Why do you care? :sarcasm:
Flyers prospects first.
Winning money second.
gorrillaunit18 12-31-2007, 12:21 PM Well I ment Finland D played it bad. Not too hard shot, trough Helenius legs and USA guy just pushed it over line with empty net while finnish D was lost. Didn't mean anything bad about USA in that play. Just that Finland "gave" it easily to USA.
2-0 with Rebound in PP. Seems like it will be quite ****...
Oic, gotcha. ;)
weezman 12-31-2007, 12:22 PM 2-0 Wilson (Fairchild, Schroeder)
IIHF has it as:
24. BLUM, Jonathon
(12. van RIEMSDYK, James)
Joretus 12-31-2007, 12:24 PM Fchild putting to puck over glass. I hope Finland could generate something with PP now. So there would be competition in this game.
Death of a Martian 12-31-2007, 12:24 PM Another point for JVR?
inferno98 12-31-2007, 12:25 PM IIHF has it as:
24. BLUM, Jonathon
(12. van RIEMSDYK, James)
Hmm, im listening to it live and they said Wilson got the goal and I believe they said Fairchild and Schroeder touched it last. I could be wrong, but thats what I heard.
weezman 12-31-2007, 12:26 PM Hmm, im listening to it live and they said Wilson got the goal and I believe they said Fairchild and Schroeder touched it last. I could be wrong, but thats what I heard.
Cool. Well whoever it was, it's 2 - 0. :yo:
inferno98 12-31-2007, 12:27 PM Exactly, as long as were winning! Cant wait for the playoff rounds can actually watch it.
MURedHawk 12-31-2007, 12:28 PM :handclap: May I please have another
Joretus 12-31-2007, 12:32 PM Finland had their moments in the start of period and in the end. But otherwise USA controlled game pretty well. Would say they deserve lead, but still quite easily Finland gave those away.
Johnny Snake Eyes 12-31-2007, 12:34 PM was that another goal by wilson. if it was does the usa have the leading in pts, JVR. ast, JS. and goals, CW.
weezman 12-31-2007, 12:36 PM was that another goal by wilson. if it was does the usa have the leading in pts, JVR. ast, JS. and goals, CW.
Both the IIHF website and the Czech official page have it as Blum from JVR.
Johnny Snake Eyes 12-31-2007, 12:40 PM ok nevermind then lol. is it the end of the period?
saskatoonman 12-31-2007, 12:41 PM Watch out USA Canada is on fire right now 2-0.
weezman 12-31-2007, 12:42 PM Watch out USA Canada is on fire right now 2-0.
I am most definitely looking forward to a rematch. :handclap:
Joretus 12-31-2007, 12:44 PM ok nevermind then lol. is it the end of the period?
Second starting up.
I think it was Wilson btw. not sure tho.
edit:3-0 Wilson again. Poor D and not great goaltending either.
Johnny Snake Eyes 12-31-2007, 12:47 PM wilson scores again
weezman 12-31-2007, 12:50 PM 3 - 0 U.S.
33. WILSON, Colin
(29. SCHROEDER, Jordan)
(12. van RIEMSDYK, James)
If the IIHF stats are right, that's 3 assists for JVR.
Panopticon 12-31-2007, 12:51 PM 3 - 0 U.S.
33. WILSON, Colin
(29. SCHROEDER, Jordan)
(12. van RIEMSDYK, James)
If the IIHF stats are right, that's 3 assists for JVR.
JVR's getting gifts there. That last Wilson goal should have no assists, the Finns had it before Wilson took it back and scored.
EDIT: And the second goal was clearly by Wilson. He should have a hattrick now, I don't understand why it says Blum (unless they thought it went in from a Finn, when it it was in fact Wilson who slashed it in).
Death of a Martian 12-31-2007, 12:52 PM oh man JVR is gonna be a beast for the Flyers!
Johnny Snake Eyes 12-31-2007, 12:52 PM ruetshagger scores

AFI029 12-31-2007, 12:55 PM Bout time KO got in on the scoring. Who do we play in round 1?
Thom Yorke 12-31-2007, 12:55 PM the us picked a really poor team this year, but there actually achieving.
Johnny Snake Eyes 12-31-2007, 12:56 PM bye then probably canada
Roger's Pancreas* 12-31-2007, 12:56 PM Keep it coming, boys.

weezman 12-31-2007, 12:58 PM Bout time KO got in on the scoring. Who do we play in round 1?
I think if the U.S. wins this they'll get a bye. Not sure who they would match up against yet.
Paxton Fettel 12-31-2007, 12:58 PM Finland would beat the US 10-0 with a better coach and the other goalie ... :sarcasm: (powered by Finland)
DevilFisch 12-31-2007, 12:58 PM the us picked a really poor team this year, but there actually achieving.
You could almost say that means they picked a correct team...
Johnny Snake Eyes 12-31-2007, 12:59 PM are there fights allowed in the WJC. Goal by JVR.
Roger's Pancreas* 12-31-2007, 12:59 PM the us picked a really poor team this year, but there actually achieving.Just because they don't have fifteen first round picks playing for them doesn't mean the US has a poor team.

gorrillaunit18 12-31-2007, 12:59 PM 5-0!!!!
This US team is looking unreal!:handclap: :handclap: :handclap:
Panopticon 12-31-2007, 12:59 PM Bout time KO got in on the scoring. Who do we play in round 1?
Well, when the US wins the group, they will skip the quarterfinals and go straight to the semifinals. So they will play either Canada or Finland in the semifinal (Canada play Finland in the QF, the other QF is Czech Rep vs Russia and the winner will play against Sweden).
Steveorama 12-31-2007, 01:00 PM bye then probably canada
States get a bye to the semi, then play the winner of Finland/Canada.
weezman 12-31-2007, 01:00 PM 5 - 0

It seems JVR and Wilson are having their way with the Fins. Ouch.
AFI029 12-31-2007, 01:01 PM wow this JVR is ridiculous, pilling it on, bad news for the Atlantic Division.
AFI029 12-31-2007, 01:02 PM Well, when the US wins the group, they will skip the quarterfinals and go straight to the semifinals. So they will play either Canada or Finland in the semifinal (Canada play Finland in the QF, the other QF is Czech Rep vs Russia and the winner will play against Sweden).
Thanks
weezman 12-31-2007, 01:02 PM Helenius out and Sateri in for Finland.
Johnny Snake Eyes 12-31-2007, 01:03 PM you think wilson's stock is rising for the upcoming draft:sarcasm:
AFI029 12-31-2007, 01:04 PM Do the finns stand a chance of beating Canada, i know canada has been playing below par for them, but finland looks pretty bad in this game.
Panopticon 12-31-2007, 01:10 PM Do the finns stand a chance of beating Canada, i know canada has been playing below par for them, but finland looks pretty bad in this game.
Well, this game doesn't matter. Finland is third anyway, no matter what happens today. So it might affect their performance a bit.
And Canada is only 2-0 against DENMARK. The same DENMARK that Sweden beat 10-1.
But yeah, I don't think Finland will win it, but there certainly is a small chance. At least if you compare it to past Finland vs Canada U20 match-ups.
Tony Piscotta 12-31-2007, 01:10 PM Is the USA this good or is this a lacklustre team for the Finns? It would seem that USA Hockey has really done a strong job of getting a geographical balance to the team and really getting the best players from all regions.
Can the same be said of the Finns or has the USA talent pool just gotten that much deeper than Finland's?
weezman 12-31-2007, 01:11 PM 5 on 3 for Finland. The U.S. boys seem to be letting up.
Lehtz 12-31-2007, 01:12 PM man that 2man pp looked pathletic, game just isn't working right now at all...
HitByWitt 12-31-2007, 01:12 PM Is the USA this good or is this a lacklustre team for the Finns? It would seem that USA Hockey has really done a strong job of getting a geographical balance to the team and really getting the best players from all regions.

USA's junior program in general has gotten much better in recent years. on the same token i'm not really impressed with this Finn team.. i'd say for this game it's just a mixture of the USA's strength and the Finn's average team this year.
Panopticon 12-31-2007, 01:14 PM Their (Finns) skating looks really lazy. And because they're always one or more steps behind, when they even get a hold of the puck, they have to rush everything.
Also, they make really stupid decisions (blind passes to no one, etc.).
Joretus 12-31-2007, 01:18 PM Finland would beat the US 10-0 with a better coach and the other goalie ... :sarcasm: (powered by Finland)
Pretty bad joke, since those are only good which Team Finland has.
And yes, it's about USA being good, but Finland has reallyreally bad team. Last year had avarage team and this year even worse.
inferno98 12-31-2007, 01:19 PM Man, once again I am happy to say my Flyers got JVR. He has 10 points throughout the prelims, and the 4th game isnt over yet. I hope he can put up the same game in the semis, most likley vs Canada.
inferno98 12-31-2007, 01:20 PM Pretty bad joke, since those are only good which Team Finland has.

Joretus 12-31-2007, 01:25 PM Im pretty sure hes being sarcastic.
Yes, but still it wasn't too fun either. Since it's so sad to watch this kind of PP(5on3) and otherwise Finland as well.
FiNsKa 12-31-2007, 01:27 PM For you guys who are watching this on live TV: how did Helenius look? Can he be blamed for the US goals, or is it just a horrible team effort?
Joretus 12-31-2007, 01:31 PM For you guys who are watching this on live TV: how did Helenius look? Can he be blamed for the US goals, or is it just a horrible team effort?
Did see just 4, 2 at least could have saved(left it trough legs a bit easily in one etc.), but wouldn't blame him too much. So bad D by finns.
weezman 12-31-2007, 01:38 PM Smith pulled for 3rd period. Palmer getting some playing time.
Joretus 12-31-2007, 01:41 PM Smith pulled for 3rd period. Palmer getting some playing time.
And he had already nice save when Aaltonen got breakaway in finnish SH.
nanzenkills 12-31-2007, 01:46 PM Looks like they have changed the second goal to Wilson from Blum and JVR. That means a natural hat trick for Wilson. Way to go, Colin!

I was indeed being sarcastic, but this is what a lot of posters said during the game against Russia, when Russia was up 6-2 ... better goaltending would have made the difference ...

It's easiest way to blame goalie and/or coach. Fact is this year(and year before) Team Finland's best players(potential&playing) are goalies. And next year Finland had bad coaching, but this year with a lot worse team there is a lot better coaching.
5-2.
gorrillaunit18 12-31-2007, 01:54 PM TAKE PALMER OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jonathan. 12-31-2007, 02:02 PM the us picked a really poor team this year, but there actually achieving.
That's simply untrue and a very, very ignorant comment. You don't know much about this team, I take?
Panopticon 12-31-2007, 02:02 PM Finland third goal, but might have been a high stick.
EDIT: It's a goal. Lucenius redirects Jalvanti's shot in.
weezman 12-31-2007, 02:08 PM It's probably not a good thing to let them claw back into the game boys. :help:

Libertine 12-31-2007, 02:15 PM Players of the game?
Wilson and Lehtivuori
Panopticon 12-31-2007, 02:19 PM Putting the third string goalie in might not have been a great idea.
To be fair, none of those were his fault. The first was a great play from the Finns with a fake shot and pass to the back post and Aaltonen had an open net, the second was a great wrister (the only goal that was saveable) and the third was a redirect.
Jonathan. 12-31-2007, 02:20 PM Wilson and Lehtivuori
Wilson might have cemented himself a top 10 spot in the 2008 draft with his play.
And Schroeder, again, is showing why he'll be picked top 5 in 2009.
Great game, boys.

Panopticon 12-31-2007, 02:27 PM Yes, but Smith didn't let any of those in. :D
Yeah, but it was because the US as a team didn't even allow Finland to get in those positions, or Finland as a team played so much worse in the first two periods that they couldn't get in those positions, or both.
Finland did seem to play better in the third, but US definitely played worse in the third. So I'd say both, but the fact that Smith didn't really have to do much still stands. It goes the same for the Finnish goalies. Säteri wasn't that much better than Helenius. He just wasn't tested the same way.
gagne22 12-31-2007, 02:28 PM Sounds like the Finns D had a rough day...did Lehtivouri do alright?

Panopticon 12-31-2007, 02:31 PM Sounds like the Finns D had a rough day...did Lehtivouri do alright?
Yeah, he was selected as the best player from the Finnish team. I think the ones who are mostly in trouble are Kousa, Lajunen and Purolinna. Lehtivuori and Jalvanti have played a decent tournament, but beyond those two, the Finnish D is extremely weak it seems.
I had high hopes for Purolinna myself, but he has shown nothing in this tournament.
nanzenkills 12-31-2007, 02:34 PM the us picked a really poor team this year, but there actually achieving.
I have to disagree with this opinion. As soon as the roster was announced, I actually thought that this was the best US team picked since the one that won the gold in this tournament.
Flyersguru 12-31-2007, 03:03 PM Lethivuori? Nice :handclap:
Flyers prospects looking good in this tournament...
JVR
Giroux
Lethivuori (2nd player of the game nod)

Too bad Mario Kempe isn't getting good minutes....

This comment seems fairly odd since the US pretty much rolled through the first round. Which players were left off that should have been included?
And which players don't belong on this year's club?
Thom Yorke 12-31-2007, 05:26 PM Just because they don't have fifteen first round picks playing for them doesn't mean the US has a poor team.

Malkamäki would have been decent for 6th def or so, but so far he have been 3rd best and that says a lot D.
Lehtivuori have been only1 who is good enough for this level and can handle himself in both ends well. Then again he have been best D for his senior team already this year, so nothing surprising.

Well, Jalvanti has been at least decent, but just as Lehtivuori´s game is suffering from covering Lajunen´s mistakes, Jalvanti has had to play more safe due to his pair Kousa´s inconsistent presence.
The problem is not only in the defence. Our forwards have also been even worse than expect with only a couple of exceptions. They have made childish mistakes in own end that have led to wide open scoring chances to the opponent and also not been able to support the defence enough in our own end. The center forwards should have more focus on taking care of their defensive duties, if we are to have at least a decent battle against Canada. We also need more than excellent goaltending - OK is not enough.

I agree and I didn't mention Jalvanti, but he have been that 2nd best in my books. I would prolly give 8½ to Lehtivuori, 7+ to Jalvanti and 7- to Malkamäki. Rest would get 4 or 5 at most.
Not that others would have helped, but still D have been just standing and not marking etc. And yes, we would need goalie of the century performance by Helenius against Canada and rest should have game of the century too.
