DAstles91 12-31-2007, 12:04 AM Mason is getting the start today... do you think they will go back to Bernier after this? I can't see this being an overly heavy workload for Mason, although these days anything can happen.
A player to watch on Denmark will be Mikkel Boedker of the Kitchener Rangers, really talented player.
Go Canada Go!

DAstles91 12-31-2007, 12:12 AM Can someone tell me when Canada plays if they place second and when they would play if they place first.
The only information I have is that the quarters are on Jan 2nd at 10am and 2pm (they would be playing in one of those if they finished 2nd)
The semis are Jan 4th at 10am and 2pm which they would get a bye into if they finished first.
Gold Medal game is Jan 5 at 2pm
Bronze Medal game is Jan 5 at 10am

saskatoonman 12-31-2007, 10:08 AM Lets go Canada
saskatoonman 12-31-2007, 10:09 AM From Tsn:
A goaltending change won't be the only difference for Team Canada. In a bid to generate more 5-on-5 offense, Hartsburg has decided to change up his forward lines as well. Canada has scored just eight goals in its three games so far and five of those have come on the power play. While Canada's top line of Brad Marchand-Kyle Turries-Claude Giroux will likely remain intact, the biggest beneficiary of the changes could be Oshawa Generals' forward John Tavares.
Tavares, who is tied with Kyle Turris for most goals scored on the team with 2, has been moved up to the second line, where he'll skate between Matt Halischuk and Shawn Matthias. Prior to the start of the tournament, Tavares had been viewed as mainly a power play specialist and had not been placed on permanent line.
Related Info
Some other changes include Steve Stamkos replacing Riley Holzapel as the fourth line center and Colton Gillies moving to the wing of the third line.
Chimp 12-31-2007, 10:18 AM It's also set that Canada will play in the QF. Sweden won today against Czech Republic and I just don't see Canada losing to Denmark.

I'm not upset at all that they have to play in the quarters. This team hasn't gelled yet so an extra game could end up helping them instead of sitting idle for the whole week.

Hey, I am disapointed they lost, but a quarterfinal game is all right with me (if they win of course) as long as it keeps the legs fresh.

A 17 year old excelling in an U20 tourney is pretty rare.
I was skeptical about the guy until I saw the past few games. This guy is going to be something at the pro level...
Chootoi 12-31-2007, 12:46 PM there's the horn for the first period. anyone else have an urge for a crispy crunch? ;)
sbtatter 12-31-2007, 12:47 PM Bob MaKenzie just gave a great and realistic explanation of John Tavares, how he made the team only b/c of his reputation, but he's adjusted to the big ice and to playing 30 second shifts and giving his all, instead of pacing himself over a 2 minute shift as he does in the OHL.
therealdeal 12-31-2007, 12:49 PM Its time to break up that first line, its not doing anything good. Put Stamkos and Gillies on it and let Giroux and Marchand play a defensive role, see if it inspires everyone.
LazyD 12-31-2007, 12:50 PM Marchand should be benched for at least 10 minutes, see if that gets him going.
lfchockey 12-31-2007, 12:50 PM I think we have to realize that Canada is playing Denmark. If Tavares can step up like this against Sweden or the USA then I'll be impressed!
Don't get me wrong, he'll be a star in the NHL, but that's still a couple of years away. Show me you can dominate equal teams in this tournament.
ToysInTheAttic 12-31-2007, 12:50 PM there's the horn for the first period. anyone else have an urge for a crispy crunch? ;)
Yeah, what's up with that? I have several boxes of crispy crunch bars piled up on my kitchen table.

If Tavares want to play in the NHL, he better learn how to only take 30 second shifts

Davebo 12-31-2007, 12:54 PM How's it going? What's the score?

2-0 Canada
Caged Wisdom 12-31-2007, 12:55 PM What is the use of a hard shot when you have no accuracy to go with it?
macondo 12-31-2007, 12:56 PM Pyett hasn't impressed me at all this tournament.
Oilerfan120582 12-31-2007, 12:56 PM Early in the tournament Tavares was only getting a few shifts each game and looked like he didn't have much confidence and was just playing like he was scared of making a mistake because he knew that could lead to him being benched for the rest of the game. Now the coach is showing confidence in him and Tavares looks more comfortable. It's nice to finally see why he is dominating the OHL. He has good creativity, but seems to have a good sense of when to try something creative and when to just get the puck to the net.
Jimmi Jenkins 12-31-2007, 12:57 PM Pyett and Godfrey are aweful.
Jimmi Jenkins 12-31-2007, 12:58 PM Is it just me, or is Demark playing Canada even?

TheRealRazor 12-31-2007, 12:59 PM Good cycle by the fourth line.

sbtatter 12-31-2007, 01:02 PM Is it just me, or is Demark playing Canada even?
Well, the Danes have that one really good line that's had 2 or 3 chances, but apart from that it's been a lot of icings by them and heavy pressure from Canada

ClericMercenaryAgent 12-31-2007, 01:04 PM I don't understand why we haven't mixed up the first line yet, it's been completely useless so far, you'd think they'd do some changes.

MKWing26 12-31-2007, 01:04 PM Marchand should be benched for at least 10 minutes, see if that gets him going.
Marchand scored a nice goal in the Sweden game, but he's been terrible otherwise. He's gotta go to the fourth line.

Goal.

Jimmi Jenkins 12-31-2007, 01:10 PM You don't agree the Danes have been put under heavy pressure?
No, not unless you're counting the PP. Heavy pressure is having them pinned in their end for long periods of time, not just some of the time.

PanniniClaus 12-31-2007, 01:35 PM Kings fans you could have had Karl Alzner, think about that.
Alzner has been far from a standout in this tourney. The first period turnover he made was Junior Bish. Did not check his near side support and gave it right to the second Dane following the play.
Hickey has not been error free either but to say he is far behind Alzner is unfair. I am assuming they see Hickey replacing Lubo in 2-3 years.

Jimmi Jenkins 12-31-2007, 01:45 PM Canada is sleep walking through this, I understand it's Demark, but I would expect a little more intensity.
ClericMercenaryAgent 12-31-2007, 01:45 PM Tavares and Matthias seem to be developing some chemistry, I'd like to see those two with Stamkos on a few 5on5 shifts, I personally think they'd do really well.

TheRealRazor 12-31-2007, 01:48 PM Boooooooorrrring.

FrankMTL 12-31-2007, 02:03 PM I just don't find this Canadian team has any identity....they're not a physical or agressive team...not much offensive flair outside of Turris and Tavares...maybe Stamkos with the occasional spark....
I'm just not seeing anything that will make me think they will beat the US. The two best teams in the tourney in my opinion are the US and Sweden....

FrankMTL 12-31-2007, 02:05 PM Has this Danish player "Hardt" been drafted yet?? He's actually been very impressive today..
Bottom line is that Canada is winning and Denmark shows no signs of getting into this game. Sweden already made the outcome a non-issue, so I'm just waiting for the knockout rounds to see where Canada stands. Your coaching and depth is much too good for anybody to write them out of the running for gold at this point.
This tournament has barely begun.

Maybe next time they build a team, less nepotism should enter into the selection process.
Hummm... what else do you suggest? I mean.... Who do you think is there because on pure nepotism?
Somebody gotta remember this team should have had Toews and Gagner on it. Amongst others.
