Does Pronger give up the 'C'?

Sorry if this has been asked or answered, but I'm just curious. Does Scotty get the captaincy when he returns, and if so, was it offered by Pronger or a move made by the staff?

IMO, Pronger will offer it to Scotty but I don't think it would be accepted.

The staff will not change it. Burke stated it explicitly multiple times. Pronger may offer it to Scotty, but only of his own accord.

I seem to remember an article from the preseason saying that Scotty was happy with Pronger getting the C and he wouldn't take it from him if he came back. Or something like that.

I just wonder if Pronger willingly gives the captaincy back to Scotty...

He might, Leetch gave it back to Mess, I don't see this much different.

what about injuries?

When Straka was injured, Drury got it. Was it possible for the Rangers to still let him have it when Straka came back, or is it up to Drury, or Straka?

With injuries i assume getzlaf gets an A... I guess they could give the guy who sat out part of a season a letter back, but carlyle wouldn't do it. He'll be whatever leader he needs to be. I just doubt he'll get a letter. Especially since he doesn't even know if he's playing next year. Letters go to committed guys... (at least with the ducks)

This is sort of off topic, but why was Niedermayer even the captain last year? Why wasn't it Selanne?

Re-read his question.
He said "why" not "was"

Burke allready answered your questions: True leaders dont need C or A in their chest :)

The coaches felt Nieds was the better choice. And obviously they had very good success the past two seasons with Scott as captain, so it looks good.

Teemu wasn't even an alternate, but Burke was quoted as saying something to the effect of you don't need a letter on your sweater to be a leader.
