who are the nets fans out there?
there better not be any knicks/devils fans:shakehead
BenedictGomez 10-30-2007, 10:21 PM The Nets still play basketball?
zp1109 10-30-2007, 10:27 PM I'm a Devils and Nets fan :)
Oh, did I mention, I'm a Yankee fan too... ;) Glad we chose Girardi to manage
DevilsFan38 10-30-2007, 10:52 PM You know, I used to care about the Nets, before they decided to move to Brooklyn. Now I still like Jason Kidd and hope they do well, but I don't even bother to check the scores. If I hear that they won a game, great.
Devilsfanatic 10-30-2007, 11:01 PM **** THE NETS!!! GO RAPTORS GO!!!! WOOOOO
Yeah, I'm a Raptors fan :D
Gunnar Stahl 30 10-30-2007, 11:03 PM **** THE NETS!!! GO RAPTORS GO!!!! WOOOOO

yea they will finish just ahead of teh sixers in the atlantic
Devilsfanatic 10-30-2007, 11:07 PM yea they will finish just ahead of teh sixers in the atlantic
Really? Considering we have one of the deepest benches in the entire NBA, and probably the best back up point guard in the league too.......that's a load of ********. Raptors are going to be division champions again this year. Celts get injured and they're ****ed considering they traded their entire team just to get KG. The Nets lick donkey balls this year, and the Knicks well.........they're the Knicks, all bark, no bite.
slackerracker 10-30-2007, 11:10 PM i'll be a Net fan for about 2 more season until the move to Brooklyn happens. I could actually see the nets this year winning the Division. While the Celtics have the big 3 after that it's alittle not so clear. Nets have a good starting lineup and a very good bench. With Kristic back he provides that scoring center than can run with the team. It still pains me to see Collins in there and i think with Magloire in his place it would make our starting lineup even more solid and then just Dump Collins he doesn't do much anyway. And Devilsfanatic remember last year the Nets OWN the Raptors =) just a bit of fighting words until the season starts.
ILikeItVeryMuch 10-30-2007, 11:20 PM I used to care about the Nets until the move talks, but I have never been a big NBA fan anyway.

Same here.
devsfan8 10-30-2007, 11:28 PM I have a feeling when all said and done the Nets are going to end up in Newark. A brand new state of the art facility in the state they currently play in and Vanderbeek said if they were ever interested they are welcome (more revenue for the Devils).
I do not thin Brooklyn will ever allow an Arena to be built there for the Nets.
Either Long Island or Newark and I am thinking they will end up at The Rock after all said and done.
just my gut.

The NBA's popularity is plummeting faster than Britney Spears' career.
frankiedue 10-30-2007, 11:29 PM I'm a nets fan and am still hoping the Brooklyn thing falls through somehow.
As far as predictions go, if everyone stays healthy, kristic hasn't lost his explosiveness from microfracture surgery, and the young guys keep improving, they should at least make it to the conference finals. I don't think they've ever had this much depth on the bench. Jason Kidd feels that this team is more talented than the ones that went to the finals.

I think if Brooklyn falls through they get sold and will be moved out of the area (like KC). I just don't see the Rock being an attractive option for a potential new owner. Sure it's state of the art however the new Nets owner will not have control of the master lease (the Devils obviously have that). The Nets would essentially would be in the same situation they are in at the Meadowlands now and what the Devils were in at the Meadowlands, that is drawing arena revenue from essentially only tickets sales and partial concession sales. Further more I suspect that the NBA would rather have the team move out of NJ if they can't have their own arena which they would control. I think the Nets gone from New Jersey one way or another, I don't see them moving to Newark.

Pretty much the same with me. Was a big Nets fan as a kid, even going to games in Piscataway, NJ, when our old hockey arena wasn't even a gleam in Brendan Burne's eyes.
But I am glad Nenad is back healthy and they got a couple of decent new big men. Should be a much stronger team than last year. Won 4 Nets tix in a charity auction, so I am going to at least ONE game this season at the swamp. (Will wear my Izod.)
slackerracker 10-31-2007, 12:39 PM I knew us fans were screwed when that guy bought the team. Especially when i heard he's done a similar thing before where he buys a sports team make a friggan new building then just sits and makes money off the new building. I hope they don't leave the state and if they do idk what team i will root for.
on the other topic Lawrence Frank for Coach of the YEar!!!
Jiri Bicek 10-31-2007, 12:41 PM I'm a big Net fan but can't stand to watch any other basketball game at all.. Try to watch the Finals and the playoffs...So boring unless it's close towards the end...
Nets have a good shot this year.. I think they beat themseleves last year against Cleveland.. Nenad is back, i like Magloire, and Sean Williams is a freak... He can bring that K-mart athletic ability that we miss so much

Clippers 91, Nets 82
Nets Dangle $10 Ticket Lure, but Fans Don’t Bite
By DAVE CALDWELL
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Four young men formed a line at the turnstiles inside the Izod Center about two hours before the Nets’ game Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Clippers.
They were wearing red baseball caps sporting the Clippers’ logo and had come to collect autographs, shake hands and maybe strike up a conversation with a Clippers player or two.
But they really did not need to hurry. When the game started, fewer than half the seats in the 19,990-seat arena appeared to be filled. The official attendance for the Nets’ 91-82 loss was later announced at 13,433.
Even though the Nets offered a $10 ticket special, the crowd was one of the smallest of the season for a team that was booed as the 8-12 Clippers pulled away. Through 13 home games, the Nets (9-13) are averaging 1,636 fewer fans than last season.
The Izod Center, formerly Continental Arena, has brighter signage outside and more hospitality suites inside. But it is now virtually enveloped by the Xanadu complex that is under construction, which makes getting to a game challenging and confusing.
On a cold, wet Tuesday night, the area around the arena seemed as bleak as ever. The bare steel frames of Xanadu were lit by large halogen lights, making the complex look like an oil refinery. Even the additions inside, two fans said, feel cosmetic.
“It really hasn’t changed here, to be honest,” said Matthew Mound, a Nets fan from Oxford, N.J., who was one of the four fans at the turnstiles.
“Some of the employees still treat you with the same ‘What do you want?’ expression,” added Kris Maguire of Nazareth, Pa.
The Nets opened Tuesday ranked 22nd among 30 teams in home attendance. And this is a team with drawing power outside the Meadowlands. With the stars Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter, the Nets are ranked second in the N.B.A. in road attendance, behind only the Boston Celtics.
Brett Yormark, the president and chief executive of Nets Sports and Entertainment, said before the game that he was confident more fans would come to the Izod Center after the holidays, because they usually do.
“When it’s all said and done at the end of the year, we’ll show an increase in attendance,” he said.
The team’s planned move to an 18,000-seat arena in Brooklyn in either the 2009-10 or the 2010-11 season has not been a factor, he said. (Construction has started on temporary rail yards around the new arena, which will be called the Barclays Center.)
“The Brooklyn dynamic, if anything, is creating a lot of positive interest,” Yormark said.
What has not helped is that the Nets have struggled at home, losing 9 of 13 games, including 8 of their last 9. They are 5-4 on the road, and Coach Lawrence Frank was still searching for an explanation for the contrast in records.
“Million-dollar question,” Frank said Tuesday. “I don’t have an answer.”
Later, Frank said, “Just part of being a good team is protecting your home court, and we haven’t done that.”
Jason Collins, the team’s starting center, said the Nets play better defensively on the road because they have less margin for error. He said playing in front of thousands of empty magenta-colored seats at the Izod Center has not had an effect.
“Those who come here have great expectations,” he said. “We need to do a better job for them.”
After the game, Kidd said: “We’re trying. The ball’s on the rim, and it’s not going in.”
Jefferson said he has been through this before. During his first two years with the Nets, the team failed to average 14,000 fans at Continental Arena — but still made it to the N.B.A. finals in both seasons.
“Name changes and construction have nothing to do with how we’re playing these games,” he said.
Those who showed up Tuesday were given inflatable plastic sticks to clap together, whipping up a small din. But another home game wriggled away as the Nets made only 5 of 25 fourth-quarter shots, sending many fans home early — and angry.
“The team’s play hasn’t been helping any,” said Maguire, one of the early-arriving autograph collectors. “But they want to make it a fan friendly atmosphere, and I think it’s gotten worse.”
MoonDragn 12-12-2007, 04:01 PM I hate basketball, I dispise football, I'm bored by watching baseball and golf games on tv make me snore. So no, I am not a fan of the nets.
Jiri Bicek 12-12-2007, 04:04 PM I don't even think i'd go see a game if they gave me free tickets.. .Which someone on this board found a code for to one of the games...Place has such a boring feel to it..This coming from a nets fan..
DevsOwnYou 12-12-2007, 04:20 PM I have turned down free Nets tix to about 5 games already this season.
The NBA is a poor product with little credibility, the game has become the most boring in pro sports. They are drawing flies at CAA this season, don't believe their announced attendances. 13k means about 6k at CAA for Nets games. And the people there are not really die hards too.
The NBA is a joke, led by the Knicks who are clowns.
fortheloveof666 12-12-2007, 04:45 PM Wow, who would have thought the bull **** in Basketball would stink way worse than it does in hockey?
Basketball is a lame ass sport with very little excitement, if it's proof of anything, it's that scoring hundreds of points a game isn't really exciting, giving players free shots for bumping into each other isn't really necessary, and well...it's generally just boring.
I'd actually go as far as saying it's more boring than a baseball game and when you consider it takes about 35 seconds or more between pitches sometimes, that's a pretty damn boring experience.
ILikeItVeryMuch 12-13-2007, 12:22 AM I love how they use the Xanadu and construction line when the Nets dont draw at the Meadowlands, but when we use it for the Devils its "excuses excuses".

Well, Atlantic Yards now won't be ready until the 2010-2011 season. Which probably means 2011-2012, of course with the "if...., ever." added afterwards.
I wonder how much longer they can go on with this. It's only going to get worse.
It's not even like they can move to the Rock, that's not going to make it any better. They've offended their fan base (whatever that might be) past the point of no return. I don't think if Atlantic Yards failed, they can sell it to Vanderbeek or another NJ interest. It's already ruined.
Their PR guy is the man, though, the king of the kool-aid drinkers. :) "They're excited about the move to Brooklyn." Yep, and exactly how is their NJ fanbase going to go to an arena in Brooklyn? INACCESSIBLE!
ILikeItVeryMuch 12-13-2007, 01:14 AM I used to partially enjoy the NBA, but ESPN has injected such articfical "excitement" into the game and has insulted the NHL so much that I wish the NBA nothing but horrible failure. Wow, what a Top 10 Sportscenter, 8 of the same ****ing dunks I have seen 100 times.
Clarkson Falls Down 12-13-2007, 01:30 AM It sucks being a Nets fan, and many NBA fans for that matter, because you know that you're team has a 0% chance of winning an NBA title. You could probably on say that 5 or 6 teams have a legitimate shot at winning a title. Right now in the NHL its at least double that, maybe triple.
Darius Dangleaitis 12-13-2007, 02:08 AM The only NBA games I will watch are either Cavs games for obvious reasons, or the occasional Celts game cause everyone here at UNH loves them.
Do you guys think the Devils or Nets are more popular in Jersey? I'm a little biased cause I only ever talk hockey with people...just curious to hear everyone's thoughts.

I'm not sure. But from my unbiased standpoint, I'd probably say Devils. I go to Rutgers and I have seen only ONE kid this whole semester wearing Nets gear. I've probably seen about 50 kids wearing Devils gear, and I have 5 friends who are Devils fans. To be honest, I think even people in my age demographic, 17-21, don't like pro basketball as much any more. But I think that people still like to play basketball over hockey.

Interesting. When I went to Rutgers back in the late 80s, it was mostly nets and giants gear.
Hardly ever saw devils gear back then.
Well thats not true, wasn't Nets gear, most basketball fans back then were rooting for teams other than the Nets. You saw alot of Bulls and Celtics jerseys.

Devils by a landslide, most people in Nets gear are wearing it for style not because they are a fan of the team.
I see a lot of people in Devils gear on themselves or on the cars.

I think it's Devils by a large margin.... Most Nets "fans" with jerseys usually like the player and not the team and wear it for style (like DOY said).. I don't see much Nets gear around or even at games..
I seem to see Devils jerseys/gear all over and think we do well with jersey support at the arena too.. I see Devils flags and bumper stickers while driving around too but can't recall any Nets stuff..
Monday i was in Bridgeport and saw 3 Devils jerseys and 2 guys with Devils hats.. Wasn't even a hockey game

Yeah I'd say its the Devils...all throughout high school, etc I found maybe two kids that cared about the Nets, whereas people were always excited when the Devils were in the playoffs and whatnot.
Jiri Bicek 12-15-2007, 02:40 PM After going to last nights game the Devils win this far and away without competition.. Awful showing.. Almost entire upper level sections were empty on a Friday night with Lebron.. I didn't see much Nets gear at the game at all and the atmosphere is non existent..
BTW- missed my shot and wouldn't let me wear my Devils jersey.. Made me wear a Foxwoods sweater:rant:
