Watch LIVE on TSN.ca as Canada takes on Sweden, today at 1:30pm et/10:30am pt, followed by extended post-game coverage only on TSN.ca.
bottleCAPS 12-29-2007, 10:55 AM yeah TSN was showing CZE vs SVK this morning and then CAN vs SWE this afternoon, too bad tho i'd really much rather watch this game, it should be a doosie.

Surely Russia has a national sports broadcaster, don't they?
Instead of jumping all over TSN for carrying it's nations games, look to your own country as to why you can't watch a tournament from a virtual neighbour of yours.
Start the russian version of TSN ffs - do something positive instead of *****ing and whining...
Caged Wisdom 12-29-2007, 11:27 AM I would like to see a bit of this game as well, too bad.

Perhaps there are other things to due in Russia besides obsess over a bunch of teenage hockey players. Apparently, there is nothing else to do in Canada.

Why it's Junior hockey? Let's face it hockey isn't hockey isn't that popular to begin with and this isn't top level hockey. A junior age internationall basketball or baseball tournament would probably get the same level of coverage. Plus the in this case the Cold War is long over. The US and Russia aren't really big rivals anymore (the big rivalry for the US is obviously with Canada). This is a biggest game so far as far as the Tournament goes but outside of that it means basically nothing.

You would think USA hockey would at least have a way to follow it online? Junior hockey is important for the same reason college football is important; you get to see tomorrow's stars today. There are millions of hockey fans in the us and trust me the majority of people would rather watch USA vs Russia then Usa vs Canada. This game is still important to people especially because of the politics in the world today.

1st off people watch college football mostly because of the popularity of the sport and because of ties to a school. While seeing future NFL stars are a part of it it's a small reason why people watch college football. Similarly it is the same reason why the NCAA Hockey Tournament gets more coverage in the States then the World Juniors even though the World Juniors is better hockey. AS far as coverage from Usa Hockey remember it is expensive to send a crew over to cover the tournament and why it is worth it for TSN to send one over because it is a big ratings getter in Canada it isn't in the US. Thus unfortunatly US fans are reliant on the TSN coverage and when Canada plays at a different venue we are left with none. Let's face it this year with the NHL Network picking up the TSN feed for the medal round the tournament is getting one of the best coverage it has gotten in the States. Before unless you shelled out money for Center Ice you couldn't see any of the games on TV.

Cherepanov 71 12-29-2007, 02:18 PM Rakshani on the rebound, 5 on 4 still
dmonk 12-29-2007, 02:18 PM 1-0, that's a logical conclusion
I'd guess US team is way too fast for Russia, hence all these penalties.

VladNYC 12-29-2007, 02:19 PM Team USA scores! TYLER RUEGSEGGER has scored for the United States. As they worked the power play, Jordan Schroeder ripped a shot from the point and the rebound came right to Ruegsegger on the back door and he slammed it in. Assists: Schroeder, Okposo

Cole for Roughing.
jkrdevil 12-29-2007, 02:30 PM End of the First 1-0 US. Russia will begin the second with about a minute of Power Play time.
Kaizer 12-29-2007, 02:32 PM Tough period for Russia with 12 minutes of PK time. Cherepanov looks like a difference maker for Russia ... at least USA had some troubles containing him.
Paxton Fettel 12-29-2007, 02:32 PM The Russians started playing with about 3:30 left in the period. Before that it was all USA.
Joeri Loonen 12-29-2007, 02:33 PM The game is not too bad after the first period.
The Russian netminder Boborovsky has come up with some big saves during the string of US-power plays in the first part of the game.
After being forced into defense, Russia was able to take its skating game on the ice which had the Americans pushed back for most part of the last 7 minutes.
This Russian team is not afraid to play physical, at times they even outmuscle the USA. In their enthusiasm though they fly in too wild at times, resulting in some penalty calls. Some of the calls against the Russians were dubious. Then again with the 2-ref system and international style of refereeing after 60 mins the balance will be even amongst both teams.
To round of, Finally the beautiful arena in Liberec is packed after having seen a number of games with only a couple of hundred people wtching. Mostly Russian fans inside, not too many cheers for the Americans.

I didn't mean for the majority of the period... as I said, prior to Marchand's break down ice, they had their heads turning a lot in the zone on back to back shifts. Canada played a great period for most of it though... I have a feeling if Sweden doesn't find the net, Canada will run away with it.

Team USA scores! James vanRiemsdyk, the tournament's leading scorer, just added a strange goal for the US. He went to deke the goal but lost the puck and it ended up going through Bobrovsky's legs. Assist: Rakhshani.
damn im good :)

same as in the other group. so nothing is certain yet.
Fish on The Sand 12-29-2007, 04:30 PM Is first place wrapped up for sure? What happens if the US loses to Finland?
Finland lost to Russia and only beat Switzerland in overtime. They only get 2 points for defeating Switzerland in overtime, so the best Finland can do it 8 points where as the US is already at 9.
Fish on The Sand 12-29-2007, 04:30 PM same as in the other group. so nothing is certain yet.
USA has mathmatically clinched the group actually. Even if Finland wins that puts them at 8 to the Americans 9.
Paxton Fettel 12-29-2007, 04:31 PM Finland lost to Russia and only beat Switzerland in overtime. They only get 2 points for defeating Switzerland in overtime, so the best Finland can do it 7 points where as the US is already at 9.
oh yeah, you're right.
jkrdevil 12-29-2007, 04:32 PM same as in the other group. so nothing is certain yet.
I believe the US has wrapped up the group. Because Finland won in OT against the Swiss they only got 2 points. Thus they can't tie the US. The only team that can is Russia who loss to the US so the US owns the head to head tie-breaker. I believe for a 2 way tie head to head is used as the tie-breaker which the US owns.

Bobrovsky for Russia. Summers for USA.
hullsy47 12-29-2007, 05:38 PM Team USA scores! TYLER RUEGSEGGER has scored for the United States. As they worked the power play, Jordan Schroeder ripped a shot from the point and the rebound came right to Ruegsegger on the back door and he slammed it in. Assists: Schroeder, Okposo
word is leafs scouts are all over ruegsegger.....hed be a 1st rounder this year they say ..
VladNYC 12-29-2007, 06:00 PM Great game by USA! Bravo! They earned a game with team Canada where i hope they repeat their success. USA had twice as many shots on goal then Russia, over 40, and the fact that Bobrovsky only let 3 in is a good testament to his skill. Although kicking the puck into his goal that gave USA the win was disturbing. This is a good wake up call for Team Russia. They have to crush the swiss and hope the Czechs don't beat Sweden. Another up hill battle for team Russia, let's see if they fold or turn this into something.

Thats all assuming Canada doesn't wind up with the top seed in their pool. THAT is yet to be determined. If the Czech's beat Sweden on Monday(in regulation)...Canada still gets top seed in the pool.

CIsle 12-30-2007, 09:42 AM The US winning the group just to have to play Canada in the next round (if this is the case) is not a good thing. There should be an automatic rule that these two nations ONLY play against each other in a final, if they both get there:-)
Now one of these two (most likely Canada) will knock off the other, only making things easier for the other teams, who most likely are not as good on whole as either the US or Canada.
JMHO....
Caged Wisdom 12-30-2007, 12:09 PM Have you seen Sweden play yet, CIsle, they are pretty damn good.

Wouldn't Canada still have to win the goal differential between the top 3 teams in their pool to clinch a bye if the Czechs beat the Swedes? Sweden is still way ahead in the goal differential between these top teams. Canada would need to blow out Denmark too, in that case, though that will probably happen.

The tie breaking formula for a 3 way tie (should that happen) doesn't factor games against Slovakia or Denmark.
Caged Wisdom 12-30-2007, 09:26 PM The tie breaking formula for a 3 way tie (should that happen) doesn't factor games against Slovakia or Denmark.
Canada would win if the Czech's beat Russia though.
nanzenkills 12-30-2007, 11:41 PM The tie breaking formula for a 3 way tie (should that happen) doesn't factor games against Slovakia or Denmark.
Ahh, I see. Because Canada beat the Czechs by 3 and only lost to Sweden by 1, they have a differential of +2 between the 3 potential first place teams. Sweden has a differential of +1, having beaten Canada by 1. And the Czechs are at -3, having lost to Canada by 3. So any Swedish loss would put them at a worse goal differential than Canada, which is why Canada would get the tie breaker ahead of Sweden.
But if the Czechs somehow beat Sweden by 6 or more goals (not likely to happen, but you never know), wouldn't the Czechs then clinch the bye through goal differential?
Caged Wisdom 12-30-2007, 11:47 PM But if the Czechs somehow beat Sweden by 6 or more goals (not likely to happen, but you never know), wouldn't the Czechs then clinch the bye through goal differential?
Yes, they would

OK, now I get it. Thanks for the clarification!
Slitty 01-02-2008, 03:04 PM Seems like an awful lot of penalties this game. Is it the refs or the players fault? I know Carman is famous for his streaks of indiscipline.
Russia started the game in rather undisciplined fashion as they had a hard time containing the Americans - and the refs called absolutely every little thing. What team Russia's complaint was is that the refs eased up as the game went along to the point of not calling some clearcut American penalties to end the game. As for Carman, apart from a tussle with Filatov early on, his penalties were merely him pulling down attacking players who he didn't have the body position to stop cleanly.
