Sandman33 12-05-2007, 09:00 PM Since no-one made a game day thread today I guess I will. I cant post any pics bc Im at work.
SORRY!
ANAHEIM DUCKS
:ducks
vs
BUFFALO SABRES
:sabres
MOENing 12-05-2007, 09:05 PM This contest also will be the first NHL matchup between brothers Ryan and Drew Miller.
Ryan, the Sabres' starting goaltender, won a career-high 40 games in 2006-07, and is 5-1-0 with a 1.84 goals-against average since Nov. 16. Overall this season, he's 10-10-1 with a 2.52 GAA.
Drew Miller, a rookie left wing for Anaheim, has just two goals and two assists in 19 games but hasn't registered a point in six straight.
"It's going to be weird," Drew Miller said. "I want to score on him and he wants to stop me. That's the name of the game. He's definitely a great goalie. Any way to score would be great. I know if I get shots on the net and I don't score, he's going to chirp for awhile."
Make it Rain.
snarktacular 12-05-2007, 09:12 PM This'll be fun. From the Register
Ryan called it a "little strange," while Drew said "It's definitely going to be weird. You're out there competing. I want to score and hit him, and he wants to stop me so (that's) the name of the game."
It will also signify an accomplishment that both made it to the NHL and continued the Miller bloodline. Cousins Kip, Kevin and Kelly played in the NHL in the 1980s.
"We've talked about it a long time," Ryan said. "He said if we ever went to the NHL he's going to run me."
Drew remembers those conversations.
"We had one of those last night," he said. "If I get a chance I'm going to try to bump into him a little bit."
I would say that 174 pound Drew running over anyone wouldn't do much, but on the other hand Ryan only weights 166(!).
Joe Canada 12-05-2007, 09:20 PM This time last year, Buffalo vs. Anaheim would have been the most talked about game in the league. Tonight, however, the losing team will end up being at or below .500. =\

Hockey Duckie 12-05-2007, 10:07 PM Just seeing on the ticker and hearing it from Hazy... Scotty's back! OMG... i don't think I care about the game now. I'm on a natural high just from that info!!!!

McDonald19 12-05-2007, 10:13 PM 1-0 Buf
how do they get a 2 on 0 break?
snarktacular 12-05-2007, 10:14 PM 2 on 0? Yeah that's a goal against.
snarktacular 12-05-2007, 10:16 PM Platt's wearing Rucchin's old number. I miss Rucchin.
kducks 12-05-2007, 10:22 PM Platt's wearing Rucchin's old number. I miss Rucchin.
+1 :(
kducks 12-05-2007, 10:24 PM Kunie with the twins, I love this line
Fighter 12-05-2007, 10:26 PM A second rounder for a healthy scratch.
That second for Parros made more sense.
YAY for Nieds return! :handclap:
Will it be enough?
snarktacular 12-05-2007, 10:28 PM I always thought Paille was pronounced "Pail." Haha. So then Carrol's talking about this Pai-ye, and I'm like "Logan Pyatt? I thought "beautiful eyes" played in Vancouver?"

snarktacular 12-05-2007, 10:30 PM Sigh. Fights suck on the radio.
Sounds like Parros won. Hopefully this gives the team a kick in the ass.
Oh, and

kducks 12-05-2007, 10:33 PM Not much of a scrum they each got a few shots in.
SCORE!!!!!!!! Huskins!
cmcdmania 12-05-2007, 10:34 PM Andy Mac's not invisible tonight.
McDonald19 12-05-2007, 10:36 PM A second rounder for a healthy scratch.
That second for Parros made more sense.
Are you talking about Sutherby? He has a groin injury.
Hockey Duckie 12-05-2007, 10:37 PM Andy Mac's not invisible tonight.
That's because they found another speedy linemate in Platt. Platt's looked good out there. So far he's helped with scoring.
Ducksforcup 12-05-2007, 10:42 PM Platt and Parros looked really good. Very good period besides the one breakdown. Me happy. :)
snarktacular 12-05-2007, 10:44 PM Y'know what's the surprise of the night? Not Niedermayer, because that was hinted at yesterday by McKenzie. But Joe DiPenta got a point!
kducks 12-05-2007, 11:04 PM Ok, anyone else feeling like Scott's announcement has made a HUGE impact on this team already??
Duckstudd269 12-05-2007, 11:10 PM What are the lines guys?
And just thought of this, does anyone else think Brad May is going to be moved? Isn't his salary kind of high for a 4th liner? I can't remember, but if Platt is doing this well, would the team really need to keep may when parros is a better enforcer and they seem to be similar in talent as well. Maybe May and Marchant are dealt or May and O'Donnell?

No, May is only making 600,000 and he is needed for the playoffs.
McDonald19 12-05-2007, 11:14 PM What are the lines guys?
Kunitz-Getzlaf-Perry
Platt-McDonald-Bertuzzi
Moen-Pahlsson-Niedermayer
Miller-Marchant-Parros
Pronger-O'Donnell
Schneider-Beauchemin
Huskins-DiPenta
cmcdmania 12-05-2007, 11:22 PM There's Schneider with the PP goal again.
snarktacular 12-05-2007, 11:23 PM Schneider saw my complaining about his performance in the special teams. And he decided to score to prove me wrong.
kducks 12-05-2007, 11:34 PM Bert off a sweet pass from Andy Mac
McDonald19 12-05-2007, 11:34 PM wow that looked like McDonald to Selanne there...
nice to see Bert get one and McDonald with the great pass.
3-1 Ducks
kducks 12-05-2007, 11:35 PM Getz just got a penalty
snarktacular 12-05-2007, 11:43 PM The radio has spent the past half hour talking about penetrating the zone. Oh, the entendre.
Ducksforcup 12-05-2007, 11:44 PM Wow, what a period. Man, they looked good there. That penalty by Getz worries me, but I can't complain when the Ducks outshot the Sabres 16-3.
kducks 12-05-2007, 11:50 PM Yes, it was a great period. Let's keep our fingers crossed that they don't sit back on their heels and the lead.
Sandman33 12-05-2007, 11:52 PM I hope everyone plays hard today in celebration!!
And thanks for the GDT, Sandman.
No prob man.
Sorry it wasnt as nice as the others.
I hope Schnieder has a great Channukah and GO DUCKS!
Duckstudd269 12-05-2007, 11:59 PM No, May is only making 600,000 and he is needed for the playoffs.
wow for some reason I was thinking that he was making much more then that. I guess I was wrong. Thanks Mac for the clear up and thanks for the line combos as well. How's Bertuzzi and platt playing?
With those lines it really looks like Marchant is gone for sure, and if a defender is traded I'm hoping it's O'Donnell or Hindy. It would probably have to be O'Donnell though. Lineup would look something like this:
Kunitz-Getzlaf-Perry
Platt-McDonald-Bertuzzi
Moen-Pahlsson-R.Niedermayer
May/Miller-Sutherby-Parros
S.Niedermayer-Beauchemin
Pronger-Schneider
Huksins-Hindy/Dipenta
Jiggy
Hiller
Miller could be sent down. With Mowers gone we won't have an extra forward in the pressbox. I wonder if Miller will be sent down so he can get more playing time?
kducks 12-06-2007, 12:01 AM Bert fighting now!
kducks 12-06-2007, 12:02 AM Nice Round 2 for Parros and Peters!
snarktacular 12-06-2007, 12:05 AM What gives? Buffalo is the team that's so soft the hfboards members all chose PINK avatars. And there's 3 fights in this game?
kducks 12-06-2007, 12:08 AM What gives? Buffalo is the team that's so soft the hfboards members all chose PINK avatars. And there's 3 fights in this game?
I was just thinking the same thing. What is it about this Ducks team this year that they can play like crap and turn around and play a game like this one! :shakehead
McDonald19 12-06-2007, 12:08 AM Bert should do that more often.
Parros and Peters hate each other.
Duckstudd269 12-06-2007, 12:08 AM how did bert and parros look in their fights? did they win them? did parros really win his first fight?
cmcdmania 12-06-2007, 12:09 AM Bert should do that more often.
Parros and Peters hate each other.
What kind of history do they have?
McDonald19 12-06-2007, 12:11 AM What kind of history do they have?
Just one fight in 05-06 when Parros was with the Kings.
kducks 12-06-2007, 12:13 AM Another penalty on the Ducks right after they killed off the one on Kunitz. Prongs for interference.
McDonald19 12-06-2007, 12:13 AM how did bert and parros look in their fights? did they win them? did parros really win his first fight?
Bert did well. He looked really mad and all Gaustad wanted to do was tackle him but Bert landed a good punch and took him down.
Parros I think lost his balance in the 2nd fight. And then they were punching each other while the linesmen were trying to break them up.
round 1 was a good fight, probably a draw.
snarktacular 12-06-2007, 12:17 AM Man these teams don't like each other do they? Scrums after almost every whistle.
kducks 12-06-2007, 12:17 AM Perry!!!!
Goal under review.....
cmcdmania 12-06-2007, 12:17 AM Schneider with an assist on the pp goal by Perry.
Though it's under review at the moment.
McDonald19 12-06-2007, 12:19 AM why do they even review these?
Unless its a complete soccer kick it should count if it goes off a skate.
snarktacular 12-06-2007, 12:19 AM Our winger who isn't as good as Higgins deflects Beauchemin's shot.
snarktacular 12-06-2007, 12:20 AM why do they even review these?
Unless its a complete soccer kick it should count if it goes off a skate.
Quite honestly I don't even see why a soccer kick should be illegal.
kducks 12-06-2007, 12:20 AM It counts!
Chone 12-06-2007, 12:25 AM Platt is like a good Ryan Shannon.
kducks 12-06-2007, 12:25 AM Parros with a great move, lol
snarktacular 12-06-2007, 12:25 AM Aww, Platt wanted his first Ducks goal. But Miller says "meet Mr. pokecheck."
Duckstudd269 12-06-2007, 12:27 AM are the line combos staying consistent or is carlyle switching them up?
kducks 12-06-2007, 12:30 AM are the line combos staying consistent or is carlyle switching them up?
Staying the same, Carlyle seems to like them
kducks 12-06-2007, 12:35 AM Great 60 mintue effort from the guys FINALLY!
kducks 12-06-2007, 12:36 AM Nice more fighting after the game!
McDonald19 12-06-2007, 12:36 AM cheap hit by Pratt.
no reason to throw a hit like that with 4 seconds left in the game.
cmcdmania 12-06-2007, 12:39 AM And both Millers will leave the game somewhat content: one won the game while the other didn't get scored on by his brother.
Ducksforcup 12-06-2007, 12:39 AM Great, entertaining win tonight. Good stuff! :yo:
kducks 12-06-2007, 12:40 AM Great to see Drew and Ryan hug after the game.
Don't know why these teams hate each other so much, but this was a great game!
snarktacular 12-06-2007, 12:41 AM Has Buffalo ever fought this much in a game? Ha.
See I expected Anaheim to have brought this intensity to the last Edmonton game, after getting blown out 5-1.
Too bad Drew didn't get a goal against his brother. Not that Drew ever scores goals.
What is it with Buffalo having guys that sound like other guys? Paille/Pyatt. Sekera/Sykora. Kotalik/Kovalev. Roy/Roy (although they don't actually sound alike). Spacek/Hasek
Duckstudd269 12-06-2007, 12:43 AM glad to see the Ducks with a solid game. Every guy is playing for their spot the team right now. With Scotty coming back the players know that someone is on the way out, and they are playing their hearts out to try and keep their spot on the team.
Static 12-06-2007, 12:45 AM Platt is a nagging little *******. I like him.

Yeah, I do too. He'll be up here for a while IMO. Really solid trade by Burkey.

Jezz* 12-06-2007, 12:57 AM Looks like Huskins hurt his knee at the end of the 2nd, he limped off into the locker room, and didn't play the 3rd.
Has Perry's skating gotten worse, or has he just gotten the attention of the old Matt Cullen sniper in the rafters?
Loooovved seeing Bertuzzi drop the gloves, although all I could think about is "don't get concussion. don't get concussion."

Ducks 12-06-2007, 01:21 AM aside from the defensive lapse in the start it was a great game I thought. I really thought that our 4th line played an excellent game tonight, they were constantly putting pressure on the other team's net and taking shots.
Platt definitely has potential, it will be interesting to see if he sticks, I think Sutherby could replace Marchant if we deal or waive him, and that would leave a spot on the roster for Platt if he earns it.
overall a much overdue win, and some very exciting news today that makes getting to the playoffs not seem so out of reach now.
iHATEbeauch23 12-06-2007, 01:21 AM greatest atmosphere of the year so far. Scotts comin back. man am i gonna sleep easy tonight.
Elvstrand 12-06-2007, 01:31 AM I think this was the first time this season McDonald collected more than one point in one game...
Ducksforcup 12-06-2007, 01:36 AM And for the first time in forever, they were the better line than the kid line. I hope that Caryle keeps these lines for a while. They looked GOOD! :D
Rotten 12-06-2007, 01:42 AM Man, that was a great game - possibly Anaheim's best of the season.
This team is so somewhat inconsistent. Tonight's game was one of the best games they have played. However, a couple of days ago they played the worst hockey I have seen them play all season. I hope this trend doesn't continue and they keep the momentum going.

lux_interior 12-06-2007, 03:49 AM Great game. Had it all, plus we won.
What was up with Peters at the end of the game? Was he like punching himself in the face or what?:biglaugh:
Lyons71 12-06-2007, 04:01 AM What a weird game. The Sabres just kinda rolled over in that game. They felt content to play in their own end after the first.
Hey, the Ducks got a lucky bounce in this game!!!!! What do you know! Right after the Vanek miss (that was brutal) the puck goes in off McDonald. Just what the doctor ordered.
Before that Vanek miss, this game mirrored the two Edmonton games. But then, Buffalo just sat back and stopped battling... :dunno:
Yay for points.
CrossCheck 12-06-2007, 06:46 AM Platt's a keeper, thats for sure!

Thanks for the clip rotten.
Slight edge Parros in the first bout, he landed a pair of good punches early in the fight.
Bert is just too much for Gaustad, he landed the only two solid shots of the scrap.
Parros landed two good punches, the first one sent Peters' heltmet flying but then he lost balance. Peters is a chicken to continue punching while Parros is down. Edge Parros again here.

I'd say a draw on the first fight, possibly slight edge to Parros.
Second round again more of the same this time slight edge to Peters as he landed a few good ones near the end.
Gaustad and Bertuzzi, I'm sorry, if Bertuzzi wouldn't have held on for dear life he would have gotten beat severly. Gaustad is a big guy who doesn't fight often but when he does man handles his opponents. This one again I say was a draw.
You guys have a real good team there glad we will be able to see the teams every year. I could do with out alot of that interference I saw which was not called. However the ducks clearly deserved to win. Just wonder if it would have been different if money bags vanek would ever finish and score a damned goal!
MOENing 12-06-2007, 11:22 AM Parros is doing good.
Nice to see that bert can score the goals that look awesome. Francios had some pretty nice shots. Every9one looked awesome.
snarktacular 12-06-2007, 11:34 AM After getting to see the highlights, I want to point out that that 2 on 0 has a lot to do with Perry. Schneider pinched, and Perry only half-assed his cover. Then when Buffalo is on the breakaway, Perry barely tries to skate back and cover Hecht. He may have been tired or something, but he probably should have been able to come back and cover Hecht.
Buffalo's PP looked good from whatever highlights I saw. Anaheim should watch them. Great puck movement, leading to more openings. More diagonal passes, and the point men rotating instead of just standing at the 2 bluelines. Our point men tend to just pass back and forth to each other and to a forward on their side of the ice. A pass to a forward on the other side, while harder, really opens up the ice.

Parros is playing quite well. He is getting a lot more scoring chances too.
Bertuzzi was awesome. Best player on the ice.
Fighter 12-06-2007, 08:19 PM Second round again more of the same this time slight edge to Peters as he landed a few good ones near the end.
I miss those good ones, he basically had only few rabbit punches while Parros landed a big one.

I would argue on who was holding on for dear life. Not certainly Bertuzzi, who's the only one trying to throw punches (and connected with two good ones).

Yeah, I was confused by that too. Gaustad didn't throw a single punch during that fight. In fact, he was the one that pushed Bert against the boards. Neither fighter was holding on for dear life that is for sure. Both of them can certainly handle themselves.
