Madden For Selke!

I know there was already a John Madden appreciation thread, but I just want to give props to Madden for his outstanding play so far this season. He is play so much better than he was last year where it look like Julien's system crippled his play. Madden is as valuable a player we have on this team besides Brodeur. Playing on the PP and the PK and against the other team's top players WHILE have one of the best offensive seasons of his career so far, Madden has to be in the running for a Selke this year, especially since his "partner in crime" Jay Pandolfo has been injured for some time now.

Madden - that slow, old overpaid hack?

Yeah, he's my favorite player so you'll get no argument from me (except that he probably should have been the captain, but I can't argue with the Langenbrunner choice [much].) :x):

I'd like to see him get more PP time since he's not afraid to fire the puck and clearly has a good one-timer plus is our best center at faceoffs.

He is 2nd on the team in shooting % - with nearly 16% of his shots going in the net and has almost 1/2 the shots of Parise. Shoot more John! Pando is 1st in that category... we need him back ASAP!

Music to my ears. All this talk of Madden slowing and needing to trade him stopped pretty damn quick once the season started. The guy was playing hurt, and he hadn't recovered from the groin injury he got in the last few games of the season. Madden would have been an excellent captain, but I also can deal with it being Langs.. could be worse (and was).

Unfortunately 50% of his shots also go about 3 feet high and 10 feet wide of the net...especially on 2-on-1s.

But yea, he has been playing great this year. Huge improvement over last year, and the awful playoffs.

he needs to slow down his offense if he is going to have a shot at it.:sarcasm:

I have always said Madden is the backbone of this team. Get rid of Madden and we'll fall apart. Last year when he went out with that groin injury was when all of our problems started. We can probably blame our playoff performance on the fact that 4 of our top guys had groin injuries during the season. Langenbrunner included too, since he didn't get it taken care of til this season he must have been suffering in the playoffs. Could explain why we lost so poorly to the Senators.

Madden: If they don't score more points than the other team, they're not going to win this game. It's as simple as that. BOOM.

No way man. Maybe those injuries hampered us a little bit, but Ottawa bullied us up and down the ice half of those games. They were faster, more physical, passing it all over us, and basically just breaking us down game by game.

In my opinion, that series played out the way it would have no matter what. At best, we win one of those 3-2 games and make it a 4-2 series.

Madden has a definite shot at the Selke this season considering his scoring surge. Selke voters usually nominate (although last season was a bit of an aberration with Pandolfo and Pahlsson) the defensive forwards who had the best offensive seasons.

Madden on Madden: Errr, here, herrres a guy...whose got like the same name as me...errr, now, the the the the award he's nominated for is called the the Selke award, errr, this this award is for those guys who...who are just like stifiling in there game of offense vs. defense...errr...where there is one team of players...err..and, and they'rrrre playing another team of players. Now, whats gonna happen is is is the team that scores more points..errrr....they're probably going to win, or something like that. But...errrr....this guy over here with my name, he can do it all. He can pass, hit guys...skate fast...and shoot the biscuit...and that reminds me, I love those little biscuits with that marshmellow looking guy on the tin. You know what biscuits remind me of...a Turdunken!

They weren't any different than the team we beat during the regular season. We were just injured and run down and not prepared for them. If we had all been healthy it would have been different.

Id love for him to win, but he's going to be up against Brind'Amour and probably Zetterberg. Unless he cracks 25 goals I don't think its going to happen, and even if he does he'll still be a long shot at best.

Unless things change significantly in the second half, Zetterberg is a shoe-in for the Selke.

Madden should receive the nomination, though, which I believe will be his fourth.

Just hope Pandolfo comes back and continues his great season. I want to see him get nominated again.
