figures I missed it because I left. I thought Vish got it, but i guess Pando tapped it. I promised I'd throw my hat if he did it. Was a bit disappointed I couldn't.

Also if anyone likes the band Sevendust, their drummer was sitting in front of me with some other band. They seemed to care more about Tampa though.

nah.

He actually did play well tonight. But he needs to put the puck in the net already.

Props to Jay Pandolfo the Scoring Machine.

Pando had a HUGE game tonight!
He was active in the offensive zone, and kept TB in check, all at the same time.
I liked the line combos I saw tonight, Pando-Madden-Zubrus-Elias together,
Parise-Zajac-Gio together most of the night.

Pando is the heart of the Devils, and don't anybody forget it!

Someone on these boards, in attacking our new style and pining for the trap, actually made a comment to me that if it wasn't for the trap do you think Jay Pandolfo would still be playing in the NHL. I think it's safe to say the answer is a resounding yes. Him and Madden are still playing smart D but are flying with the offensive freedom they now have. Pando got pigeon holed into one role but to play the solid defense he does, you need to have offensive smarts to read the play, and he is proving it. :yo:

I think the best part of the hat trick was none of them were garbage goals.

Goal the first: Beauty hustle to create that 2 on 1 by both guys and he got his stick down and put it over Lundqvist beautifully

Goal the second: Madden races to the net, Pando snipes top shelf glove side right in the pocket

Goal the third: Vish with the shot, and Pando with the gorgeous deflection

The man is a sniper.

Too bad they waited so long to make the scoring change, on the TV's above our section it was pretty clear he got it, I would've tossed my hat down but play was just about ready to start.

When they did make the change after the game and the 3 stars were announced, some dude did run down and toss his hat on the ice.

Silverdust sucks, and the fact that he likes Tampa just makes it worse.

Pandolfo was huge last night! But how ironic is it that one of our lowest scorers on the team is our man with the highest number of goals?

Another monster night for the mandolfo!

As soon as they showed the first replay I knew he had the hat trick and was so mad Jay wouldn't speak up about it - but he probably a) didn't want to risk it being a high-stick no goal call upon review... and b) would never claim a goal awarded to someone else...

BUT HOW COOL would it have been to see the ice littered with hats in the new barn!!!!

Doc and Chico showed the replay again with his touch of it circled a few minutes later in the broadcast, but Chico chimed in - Jay would never speak up about it anyways... it's just the kind of unselfish guy he is.

Congrats to that line - and Zubrus?!?! When I heard that line announced I thought bad things but man... they clicked! :handclap:

Was Lou's secret weapon. The best way to keep good players on your team is to keep their numbers down and still win games. The system made our players look mediocre to medium when in fact even our 3rd line were as good as some team's first lines. This way Lou can get away with paying them low salaries.

Now that Sutter is here with his new system I'm not sure he can hide these great players anymore. But then now our top line is a shadow of their former self so I guess it evens out.

He did! I'm 100% sure as they showed a close-up (zoomed) replay on the jumbotron after the 3 stars were announced and it was obvious from the close-up view. It ticked off his stick and headed south on goal. I'm not sure it wasnt a high stick though, but I'm sure no Devil fans complained!

Watched the replay about 5 times on TV. To me, it didn't look like he tipped it, but the stick was below the crossbar. Either way I'm glad he got it because he certainly earned it.

I wouldn't say they were bottled up, they both played a great game as defensive fowards, Pando was always up for the Selke....

It makes perfect sense that our best checking forwards are excelling under Sutter though. They know how to play aggressively, force turnovers, and more importantly capitalize on them. As Sutter said a few games ago, when you have the puck more , you score more. These two are definitely the epitome of that mentality, hopefully their play will rub off on the rest of the team. It's seemed to be working on Zubrus so far.

Next thing they need to do though is teach the other guys how to forecheck without taking penalties - Gio I'm looking at you!

Gio's penalties are resulting from pure frustration with not being a 48 goal man anymore, and that's understandable, but he's gotta cool off that hot head of his and stop taking penalties.

Gio's problem is that he is THE most predicable Devil we have. He does the same old rush up the wing and take a flubby wrist shot from 30 feet out every time. He has zero sense of creativity with the puck.

I DVR'd it and replayed at 1/15th speed and he got it. He not only altered the direction, but also the height (which is why I was worried they'd review it and call high stick - no goal)... it was going high left off net and he tipped it ever so slighty catching the heel of his stick down and to the right.... down - and to the right.

...down - and to the right. [bad JFK humor]

;)

If you replay it again and once the camera stops panning from the boards take about 5 frames and draw a line of the puck path before Jay puts his stick up - you'll see he changed the path about 5 degrees of angle. I re-watched this because I was convinced he got the hat trick and was upset that nobody caught it. I was glad to hear on the drive in this morning that indeed they did catch it after the game. :handclap:

Yeah that probably is part of it, but he gets caught a lot trying to be aggressive. As for his puck handling, yeah he's predictable, but when he's on he's got a laser. His best asset though is his nose for the net, he's always on the doorstep waiting for that loose puck or deflection, he's predictable there only in the sense that he'll be near the net.

The magic spit...

I appreciate Jay not just for his great game tonight but for toiling night in, night out and being a great team player. He's been a key player for this team for many years and hasn't always gotten the credit he deserves. I just hope that he stays we re-sign him...his connections to the Rangers are frightening. Roomed with Gomez, teammate with Drury at BU...verrry scaaary.

I'm not expecting 40 goals, or 30, or even 20. 20 goals would be nice, 15 goals would be adequate. Keep playing that awesome defensive game Jay, be a big plus and I'll be happy.

I didn't even say anything to him to begin with. Aside from maybe a song on their first CD which I heard like 10 years ago, the band pretty much sucks.

my thoughts precisely.

I only added Madden because he did assist on (I believe) every single goal Jay scored so he was due his equal honorable mention.

But Jay Pandolfo stole the show, he undoubtedly could have put in 4 last night.

I think this also begs the question: 7 D-men + these lines = finally it for now?

Maybe last night was just part of Tampa's road woes, but I think we have ourselves a winner for the time being.
