Malmivaara?

Anyone have any info on this guy? He was up with the big club in late October, and he looked ok, in limited action. Then, he was gone. I understand with Brookbank, Mottau, and Oduya the D is a man or two heavy, but why was he up in the first place? Was he being showcased for a trade that never happened, or a one week try out? The guy seemed pretty sound on the blueline, didn't see much offense from him, though. (nor any one on the team at that point other than Pando and Madden).
Any info would be nice, just curious why he was up in the first place, or why he was sent down before Mottau or Oduya...
