Do you guys anticipate Nieds sticking around for a couple more seasons or leaving the game (again) after this year? Has he given any sort of indication?
Nieds to retire after 07-08?BINGOV 12-16-2007, 09:17 AM Do you guys anticipate Nieds sticking around for a couple more seasons or leaving the game (again) after this year? FissionFire 12-16-2007, 02:24 PM I think the team is basically counting on him to retire, which is why none of the defense was traded. If he sticks around, it'll put the team in a real bind with getting Perry signed and you could see another period of scrambling to try and open cap space in the offseason. Not really a terrible problem to have. Rec T 12-16-2007, 05:52 PM I'm sure that Burke had a (probably one sided) talk with him that there would be a decision made before the end of this season (even if it wasn't made public). The team doesn't need the constant distraction & he (Burke) doesn't need to be in a position of ZERO power in negotiations with other clubs. One time is allowed given what he's done within the game, not twice though. S.S. Giggy 12-16-2007, 07:03 PM Burke already said it to the media that Scott's only given this once and that they won't go through it again. Not only that, he also said that Scotty's only coming back just for this season and that's why Burke traded McDonald away to St. Louis. The scenario that Ducks fans should be hoping for is him coming back for the final year of his contract in 2008-09, and then the Ducks simply dump Schneider off on someone for a draft pick (or whatever he can fetch) in the the Summer. Diehardduck 12-18-2007, 01:32 AM It`s intresting to see how Burke and SNieds handle this situation. What I want to know is what burke doing at the deadline. The next 2 months /20-25 games are very important. Yes, we have a killer defense, perhaps the best in the last 20 years. But if we don`t score goals we can`t win games!! If the ducks only play .500 hockey and loosing ground in the standings then we are sellers: If SNieds is signing his retirement paper for the end of the season then give him a shoot for another cup run with a contender. Trade him at the deadline. The rest of his salary is with 1,7 Mil. affordable and we could get a return like Forsberg last year!! The first part I heard, but I don't believe the other part(that Scott was only coming back for this season) was said. Do you have a link? I did hear that Scotty was only playing for certain this season. From my understanding, there has been no decision on next season. Rotten 12-18-2007, 10:51 AM There is one good thing about S. Nieds officially retiring -- we'll finally be able to get rid of his lousy brother. He was horrible last season. Like an instant turnover. Diggy 12-19-2007, 01:23 AM There is one good thing about S. Well, you two might think that, but it was not the lines with Getz or Teemu that made the difference in the playoffs last season... it was the checking line. There is more to the game then fighting and scoring. Rob plays an incredibly important roll for us along with Paulson, Moan, and Marchant...and even Miller is following in those footsteps although everyone here hates him because he does not fight or score. Randall Graves* 12-19-2007, 04:49 AM I am likely in the minority but I believe he will play next year unless he feels as worn down as he did before. He got a taste of retirement and made it sound like he really wasn't ready for it, he knows he's still an elite player and not a guy barely hanging on. If he had his heart set on retirement I believe he would have called it quits, Schneider is a very good player himself and with defensemen at a premium it wouldn't be that hard to move him in July and still get good value. Some folks are in love with Parros and actually think NHLers are scared of him, but most here know come playoff time he'll resume his natural spot as a healthy scratch and Carter and Miller will play up front and contribute even more than last year now that they have more experience! | ||
