agnespie 11-29-2007, 12:57 AM :(
tonight the dudes said that my digital SLR camera (nikon d70s) is not allowed for games. I was able to use it all last year, and the first Devils home game this year- Oct 27th. they said no cameras with "detachable lenses," haha.
the quality of the pictures do come out great, so apparently some people who have taken photos with these fancy cameras, end up selling them. and I guess the NHL/arena gets angry because they want you to buy their photos for 69 trillion dollars.
so bummed. I mostly use my camera for hockey. I even bought www.shotsaved.com domain name to show my devils photos. I think that expires in like 6 or 7 months though.

that sucks....you might wanna feel out some guys at the gates and try to bring it in as one piece. I know it sounds unethical but the new policy stinks for fans who enjoy ataking pics for theri own collection:shakehead
None Shall Pass 11-29-2007, 01:33 AM I'd put the camera in my pocket and have like my friend put the lens in his. Maybe it'll work? Worth a shot probably.
Chico Resch 11-29-2007, 01:35 AM Good shots!
As a long time Photoog I always brought my SLR to games, I've never brought my DSLR and this new policy sucks!
I must have hundreds of Kodachrome Slides shot at games over the years, maybe I should put them in a book or something.

good idea too, like i said before too there might some guys at some entrances that might not be so vigilant
DevilsFan38 11-29-2007, 07:11 AM Shoot the Devils an email about it and complain. The only thing the Prudential Center policy says about cameras is:
Small, non-professional still cameras may be brought into the Prudential Center. Please note that for certain events cameras may not be allowed into the arena. Video, audio, and professional camera and recording devices are prohibited. Fans may not reproduce any film, digital, video or audio recording for commercial purposes without the express written consent of the Prudential Center.
I don't know what qualifies as small or non-professional, but there's nothing there about no detachable lenses. It's worth a shot.

I believe it was the same policy for CAA...... no?
Mr Bojanglez 11-29-2007, 08:28 AM I saw this lady in front of me with a huge camera, detachable lense digi cam. Soooo, maybe she knows some people? Actually, I think its all a matter of who you run into.
I've noticed that Rock is still relatively unorganized. Some people check your ticket, some don't. Some let you go to your seat while the puck is in action, some don't.
MoonDragn 11-29-2007, 09:23 AM Didn't you say you know some people? Maybe you can get a press pass. Aren't they allowed to take photographs?
Mr.Krinkle 11-29-2007, 09:33 AM That really sucks, try contacting the Devils press dept, you may be able to get a media pass to bring it in.
You have a website, throw a few words up per game and call it a blog. Done, you're a journalist!
agnespie 11-30-2007, 12:37 AM sneaking my SLR in 2 pieces sounds like it can work, but I mostly liked taking pictures during warm-ups up at the glass. I think I'd be more noticeable then. I'm worried someone "important" would see me and that I'd get in trouble.
I don't know if I should try to bring it another night, and see what they say again. first they said they were gonna have to check it in, and that I'd have to pick it up at the end of the night... I gave them the look of death. they let me keep it, but just warned me not to use it.
so bummed. I've seen a few point-and-shoot cameras that work really good. if someone wanted to, they could sell their photos from that kind of camera too. so this isn't exactly fair banning the digital SLR cameras. it should be all or nothing.
Jonathan. 11-30-2007, 12:46 AM Technically, I believe, a D-70 is not considered a non-professional camera. I'm fairly sure that ALL SLRs are considered professional grade.

Oh, I have seen it, I prefer the driving ones myself.
Chico Resch 12-01-2007, 07:52 PM just get a nice canon power shot camera, they take great pictures!
There nice toys, they aren't cameras.
devils892003 12-01-2007, 08:22 PM i have seen some of your videos overtime. I personnally think that you take good pics and videos.
agnespie 12-01-2007, 10:52 PM meh, I've seen canon powershot G's take some good photos. but I don't know how well they'd shoot for hockey games, especially up at the glass. don't want to spend money on another camera and not be 100% satisfied with my photos. I'd rather not bother at all if I can't use a digital SLR at games.
This is one of the policies I do not like when going to games. I was at the opening night and I was afraid to take my Canon 10D DSLR because if they dened the camera there was no place I could leave it since I took the train. So I brought point and shoot digicams which were okay but if I wanted picture quality for my desktop I was stuck with ok pictures. I was also caught at CAA several years ago and thankfully we had the car parked.
I will also try to email the Devils about this because I want to take pictures for my own personal enjoyment. :/
Go Devils!
Emmet Otter 12-02-2007, 10:16 PM Wow! This is totally bulls*t! I was wanting to bring my 30Dw/70-200mm lens to the game.
That is the most stupidest policy ever!!
Can I bring my camera to the Prudential Center?

cmccallum 12-03-2007, 02:04 AM yeah as an avid photographer this is bummed they are coming down on people for just doing two things they love at once watching hockey and taking pictures.
TB Sheets 12-03-2007, 09:52 AM I'm going to take a wild-*** guess that the reason why they don't want professional camera equipment is because of licensing reasons. With a professional-quality camera you can take photos of players in uniform during games that could be used for profit, and that would probably violate the NHL licensing policies.
Rebels24 12-03-2007, 10:55 AM In a changing society (as I am sure some official would start with) they also have to worry about security concerns. A lot of malls wont even allow you to take pictures/video in the mall anymore if for that very reason. Most of these security companies have been in close contact with law enforcement at these big events so they can begin to think outside the box.
So I think it is more than likely a combination of a few things. I havn't been to a Jet/Giant game this season but add the issue of "women being exploited and people taping it" at the meadowlands and I am sure they have cracked down on it there a bit as well.
