Rich Chere wears poopy pants

This guy is so full of crap. The only reason why I believed that stupid nhlline.ca site this summer was because Rich Chere wrote several times that Souray to NJ was "imminent". No one else reported this, not TG, not Neverson, not even Eklund, but Chere sounded certain that it would happen. We all know how that ended, and I gave him a free pass, but now I think he's no better than Eklund. Last week he said that Lou missed the Vancouver game so he could make try to make a trade before the holiday freeze.

Notes: GM Lou Lamoriello said he skipped the game and remained in New Jersey attempting to make a trade prior to last night's midnight holiday roster freeze. No transactions can be made through midnight Dec. 27

This is what TG had to say about this:

I asked Lou Lamoriello about that today and he claimed his comment was misinterpreted and that he did not say he was working on a trade. "I said that because the trade deadline was at a certain date, I preferred to stay home until that was over," Lamoriello said.

When I asked him if I should expect a deal to be announced at 12:01 a.m. tonight, he said, "No."

Rich Chere is a liar and a hack. He stinks and I don't like him. TG FTW!

I think you are way out of line here...Rich Chere has been one of the best Devils reporters over the years.

Unlike Larry Brooks who would have planted the seed of a contrived notion with the word "Perhaps" then procede to make up an entire story.

I think Chere reports what he hears, sometimes he may misquote people but overall he's a pretty unbiased guy. I rather have him than Neverson.

I'm with Jim on this, Chere is an excellent reporter who never makes up the BS you see going on in the post. While I enjoy TG more, Chere is hardly a hack.

Rich Chere has been a pretty darn good Devils beat reporter over the years. The only thing I have against him is that sometimes he tries to magnify controversy among the team when there isn't anything there. I've heard Devils players insinuate the same criticism against him in the past.

Chere does seem to exaggerate certain things, he's a lot better than the post and does a very solid job.

Gulitti's blog has definitely given him a major boost in my Devils' beat reporters race.

He's not as bad as Brooks and Neverson, we'll never forget the weekly Gomez rumors that came out of those two clowns, but I've noticed that he tends to exaggerate or misquote sometimes and it seems like he's doing it for the sole purpose of making his story more interesting/exclusive. The reason I'm disappointed is because I expect that crap from the Post, but not from the Star Ledger. Some of Chere's recent articles belong on Page Six. TG gives us all the juicy details without the BS. He is the man.

TG's website should devils.google.com. You can ask him about anything in the comments section of his blog and he'll try to get an answer for you.

I like Tom Gulitti, but I thought he was the one who broke Matvichuk's discontent with Sutter's camp evaluation. Journalists do have a choice to not print a player's quotes if they feel it may jeopardize their source's situation. If Chere also contributed an exaggerated or distorted opinion(not saying Gulitti's report was exaggerated or distorted, just responding to accusations made towards Chere) to the Matvichuk story, I missed it or don't remember it. I think he (or even Bridget Wentworth or other Star-Ledger staff writers) may have followed with the same quotes after they had already been up on F & I for hours.

Sure Chere made that comment that could have been interpreted as "Lou is desperately trying to get a trade done before the freeze" but I thought of it as "Lou is just going to sit by the phone in case another GM calls him with something interesting." Lou never makes desperate moves and with the team winning and a deadline approaching, rushing to make a trade would have been a poor decision.

I used to like Chere. Tommy G is the only Devils reporter I trust now. I made his blog my homepage.

Seems to me the guy made a mistake by misinterpreting Lou's comment. That does not a hack and a liar make. Look at his body of work over the years.

Since the Devils moved here he has been covering them, that's 25+ years your talking about.
