None Shall Pass 11-01-2007, 12:31 PM What. A. Nasty. Line.
Seriously, just take a moment to take it in.
Only downside is that Zubrus is making more than Pando and Madden combined, but if they keep putting up like this, and wrecking house on the D, I'm not complaining.
TheDevilMadeMe 11-01-2007, 12:48 PM I called this line as a good idea before the season started. ;) First time for everything, right? Zubrus's board work and big body just seems to be the perfect compliment to Madden and Pandolfo.
Now if we can only get another center to play on the top 2 lines...
MoonDragn 11-01-2007, 12:52 PM Pelley is looking pretty good so far, I think he should center Elias instead of Brylin.
Zajac is doing fine as center with Parise.

I agree
Keep it together.
pscoln1 11-01-2007, 01:13 PM Sutter better keep this line together! Its a beautiful LINE!! And as much as i love madden and pando, GIVE ZUBRUS LOTS OF CREDIT FOR THAT GORGEOUS PASS FROM BEHIND THE NET WHICH HIT MADDEN IN STRIDE TO SCORE THE FIRST GOAL. THAT WAS NASTY!
I think that goal gave us confidence to go on our tear to score 6 goals. Without that goal we may have been shut out again!
JRZ DVLS 11-01-2007, 01:29 PM I think Zubrus is better suited at wing, and I love the Intensity Madden and Pando Bring.
At the beginning of the game I was really keeping an Eye on Zubrus to see how he would work with these guys. He is rather slow and was circling a lot, but seemed a more comfortable on the wing. And MAdden and Pando look like kids in a candy store just set loose.
I flipped to the TSN Broadcast in the 2nd intermission to just see what they had to say. And I think Mckenzie said that Madden and Pando have got to play more of a defensive role for NJ to be successful. I started laughing and said to my wife, Is he watching the same game we are????
We all know that Sutter was still matchng them vs the MVP line but not to the point where they had to be there every shift. The best stats from last night---->>>>
D. Boyle 20:25 0 0 -3 2 0
V. Lecavalier 20:03 1 0 -3 2 0
M. St. Louis 23:56 0 1 -2 0 0
V. Prospal 16:37 0 0 -3 1 0
B. Lukowich 13:41 0 0 -3 0 0
Guess what line they were up against all night???????
J. Madden 16:35 1 3 +4 2 0
J. Pandolfo 17:27 3 1 +4 6 0
D. Zubrus 18:01 0 2 +3 0 0
P. Martin 24:59 0 1 +3 0 0
ona a side note
O. Malmivaara 10:05 0 0 +2 0 0 ---Nice to see this from a big man!!!
MoonDragn 11-01-2007, 01:32 PM Brookbank's fight really sparked the team's energy too I think. Tortorelli ended up splitting up st. louis and Lecavalier after a while and I think thats why tampa looked even worse in the 3rd.
It was pretty funny towards the end of the 3rd period. It looked like they were just playing keepaway.

Madden makes 3 million a year, Zubrus makes 3.4 a year.
jkrdevil 11-01-2007, 01:37 PM So far (and it's only 1 game) I like this line. It gives us a line of 3 resposible fowards who we can matchup against the other teams top line and shut down (and despite what Sutter has said to the media he has used Madden and Pandolfo all season in this role). However the addition of Zubrus as well as the slight system change gives the more of an offensive edge where they can score and doesn't hurt the Devils when they play the line match game. If you look at when the Devils have been at the top of their game in the past they have had a "checking line" that could put the puck in the net and burn the other teams first line.
Hopefully this keeps up. However again it's only been 1 game.
JRZ DVLS 11-01-2007, 01:46 PM John Madden and Jay Pandolfo an Offensive Power!!!!!!
The NHL will Never Allow it, it goes against everything that is good in Hockey....Oh yeah, they are boring too! The Best Checking line can't also be be one of the best offensively, can it?
Mose Schrute 11-01-2007, 01:46 PM Like jkrdevil said, it's only 1 game. I'm glad they exploded like they did, but I'm not ready to annoint them a "nasty" line.
I fhtis team wants to win consistently, they're going to need scoring from guys like Elias, Gionta, and Parise on a more consistent basis.
dzanimal16 11-01-2007, 01:47 PM anyone else like asham on that line over clarkson though????
MissionHockey 11-01-2007, 01:49 PM anyone else like asham on that line over clarkson though????
I did, Asham has a little bit of Jamie Langenbrunner if you ask me. I hope he gets another shot with Elias because he's got a decent enough shot to put a few in the back of the net.
Devils9789 11-01-2007, 01:54 PM +1 with everyone

That line is sick nasty and Sutter better keep all of the lines together! they were all good lastnight
MissionHockey 11-01-2007, 01:55 PM Speaking of this line, it seems like they are yet again up against the other team's top lines. It seems like Sutter is slowly going back to what worked in the past.
TB Sheets 11-01-2007, 01:58 PM What's funny is that, while P-M-Z got four goals last night, I think that Parise was the most dominant player on the ice. He controlled play every single time he was on the ice last night. I'm glad he got a goal out of it.
And so far I'd say keep the P-M-Z line together and see what happens.
Game Breaker 11-01-2007, 02:00 PM Let Elias center Asham and Langenbrunner and see what happens...after all, seems like nothing is working for Elias at this point and Asham has done great everywhere.
JimEIV 11-01-2007, 02:07 PM Its not really just one game....
Madden and Pandolfo have been the only bright spots all season long
John Madden C 11 5 5 10 1 6
Jay Pandolfo LW 11 6 3 9 4 6
And Zubrus just went along for the ride last night.

Zubrus had a beautiful pass for Madden's goal. It was his hard work that set up the opening tally, Madden got a little lucky since his shot was going for Holmqvist's chest but it hit Boyle first and went into the net. The second I would agree was more Madden and Pandolfo than Zubrus setting it up.
I would also argue that Parise has been tremendous even if the points aren't coming consistently.

For a scoring line I'd say their salaries are all very fair ;)

Hahaha touche. I didn't look up salaries btw to the dude who corrected me.
AfroThunder396 11-01-2007, 06:24 PM "I'm a hockey player," Zubrus said. "I'm told where to play and I'll be ready for every game whatever that role is."
I haven't seen an interview that I haven't liked from this guy.
Easton 11-01-2007, 07:54 PM I was hoping when they announced the goals the last game that once they announced Zubrus's name everyone would go, "Zuuuuuuuuuuuu!" :yo:
Remember that for the next game you guys go to. :)

Actually, it was Zubrus who hit Madden with the breakout pass (which was a very nice pass)

He said himself it was more of a clear and Madden caught up to it.
DevilFisch 11-01-2007, 08:58 PM Let Elias center Asham and Langenbrunner and see what happens...after all, seems like nothing is working for Elias at this point and Asham has done great everywhere.
1) Langenbrunner isn't back yet.
2) Asham tipped in Elias' shot for a goal. I wouldn't say nothing is working for Elias at this point.
3) I think people need to give Zubrus a lot more credit. He played very well and yet I kept hearing "DO SOMETHING ZUBRUS!" Goodness gracious, he did well. He's not a waste and I hope tonight spurs him for improved performances.
sportmaniac 11-01-2007, 09:07 PM i never would think these 3 guys were capable of controling a game

Think of Zubrus this way. He makes less than half of what Scott Gomez does, and so far has twice as many points.;)

I wonder what the conversations between the Pals Pando and Gomez are
Pandolfo $836K 6g 3A 9pts +4
Gome$ $10 mil 2g 2A 4pts -2
As of Nov 2

If I were Jay I'd ask how he likes the trap style of play in NY compared to the offensive system they have in NJ!!! :biglaugh:
All those 'analysts' who said Gomez would benefit by getting out of the defensive minded Devils and going to a more free-wheeling team... :sarcasm:
MoonDragn 11-02-2007, 11:04 AM From what I have read, Jay and Gomez rarely talk about hockey. They discuss the redsox or something else.

Yeah, that assist he got last night was clutch!

Lundqvist is hot right now. Lets hope he cools down by the time we play him Saturday. Lets hope we ride on this high scoring trend and beat the rangers 7-1!

How are we gonna beat the trap!? :scared:
DevilDog 11-02-2007, 11:40 AM I've said it before and I'll say it again. I LOVE that Madden and Pando, the 2 'odd men out' in the new offensive system are the ones it's benefitted the most.
Turns out these guys can actually play hockey. ;)
