Does anyone know if people are working on a roster update?

This is great, but a save file is somewhat limited for editing. Is it possible to turn off turn some of the other leagues after loading the save? I'm finding the game painfully slow given it is simming through every league in the game.

The Blue Line website has done a roster update that is current to the start of the season. However, they haven't edited any player attributes, so you're stuck with the terrible original ratings.

Not possible to turn off leagues in a save. You can turn down detail and make sure the leagues aren't enhanced, or you can get a faster PC.

Hm. Can't get it to work on the Mac version. Can anyone help? I've already de-RAR'ed it with stuffit expander, so that's not the issue, getting it to show up when I turn the game on is.

Krik, where are you exporting the file to? That was my issue the first few times I've tried it since my save files are in a different location then my database files. Although I'm not on a Mac so I'm not sure if they do something different or not in that regard.

Still working on an update with pre-FA rosters, but with the 07 picks assigned to their teams. So far I only have the draft part done. I should be able to get going on the NHL and AHL transactions from last season some time this weekend.

I think the Mac version is set up a little differently than the PC one in terms of file names/where stuff goes, which is frustrating, to say the least.

It's been pretty well confirmed that Mac saves and PC saves are not compatible, which was news to me.

It's unfortunate.

I updated my rosters with a pregame editor (Eastside Uk's?) and started fresh using three managers up the Calgary Flames organization (one for the Flames, one for Omaha, one for my beloved local Las Vegas). And it's with my beloved local Las Vegas that I have trouble wondering about roster moves. Judging from pre-season games, if I keep my currently signed players, I simply dominate. But I see that I have nearly 40 players backed up in Omaha who all are, attribute wise, better than my Vegas players. I'm debating in my mind whether to stick with my current roster, who seems to be a slam dunk championship team.....or cutting them to send down my Omaha players and dominate on an other-worldly level. While I'm tempted to cut and bring down AHL overfill, my gut tells me hubrus is wrong and I should stick with what's working now......I will do that....for now.

I have started my Dallas Stars game using Smetana's save game (big thanks by the way)
If anyone is looking for a very good offensive d man, I'd suggest Niskanen from the Stars, he is leading my team in points, is a ppg player. His stats aren't all that, but he is putting up some amazing numbers.

those tips that they show while things are loading look very handy, but they don't stay on the screen long enough..

Has anyone found good defensive tactics? I've been fooling around with changing them, and although I've improved defensively, it's still not as good as I want them.

I'm using Smetana's new roster and I'm the Penguins. MAF is rated the 5th best goalie I believe and I made a few trades to improve my defense. (acquired Ohlund) So I think my defense players are fair enough, and my goalie is great, but Fleury's SV% is horrible. I usually don't allow too many shots, but a lot of them get through.

Any suggestions?

im using smetana's rosters and i have a problem. i cant get past july 24th 2010. the game crashes every time.. has this happened to anyone or do you know how i can fix it??

btw. if you are using smetana's rosters.. sign free agent D-man ryan wilson when you start your game.. he turns out amazing. i had him in the AHL for about 1.5 season. and this season he was a top pairing D-man on my stanley cup winning team..

Super weird thing happened to me, two of the players I just drafted aren't my property a week later. I checked my unsigned prospects page and they weren't there so I did a search for them and it says they're still eligible for the upcoming draft. Now I wasted a 2nd round pick on Max Pacioretty and a 6th on Linus Omark and they'll be back in next years draft. What the heck is this? Anyone seen it before?

My game is going really screwy all of a sudden. An undrafted player I signed from the qmjhl who led the league in scoring with 134 points now isn't signed. I was waiting for the transfer period for him to show up on my roster and just found out the devils signed him. Now, during the offseason I keep getting the same trade offer every single day from the bruins even though I turn it down every time. Oh, and those players I drafted, on the info screen it shows me as having drafted them but their nhl rights are left blank.

That sucks. The biggest problem I have is that my best scout always gives me reports that contradict my other 9 scouts (9 guys will say a player has limited potential but my main scout says he has top line potential - happens so much). I always assume he is probably right but the inconsistency drives me nuts.

Well, problem solved I guess. Pacioretty and Omark hit free agency july 1st and signed with me. Still, was really weird what happened.

Yea I've had some weird things happen to me too. Luckily nothing that affected my game too bad. For example, in my season with the San Antonio Rampage, when I go to board confidence, it always tells me that Don MacLean would be a good addition to the roster, even though last season he was already on my team and now he is signed with an NHL team so there is no way I could acquire him.

Quick question here. How Accurate is the team report rankings you think? I just aquired Jay Mckee and it says he's my third best Defensemen ahead of Mitchell, Jackman, Phillips, and Boyle in that order.

Your assistant GM puts together that list...It's just his opinion (sometimes accurate sometimes completely off).

This will only change it in a new game. Download the save game editor if you want to change it mid-game.

Hey guys,

I've been working on a mod for EHM 2007 based on the 1979-80 NHL season for some time now. I'm now able to release a first beta version of this. All 21 teams with all players who dressed for at least one game that season are in the game. I added 9 additional teams to complete the 30-team league.
Those 9 teams have current NHL regulars or no players at all on their rosters at the moment. That's why I consider this beta version unplayable. A lot more work has to be done.

yeah. i tried that too. didnt work. i thought i was the only one with this problem too, lol.

it really sucks. i havent played the game in over a week, i love the game. but there is allways some kind of problem with it.

i have had it since the day it was released, and i have never been able to play more then 4 seasons without a bug or something destroying my file.

It's been a while since I played the game, but yesterday I decided to pick it up again. I've had long games with TB, Ottawa, CBJ, Vancouver and Edmonton and this time I would go and give the Habs a try.

I do not play with the updated savegame file that starts the season in '07 because I've put way too much work in editing my own database with future prospects who aren't in the original database.

I made a couple of trades at the beginning of the season. I usually wouldn't get him, but I went out and got Bobby Ryan this time because I really wanted a future forward superstar. I also tried hard to get Lecavalier, I offered some packages including Koivu, Higgins, Plekanec etc but they wouldn't bite.. Vinny's a UFA at the end of the season, I'll try my luck again then.

- Acquired B. Ryan from ANA for Murray, Bonk and Perezhogin
- Acquired A. Marvin from CGY for T. Linhart and C. Cepek

One of my players was injured in my last game and I requested a trainer report. My trainer says that other than his current injury, he suffered a hip flexor injury in the past that could cause problems in the future, and he recommends sending him to a specialist even though he would be out for one to three weeks while being examined. Does anybody know how to send him to a specialist?

Never had it happen to me, but the SI board says you can do it on his profile page (I'm guessing by set player status, offer new contract, etc).

I won the Cup in my first season at Montreal.. completely unexpected. We had a decent season, finished with 101 points for 4th in East. The Sabres won our division, and the Conference, and beat us up pretty bad during the season, however they were stunned by the Islanders in the first playoff round. We edged past the Panthers in 7 games in the first round, then again in 7 games defeated the Islanders. We really struggled in both series, and with the Rangers (2nd East) in the CF I really thought our run would come to an end. However, things turned out slightly different. We won the first 2 games on the road, and got a split at home. Back in NY, we finished off the series in overtime to claim a 4-1 win.. Huet, who was really strong during the regular season, pulled us through with some spectacular performances. San Jose awaited in the finals, they finished 2nd in the West. Again, we won the first 2 road games and took a split at home. In game 5, Huet had about his best game of the season as we were outshot 46-24 but won 3-0 :bow: Understandebly, Huet won the Conn Smythe.

Now up, the draft and off-season. I really want Lecavalier and TB still hasn't signed him so I'm confident he will be an UFA. If I get him, I'm gonna trade Koivu. I have the 22nd pick in the upcoming draft, I also traded Latendresse to St. Louis for the 17th pick. I need some winger prospects so I hope guys like Cherepanov or Eller are still available.

yeah I just played my top 2 lines really heavily (rathje and hatcher are beasts, and Picard was great the whole year), I played my third line in defensive situations but probably 80% of my goals came Forsberg, Knuble, Gagne, Carter and Ryan

playing with smetana's rosters and my game also crashed on June 30, 2012.. that sucks after just winning the cup I was really into that game.. oh well i guess..any fixes for this would be great though

Nothing against Smetena as he obviously worked really hard on the project, but you might want to wait to see if the problem other people are having is resolved before you download it.

A question for all the EHM experts, if a player wants to be traded, will he ever change his mind? Will his play suffer?

I just finished my first season with the Sharks, loosing in the second round to Detroit. Nabokov's mentor Warren Strelow retires and he ask for a trade because he wants a new challenge. Nabby played nearly every game, is the clear franchise goalie and the Sharks are one of the top teams. I refused his trade request and will likely keep him until his contract is over.

So any tricks to lowering number of shots without losing offense?

I have a decent defense lead by Neidermayer and Lidstrom (albeit a 40 year old and not as dominant), and i have Luongo as my goalie. Though i somehow face 40-50 shots every game, while my team gets around 25 shots.

players with high positioning and speed would be a start then a defensive tactic that is aggressive on the backcheck. Take a look at how many turn overs your team is getting and adjust your pass settings to safe if need be.

...love how much can be done with tactics...I mean, i played at least 25 seasons, in this game bevore I started that one, so my exp. really helps me to find the right tactics, and to use my guys in the best way...

ps: was luck that they had a contract bug with Crosby, who only earns 3.7 untill 2012, and I am very near the cap, even had to trade Fleury and Bouwmeester..

tipp for you:
let your guys become RFA's, and don't make offers to them untill half the season or so, and then sign them for small money, only risk, they go to abbraction(sp??)..

Now that the semester is winding down and my two research papers are done I'm picking back up on the pre-UFA roster project. I've already finished assigning players rights to the teams that drafted them as well as adding a few prospects for the 08 draft. That was about 2/3rds of the work as I shouldn't have much problem moving players around that are already in the database.
With that said I need a bit of help. Does anyone know where I can get a list of NHL transactions from the 06-07 season right up to the start of Unrestricted Free Agency? AHL and CHL ones would be welcome too but the NHL ones are necessary for this roster pack.

they wont forget about it if they want a new challenge, they will be happy when they are on a different team. nabokov was unhappy in my last game for like 3-4 years. and he was on the block the entire time, but they never traded him.

If you have Crosby, Thornton, Heatley, Kovalchuk, Semin, Malkin,.. all in one team, I don't think it really matters what kind of tactics you use. And if I may ask, how much is the salary cap in your game?

Anyways, I started a new game with the London Knights a while ago. I updated their team as close to the Knights in real life as I could, so with guys like Maroon, Roth, etc. Here's a recap of what happened so far:

06/07 - Led by the offensive trio of Gagner, Kane and Kostitsyn, we finished on top of the Western Conference and were by far the highest scoring team in the league (8 games where we scored 10 or more goals). However, our young defence couldn't handle the playoff pressure as we lost the WCF against Guelph in 6 games. Vancouver Giants won the Memorial Cup against Guelph.

07/08 - Gagner and Kane were back, and we were chosen as Memorial Cup hosts so we had a lot to look forward to. We added a big piece to the team with import draft pick Lars Eller, and with our defence a year older, we dominated throughout the season. Again we won the conference, and this time we beat Guelph in the WCF. In the OHL finals, we swept Sudbury. We captured a great season with a perfect record at the Memorial Cup on home ice by beating Gatineay, Vancouver, Sudbury and Gatineau again in the final.

08/09 - During the offseason, we traded away Kane. He wasn't signed by his NHL team, but I wasn't prepared to risk the fact he might still get signed somewhere in september so I sent him to Brampton for Matt Duchene. We had a lot of guys back from last year; Gagner, Eller, Taylor, McRae, Bodker, DeHart, Roth and overagers Montgomery and Maroon. We added AJ Jenks from Plymouth while he was at NHL training camp. For the third time in a row we finished first in the conference, and had to deal with Guelph in the CF. We beat them, again, and swept Peterborough in the OHL final. Rimouski hosted the Memorial Cup, but Q champions Saint-John were by far the best team in the tournament as they beat us twice, in overtime during the group stage, and again in the final.

09/10 After 2 amazing years, most of our topguns were off to the NHL. Taylor, Roth and Duchene were our best guys, other than that, we had a lot of rookies and it showed as we finished 6th and lost in the first round of the playoffs. We made a few trades to get some prospects, and with a lot of draftpicks in the upcoming draft it will be interesting to see how we develop in the next few years.

I was in intense series with the Devils in the Eastern Conference Semis, two best teams in the league. I was ahead 3-2 after game 5 and then Lecavalier tore his ACL and I lost the last two games in double OT.

There's a bug with Smetana's rosters for now. I'm sure he (and his crew, if he had some...) are working on this now. Just be patient.
I never had any bug with the game before. That is, until 3.0.4. came out.

I currently have a pick whose rights are about to expire, but when I attempt to sign him, my "board" rejects it saying that they wont allow it because it is unrealistic.

Has anyone else come across/solved this problem? He is a blue chip prospect that I really don't want to lose the rights to.

Try to lower his salary a bit. Often highly touted prospects want $875.000 a year or so, while they still might sign at $800.000 or even less.

As soon as my team said it was unrealistic to sign him (he was asking $950 for 3 years) my scouts started calling him a potential depth 5-6 guy. What the f?

He was pursued by almost all the teams when on the FA market (something strange in itself, if my scouts were correct in calling him a 5-6 guy), but I was able to sign him miraculously.

After training camp, my coach stated that he will never be good enough to crack the lineup regularly. (???)

So I started him in the AHL, still very confused. He ended up racking it up, having a Rating around 9.00 as a 20yr old. Also, it should be noted that he played in the U-20 tournament the year before and was the first star every single game.

I have great scouts, and a good coach, so what gives? Do I just ignore them and follow his Rating? Or am I putting too much faith into his Rating?

Has anyone else had a similar scenario?

Give him time. Sometimes scouts can be wrong about a player, even if they're 20J, 20P. If you have a great offer for him, however...

Right now, I'm playing with Pens666 (what his name here anyways?) 79-80 mod. I selected Chris Chelios with an early 2nd rounder. My scouts keep having different opinions of him --- either 1-2, or either 5-6. I don't know the rating he gave to Chelios (but it's probably -15, -9 or -10, if you're familiar with that ranking, I just cannot see it any other way. Maybe -14 but that would be stretching it. I could happen. -8 could be possible, but even then, he would be a 3-4th, or even a 1-2nd.

I don't know if you're familiar with the -8,-9.... thing.... but I'll explain it.

-10 is anthing ranging from Sergei Zubov to Bobby Orr.
-9 is anything ranging from Anton Volchenkov to Chris Pronger
-8 is anything ranging from ... let's throw out any AVERAGE 2nd pairing guy to Tomas Kaberle.

-15 is the average second pairing guy to ... Denis Potvin

I've noticed that after a while players from outside the Big 7 start popping up in the draft after acouple years, does anyone know if they actual become players at all? This is a stupid bias of mine.

I have one Italin prospect Daniel Cantore (not sure if he's real) but he looks like he has a future as a fast skating enforcer.

I've seen it happen. Had an Italian defender once at Rimouski, he got drafted and became a solid 3rd pairing guy in the NHL. In my last game I've seen goalies from the Netherlands and Iceland, and skaters from South-Korea, Hungary and the UK all get drafted.

There was a Dutch player who is drafted in the second round in my game, but he never really improved from where he was as a 17 year old. He played a few years in the AHL but never got a chance at the NHL.

For this years draft, there is a kid from Belgium, he is ranked in the 30s and is definately the best player in the Draft right now, though it remains to be seen whether he can improve any further.

What the...

I noticed that there was a very good, young assistant coach on the market. A short time later I also noticed that I somehow missed the retirement of my head-coach. Because by assistant coaches aren't as good as this young coach, I offered him the job as a head-coach, which he refused.
Which led me to making one of my assistant coaches the head coach and trying to sign him as an assistant, which he accepted.

A few days later, Odessa (CHL) suddenly announces him as their new GM/head coach, and I can't get him back.
They didn't make an offer for him, not that someone in an NHL-position would habe accepted such an offer anyway, so how could they sign him?

The first somewhat decent coach on the market since at least two or three years ago, and he leaves me for some very obscure reason... :shakehead

Simple...the coach obviously didn't feel like he was ready to lead an NHL club, but wanted to get some more experiance as an assistant first. Then the oppertunity to coach his son in the CHL popped up and he couldn't refuse!! Ok, I'm grasping at straws...unfortunatly the game isn't perfect. Variables are thrown into the game where players don't always pick the top $$$....just like in real life, but sometimes you end up with unusual results.

after 3 and 5 seasons...

I think it's safe to say all seasons with smetana roster will end in crash. It's unfortunate as I can not even imagine the 100's of hours he spent working on that. Hopefully it is something that can be worked out.

Other then 2 semanta's crashes, I have never lost a season....I've played upwards of 200+ seasons, so I think that classifies this as a reliable game.
Make sure you have "Rolling saves" on, and automatic saves each month. That way, worst case scenerio if you do hit a glich, the most you lose is one month. I have had my computer crash mid-save, but because of the rolling saves I lost only a month....which sucks, but is workable.

Most points for me (note i am in 2013 right now) is wojtek wolski i belive he is the leading point getter every year and his tops was 140 i think

Whats the best defensive lines you have mustered up. Right now I have Redden (picked up as a UFA) who is the best in the league, Kubina only 5-6 dman but is on the top pair and is avreging an 8.50 rating a game, Liles, Leopold are both 3-4 defenseman playing above 7.25. The last 3 on my roster are Matt Smamby, I encouraged him to fight on a trial basis. He ended up with 150 pim in 10 games while still maintining a 7.30 rating average, Steven Lund 2008 1st round pick played extemely well 2 seasons ago now is playing decently, and lastly Artem Dubini also a 2008 pick still hasnt played a full season I think hes only played 10 games tops but in the first 30 minor league games he played in this year he had an 8.20 avrg so he deserves to be on the roster

also my board will only give me 2 million to spend on paul stastyny he is nd best player and onl wants 2.2 but they wont let me spend it.....we are 6 mil below the cap and about 15 mil below budget so we have the money any suggestions tget him signed

Try changing his player status, they will only give you so much money. If he's already set on key, just keep simming and try simulating him later.. I've been under the cap and they've told me I was over and then I sim a couple days and I'm under the cap again.

Actually, it's the other CHL, not junior hockey ;)
I might have understood it if he had accepted their offer instead of mine, although it would have been weird. But to have him sign with me, come to the team, and leave after a few days without getting an offer is really weird.

Oh well, I found a good replacement in the third Russian division ;)

I've been restricted on spending for my staff... Annoying for those 18-18 and more scouts who requests 1.1 M$ for 4 years, while your board only offers 250000$. And it really sucks a some point because there a few staff left by some point.

you are never allowed to give a scout more the 250 000 pr season. just give them a signing bonus. usually works for me.

you are never allowed to give a scout more the 250 000 pr season. just give them a signing bonus. usually works for me.

Not true. You can never offer an unemployed scout over 250k. You can however, sign him as an assistant coach for up to 700k, then offer a new contract as a scout for up to 700k and it will let you pay him up to that 700k. I always roll with 4 assistants so that I can keep one assistant slot open for this purpose. You'll find that after 2009, a lot of fantastic scouts become available, and wont sign with other teams because they want too much money. Using this tactic, you'll have an awesome scouting staff.

Also, the salary cap gets recalculated around October 1 of every year. If you have RFAs to re-sign, qualify them with a long-term deal for very little money. Re-sign the UFAs you'd like to retain, and if you're still having trouble signing that RFA, wait until October 1 to try and sign him. His attributes will not go down by a whole lot, and he'll probably be willing to sign for quite a bit less than he had intended on. The game doesn't seem to know that offer sheets are a feature, so you don't have to worry about that, but the AI will take you to arbitration every now and then. If you still can't fit that RFA under the cap, you might have to trade away a player to make room for him.

If you want to pick up some cheap talent, you can target players who are on the IR. Players who are only injured for a few weeks don't tend to come with a heavy discount, but if they're on the shelf for 4 months or more, you can usually get them pretty cheaply. If the player has recently been placed on the IR, the team probably has yet to re-value the player, so wait until he has been on the IR for about a month. I traded Eminger and a 3rd round pick for Eric Staal. If you are on bad terms with your board, don't try this. They always get mad when you trade away assets for someone who is injured. The fans and the board are almost always furious after you do this, but they'll also commend you for adding a big name to the team. :shakehead

God, my team is so frustrating.. I go through to March being the top in my division, 3rd in the conference.. and every year I slump ridiculously and can't win any games and end up way out of a play-off spot..

There's part of your problem. That used to happen to me too. I think the game must be trying to stress the importance of veteran presence in playoff runs. You also have to consider the fact that most of the playoff caliber teams are going to be taking talent away from the bottom dwellers at the trade deadline. When you are about a week from the trade deadline, take a look at your March schedule. If you're playing a lot of playoff bound teams, you might want to be amongst the teams who is bulking up on talent, as they're going to be harder to play against.

I'd also recommend filling your bottom lines with veteran role-players. Jason Blake is pretty much an ideal third liner in the game. If you trade for him early on, he'll re-sign for around 1.5, and can fill in on the second line if injuries dictate. It is also a good idea to have vets on your bottom defensive pairing. Guys who have a rating if "9" or "10" for speed and acceleration don't seem to be a liability when they're defensemen. Structuring your team that way will allow you to give your young core a lot of icetime, while still keeping the vets that you'll need for a playoff run.
