To inform the defensemen, but also, should the ref be wavering on the icing call or something, I'm sure there's a little bit of intent there to try and make up the ref's mind.

I figured as such. Vancouver was missing Luongo, Morrisson, and Bieksa and had 2 guys come up from the AHL. A can't-lose game. So that means the Ducks have to lose. Especially since they won last game, so it means we'd be back to win-lose-win-lose. And don't forget the backup goalie = shutout or 1 goal game rule.

I'm actually not sure the Ducks really dominated the 3rd quite as much as you'd expect. They got plenty of shots, but a lot were from outside. A lot of cycling, but again it was all outside. Sort of reminds me of Edmonton a couple years ago, except with fewer blocke shots.

Horrific game. I've never seen such a flat Ducks team tonight while at the game (well a few times this year). DiPenta sucks. He had lots to do with losing tonight, as well as a $6.5M dollar man that should have at least made it more difficult to score on. He needed to step up. This game was not even close. My bad. Referring to Giggy ($6M). Yea, its a team effort, but he needs to step it up. You can blame D (D=Defense and DiPenta!)for a couple of breakaways, but that's why you have Superman between the posts. He has missed quite a few of those this year. It's a good thing that Pronger and Schnieder can score. I dont want to imagine what we would be without them.

Giguere needs to step up his game big time. He is ranked 23rd in the NHL right now for GAA and 23rd for Save %. As far as I'm concerned he hasn't been worth his money this season so far.

I'm not saying he won't improve, I really hope he does, we have a lot invested in him and our backup is a rookie.

****ing 23rd.

I hate to say this, but i'd rather keep Bryz than Giguere. Giggy hasnt been dominant at all this year.

My bad. Referring to Giggy ($6M). Yea, its a team effort, but he needs to step it up. You can blame D (D=Defense and DiPenta!)for a couple of breakaways, but that's why you have Superman between the posts. He has missed quite a few of those this year.
... le sigh.

Did you see the goals scored on him last night? By contrast did you see guys like Marchant and Sutherby fire shots with wide open cages into Sanford's chest last night?

Oh ****! I didn't realize the reason Giguere is letting in an average of 3 goals a game is because Marchant and Sutherby can't hit the other net.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Last night I was. I do not think any of Vancouver's goals were his fault we had a defensive break down on all of them.

I am not sure if Carlyle is trying to run the defensive play of the team differently this year but it is just not as good. We do not have forwards coming back to help as much and are often making defensive mistakes in our own end. I don't think we even have a neutral zone defensive strategy this year, although given the number of odd man rushes we keep giving other teams any neutral zone strategy is probably a moot point.

I watch every game. But that's not the point, the point is that Giguere hasn't been near the top of his game all season.

Ho hum. Another loss. We've had a few of those.

I don't think Giguere was particularly bad. I don't think he was particularly good either.

Meh. I feel like Giguere is typically a stronger 2nd half goaltender than a 1st half goaltender (just my impression, like how he willed us into the playoffs in 06). Hopefully this holds true again this year. I'd say he's certainly not the problem of the team, but he's also not playing like a 6 million dollar goaltender. I feel like there's only been a few games that he's won for us, and with the team playing as inconsistently as it has, it would be huge to have more great goaltending performances.

This game, on the other hand, he was fine. I place more blame on DiPenta. DiPenta didn't prevent the pass on the 2 on 1, that's his job shut that down so Giguere can focus on the puck carrier. Although it was a pretty good pass. And Beauchemin/Pahlsson on the 3rd goal for doubling on the other guy.

Yeah. As that 2 on 1 was happening, I was thinking DiPenta is the last guy I want defending it.

Sure enough.

He's not the reason they're a .500 team.

I didn't say that he was. I stand by my comments about Giguere. Of course the rest of the team is having problems, but I wasn't talking about them. If you actually read my comment, you'll see that there was no blaming Giguere for the loss, only stating that his game isn't anywhere near where it should be right now.

In any case, here is a link to an online college. Try taking a reading comprehension class. Feel free to thank me when you're done. :sarcasm:

Obviously if you bring up Giguere's name as not playing well following a bad loss in which the other team's starting goalie didn't even play, there is something at work where you are inherently looking at Giguere being a problem. I think he is among the least of their problems this year.

First off I wouldn't consider 3-2 a bad loss. However, when your $6,000,000 goaltender is letting in an average of 3 goals every game there is a lot of room for improvement. Just because I didn't feel like mentioning that Marchant has hands of stone doesn't mean that I don't recognize it. I expect that from Marchant, we all know how he plays.

Giguere however can be better and needs to be better and that's what I felt like commenting on.

His career GAA is 2.48, it's at 2.61 right now. His SA% is basically the same as Turco's right now. The majority of goals being scored against him are predominantly big time scoring chances being funneled to him by lack of mental accumen from his teammates. He relies on positioning and it's hard to do that when your team is giving up 2-1's and watching pucks all the time.

But he's Joey "Dependable!" Although Joe "DiPenta-bly beat wide" is probably more accurate.

Didn't Bertuzzi get a stick on the second goal? sure looked like

i could be wrong.lol

ohhhh guess i was right huh..lol

"Dec 15 Bertuzi has scored in back-to-back games for the first time this season. Bertuzzi finished with a goal, but the Ducks suffered a 5-2 home loss to the Minnesota Wild on Friday night. He also provided the final margin with 1:31 left in regulation of Anaheim's 3-2 home loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday."
