I am a big Devils fan from Albany, New York. My girlfriend got me tickets to go see my frist real Devils game. ( I watched some preseason games when the farm team was the river rats.) I am going to the Buffalo Game on January 8. We are driving down early in the morning to spend the whole day in the area. I needed some help to find out:

1.What would be the best way to get there?

2.Where can I find some good parking spots around the Rock?

3.Where is the best place to eat (at the Rock or in town )?

4.What are some places we might want to check out before the game, since we are going to be there all day.

1)Mass transit, Albany or not. Fridays are a pain to drive even after the game or at 12 noon.
2)Park at a train station in NW Jersey or the light rail in nearby Bloomfield off exit 148 off the Garden State Parkway. Or take Amtrak from Albany. If you MUST drive, park in the Hilton garage 2 blocks away or any garage within blocks of the place but prepare to pay. The Edison lot across from the Rock on Mulberry/Market may have some spaces available.
3) The Ironbound section is well known for good eats, esp. if you like Portugnese cuisine. Bunch of places on Ferry St. are within walking distance from the arena. http://www.goironbound.com. Scully's and the Arena Bar are closer but they are packed when gametime approaches.
4)There is absolutely nothing of interest in Downtown Newark to check out, except for the Museum(http://www.newarkmuseum.org) or some art galleries scattered downtown, but that's it. The arena itself is a must see(opens at 5:30). If you want a mall, take the Path to Newport(Jersey City) or drive to Jersey Gardens in Elizabeth(if you must drive).

Been to the Jersey Gardens mall, and lemme tell ya......I come from a very waspy city where everyone in the mall seems to be white, and to go to the Jersey Gardens, was real refreshing, I'm thinking......so many ethnicities.......I'm home.

If you are driving from Albany, just stay on I87 until you see signs for the George Washington bridge. It is exit 7S, and once you get on the bridge and over, follow the signs for I95 south. Get off exit 15E and make a right after the long winding exit ramp, and it will place you on Raymond blvd. Just follow that all the way down and park in any parking garage you see. That really is the easiest way to go. As far as eating is concerned, I have not stayed to eat, but I'm sure everyone else will be able to help you out with that and other activities.

Tell me about it. And to think Gomez left for upper-class white town when he too could have been like me and been at home. All he has in NYC now is Dawes, while here he could have had Oduya, Weekes, Fraser (if called up) and it would have been a multi-cultural bonanza.
