Nhl Network

Has anyones else coverage been a little wacky lately?? I know my father's cable as far as NHL network as well as my own has been inconsistant to say the least.

last nigth it said I did not recieve this service, and when I called cablevision they told me this was only a free preview and I would have to pay an additional 5 bucks a month. But this evening I checked it again and it came through????

I have 2 issues with this:

1. Cablevision are a bunch of crooks, dont you think that if it were a free preview dont you think that it would say free preview for the whole quater of the season, I cant help but think that CV and co. have no idea what is going on and seem to try by any means to jack up an already insane cable prices.

2. Now that it comes through for the classics games, cool shots, on the fly and ect...will they continue to blackout games?? This is beyond silly...what if I did give in last nigth and said I was going to pay the 5 bones??? Would I have been swindeled?

I know that people are going to say 5 bucks no big deal but as some things in life its just principle, anyways was wondering if anyone had any inside knowledge of what the hell is going on, as I am pretty sure CV has no idea.....Long story short as I said I didnt give in to paying the extra charge as I have centre ice too, but has anyone else had any problems liek this?

Well if it makes you feel better Comcast has the same policy and we didn't get the free preview, or at least I was never made aware of it. In fact, I didn't even know I had the channel because there was no actual announcement of it (usually they send a message to the cable box telling you of these things).

In case you haven't noticed though, cable companies **** you because they're allowed to, because their only competition is satellite which most people simply don't want.

You can pretty much thank the FCC for that, although there was some indication they might try to change it to add more competition to certain areas. But with how rich cable companies are, I'm sure their lobbying in Washington etc. will end this all pretty quickly and nothing will come of it.

I WISH I HAD IT!!!

But apparently there's no demand for it in my area, so we get screwed out of it!!

DirectTV has had it since it came out. No extra charges, it just showed up right next to the NFL Network.

I love my satellite, I don't know what the hell I was thinking with cable all those years.

The NHL network is great so far, as for the blackouts, some of the games are subject to contractual obligations and can only be shown in Canada or the US so depending on the day/game/carrier you may not get it.

Only complaint I have about it though is this:

Every commercial break they have the New York Rangers 1994 DVD on., I have to hear that goddamned 'MATTEAU MATTEAU MATTEAU" call every five minutes.

I still want to put my remote through the TV when it comes on.

NHL network is awesome and is full of a ton of info and post game stats and interviews that you cant get anywhere else in the US. I have cable and I get it with no problems... that along with the center ice package, is plenty of hockey for me to watch, it is nice seeing some western conference teams.

They added the NHL channel to my comcast but never bothered to tell me about it. Its the very last channel on the list but it is probably part of some sports package cause it says subscriber only.

Well the center ice guys told me that Direct TV owns the NHL network. Thats why its included. For Comcast I get Versus.

In Harford County you have to subscribe to a sports package. It sucks.

I switched from Cablvision to DirecTV a few years ago & I absolutely love having DirecTV. It turned out to be cheaper than cable & I was able to get TiVo (& record two stations at the same time) as part of the deal. It’s also great to have channels like NHL Network & NFL Network added at no extra cost.

Cablevision pissed me off a few years back when I had them and was able to watch all the Devils games with no problem until about a week or two left in the season, when all the games started to get blacked out. I believe this was back when they finally settled with the YES Network and decided to make the sports package a higher tier. I needed to get a cable box to do so (which I didn’t have) & the nearest place to pick one up was something like 25 miles away (since they had previously used Nobody Beats the Wiz, which were all closing down at the time). Bottom line was I couldn’t watch any of the Devils playoff games that year after having them on the entire season. It also sucked to be paying however much a month to the company that owns the Rangers and blows ridiculous sums of money on the Knicks…and then passes those costs onto consumers.

About the NHL Network, it is really annoying that they run the same damn commercials over and over again. Honestly, they can’t have more than 6-8 different commercials that run on that network…in addition to hearing about the Rangers reliving their glory year, you also get to hear stuff like Daryl Sittler tell the story of the night he set the single game point record every 15 minutes. I wonder if they actually have any real advertising for the network up in Canada. Also, what’s up with the scroll on the bottom of the screen – it takes up a decent chunk of space but instead of giving the latest scores or something, all it does is tell people to go to NHL.com and check out the new RBK jerseys…and it’s up on the screen all the time, not like it just appears every once in a while.

Direct TV also. The best channel ever created for us hockey nuts. However, my wife hates it.

The DISH and DIRECTV programmers have fixed the nutty bug that showed programming info for the canadian feed which is different than the US when it comes to live game coverage. It would show a game to come on then show some old game from the 90s instead.

The US rights vary from the Canadian broadcast rights thus different NHL coverage of live games. The local cable providers may not have caught on to this yet and be showing inaccurate program info in the listings.

Other than that - gotta say NHL on the Fly is the best way to end the evening ;)

Now if they would just put XM 204 on the web, I'd be set.

I did a little research and the NHL channel is supposed to be free for digital plus customers with Comcast. However they said it won't be available in that area til December :(

Also I may need the HD package.

I agree with you about the commercials!

NHL needs to sell some valuble advertising time on that channel, although who is really going to advertise on the NHL network!

Mentioning "NHL on the Fly" you would have thought that Versus, the so called U.S. hockey channel would have done something similiar. What a joke.

versus is a joke. 99% of the time they are playing something other than hockey. Looks like the station that was OLN stayed as OLN and just changed their name. I wouldn't mind a channel like NHL network where all they are showing is hockey.
