Steve Mason = Jose Theodore?

After watching the Canada - Slovakia game yesterday I noticed that Mason's form reminded me very strongly of an NHL goaltender. Anyways it was Theodore from his Montreal days. Does anybody else see this, his posture, glove, and form are uncanny IMO.

he can't save anything with his glove-side? That's Theo we know.

I don't know if his "form" as such reminds me (never really thought of it) - I guess I get distracted by Mason being so good with the puck, whilst Theodore was pretty awful at times. But it had occurred to me before that they also share a similar trait of being "money goalies". Well, ok, the meaning of that with regards to Theodore might be a bit misconstrued these days. :) But in the old days (talking pre-Habs, even), Theodore was a guy who might let in a few goals when it didn't really matter much, but he could absolutely bar the door or steal a game at other times when things were really on the line. Hull was my junior team in those days, and it's kind of that "money goalie" aura that initially brought those two guys into conjunction in my mind, once upon a time. Neither has/had the smooth technical proficiency of a Bernier. But they could be just as special at times when the chips were down. (And of course, perhaps not having the smooth technical proficiency also contributes to the _look_ of a goalie being spectacular at times too).

Interesting. I do not see this comparison at all. Mason is much bigger and that alone allows him to play a different style. His limbs are long and his back is always straight, Theo is hunched over and only 5'11. Theodore is more active in the crease and has quicker feet, plays more of a hybrid/flybrid style. Mason is more of a positional goaltender with a very wide butterfly. Aside from catching with his right hand, I don't see a single thing they have in common.

Like I said, it's interesting to me that somebody sees this comparison. Next game I'll try to figure out why and see if I can see any similarities.
