Killa Cam Janssen 12-31-2007, 12:04 AM why not?
our scoring absolutely sucks. he is the only bright spot in lowell. he has paid his dues. in the games when we are forced to play pelley up on a scoring line (which means the game is hopeless anyway) we should let him center the 4th line and see how he does.
it cant hurt. maybe it will even motivate bergfors to get his head otu fo his ass.
sattar18 12-31-2007, 12:20 AM agree, especially IF elias is out for awhile.
thefiestygoat 12-31-2007, 12:24 AM He leads the team with 33 points and 26 assists. Right now he has a .97 point per game clip, which is pretty impressive considering that Lowell's line up is not going to impress anyone. He also is a -1, which is impressive considering how bad Lowell has been this year and that he often gets double shifted with the fourth liners, getting a ton of ice time.
I have not been able to see him play, but from listening on the radio, it seems like he is a solid two way player, who can play on either special teams units. It also seems that he has a feisty attitude and makes everyone around him better. He has played a good portion of the year with Tallackson, and Barry is on pace to put together a much better year than he did last year, maybe even his best AHL season. He also seems like he is the heart of the power play, constantly feeding the puck to the right spot and positioning himself well to get in place to get quality shots on goal.
I did the rough math and he is on pace for a 77 point year with 61 assists. If he finishes out this year well I think he has a real shot to make the big team next year. Hell, maybe he will even get a call up sometime this year. It seems he could work well if you put him with someone like Parise or Gionta who has a good shot and can skate. Perhaps he could also help the power play which has been a huge struggle this year.
Out of all the prospects on Lowell, I think he is one of the few that has a future with the Devils, and out of all of those guys, I think he is the most likely to realize that potential.
devsfan4life 12-31-2007, 12:31 AM Definitely. Why not call him up? An injection of new blood is definitely in order.
fortheloveof666 12-31-2007, 12:43 AM I support this. Rather see him up than a guy like Rupp.

Niedermayer21 12-31-2007, 02:14 AM Petr Vrana was the first star of Lowell's last game. I am in full support of calling him up. Now how would we make room on our roster?
Does anyone know how much longer Pando will be out of the lineup? It seems like this injury could be similar to Jamie Langenbrunner's which eventually required surgery.
Also, is Barry Tallackson an UFA after this season? Since he is finally scoring, I would be curious if we could get something for him as he has no future with the Devils IMO. If Lou could trade Aaron Voros, he could trade Tallackson. If we get an extra 6th rounder, why not?
fIREnIcE 12-31-2007, 03:29 AM I support this. Rather see him up than a guy like Rupp.
I agree i just would hate to see him get discouraged getting 4th line nimutes but as you said anything is an improvemnet over rupp....although love the tko of sutton last night although he didnt shake him up too bad witht the game winning gaol.
fIREnIcE 12-31-2007, 03:30 AM all in all why not ill jump on the wagon and say get this guy up with the big goys while elias is out....would he be subject to any waiver possibilities???
The Cuban 12-31-2007, 09:16 AM I support this. Rather see him up than a guy like Rupp.
I agree. I hope we waive Rupp soon.
BenedictGomez 12-31-2007, 11:24 AM I've been in support of this all year.:sarcasm:
Devilswede 12-31-2007, 11:34 AM We all have been.
Sutter and Lou haven't...that's the bottom line.
Vrana definitely deserves a shot...espcially with the way our scoring has been going lately.
fredthelen 12-31-2007, 01:12 PM If Elias is out for a longer period of time, get that guy out of Lowell, and for crying out loud get Pelley off that first line....IF Elias comes back, you still call him up, and give Zajac a little bit of time on the 3rd or fourth line, and give that Vrana guy a shot.....Maybe he would have good chemistry with Elias, at least they could speak the same language :-) (Have them play on a line with Rachunek and put Gionta on Defence)
MoonDragn 12-31-2007, 02:10 PM Frankly I thought Vrana and Clarke looked better than alot of our guys in training camp. I think Lou wants to give them more time in the minors to work on their game or something.
Both of those guys should be up here. They had a scrum in training camp and they beat the pants off of Marty.
Brodeur2007 12-31-2007, 02:17 PM I am %100 supporting this. But if we DO call up Vrana, who will the Devils rely on the scoring?

I really dont see why he or any other young player would get discouraged with 4th line minutes considering this is his 3rd years in the AHL and ANY time with the big club he would certainly jump at the opportunity. People seem to have this ridiculous notion that every young player needs top 6 minutes. Its really now or never with Vrana, this is a contract year and i honestly dont seem him accepting a qualifying offer if he gets no time with the big club this year. He would make much more in Europe. I also dont really understand why Lou thinks every young guy should spend an eternity in the AHL, as i have said in many other threads it discourages players more than motivates them in my opinion. People need attainable rewards and Vrana has certainly earned his reward this season.
PS since Pandalfo has been out for soooo long i dont see why Vrana has not been up already, rolling 11 forwards or 12 with Rupp is retarted and wears players down unnecessarily this early in the season. I thought we learned this lesson last year.

They don't have the room. They would need to send someone down or put someone on Longterm injury list or something before they can bring someone up. Part of the reason why they sent Bergfors down.

What does Rupp bring to this team other than the occasional right hook that drops whoever he is fighting? It's time to waive him.

thanks, i hope so
yakitate304 12-31-2007, 06:28 PM I'm in favor of this. I think that right now we really need to find a way to get our offense clicking on a consistent basis. A lot of our guys are good role-players, but we need some regular offensive talent (especially with Elias and Zajac currently underperforming). Considering how frequently Sutter has shuffled lines, I wouldn't mind at least seeing how a line of Elias-Vrana-Gionta would work. I doubt that we'd see Parise-Vrana-Gio, just because of size issues.
Clarkson Falls Down 12-31-2007, 06:31 PM I am %100 supporting this. But if we DO call up Vrana, who will the Devils rely on the scoring?
Are you talking about the New Jersey Devils or the Lowell Devils? I'm a tad confuzzled.
guyincognito 12-31-2007, 06:49 PM how long is elias suppose to be out
I don't think he'll be out that long, it's more of what % will he be able to put out when he plays.
He's skated like crap all year, after tweaking his groin early. He skates like a nut against Buffalo, then he tweaks the groin again. So, I guess it's back to skating like crap.
Brooklyndevil 12-31-2007, 07:02 PM I hear the kid needs to get stronger, but I say give him a shot.

Groins are tricky. Gionta was supposed to back relatively quickly last year, but he ended up being out for awhile. I prefer that Elias gets back to full health, no matter how long it takes.

Lowell Devils
Clarkson Falls Down 12-31-2007, 07:20 PM Lowell Devils
In that case, I don't care anymore about who they are going to rely on for scoring. The organization has totally butchered their minor league system. It's become a vehicle for sending down aging former NHLers like Marshall, Rass, Almo, MacGillis, Matvichuk. Lowell and formerly Albany have been turned into a joke and it's tough for our true prospects to develop down there, especially our offensive players.

Yeah it's sad to see a once great medium for developing prospects (Elias, Madden, Gionta, Pandolfo, Clarkson, Parise, etc) become so stale, if you will.
One could argue that this could be due to a lack of top-flight talent, though. Bergfors, Vrana, and perhaps Fraser are the only high draft picks down there right now.
