He never left. He's been doing that for the Devils the past two years.

Well, something changed. Why would they mention it in the paper? Wasn't he trying to find a head coaching job? Anyway, always good to have him in the fold as he's a winner. Hope he stays healthy.

It's all in Lou's master plan...Lou retires (not for awhile yet) Sutts takes his spot and burns goes back behind the bench.

He's been mentioned pretty much every trip to Tampa...there was an article about him by Chere in the Star-Ledger yesterday. http://www.nj.com/mets/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/119588281964260.xml&coll=1. He remains with the Devils, thankful for the help he got from Lou Lamoriello.

"Lou handed me the whole southeast to scout. And I get to hit a lot of golf balls while I'm doing it. Not a bad life," Burns said.

He was also asked about the Toronto job rumours:ATLANTA -- Pat Burns, still doing well in his long battle with cancer and happily employed as a Devils scout in Florida, brushed aside rumors out of Toronto that the Maple Leafs were going to fire Paul Maurice and bring him back as coach.

"Nobody's talked to me about it. And they couldn't, anyway. That would be tampering," Burns told the Toronto Star. "They'd need to get permission from Lou. As far as I know, nobody's asked."

He never left the organization, he was just reassigned once he was healthy enough to do scouting.

If Lou retires and Conte doesn't get at least serious consideration for the position, I would be pissed. Conte deserves almost as much credit as Lou does for the team's past successes. And if Conte doesn't get the job, I have a feeling that there may be another Lamoreillo in the running.

I don't Conte has any interest in becoming the GM and is happy with his position. I'm sure other teams have expressed interest in hireing him as their GM but he hasn't left.

I've heard that the Devils pay Conte a GM's salary.
